  1. Hi Mark. Surely, the management at Daystate must be getting the feedback from these posts and others on air gun forums saying the same sorts of complaints. But then, they are probably in an outward state of denial. But sales must be affected surely? But talk about a good ship spoilt for a hap'eth of tar! :hmm:
  2. All I can add to this thread, is my experience of Carl and my Regal. He may not be the most communicative fellow around, but, he's turned my Regal into a beautiful gun and a keeper. I will never part with such a beautiful looking, superbly accurate hunting tool as I now have with this rifle. If Daystate had only built the Regal as well as this is now, with a proper regulator like this, the Regal would easily be a world class air rifle to be proud of by a country mile. As it was before, I nearly (honestly) wrapped the bloody thing round a fence post, it was so ridiculously underpowere
  3. I headshoot a pheasant now and again with my FAC HW80 .22. 23 ft/lbs does a humane job. I have permission from my farmer to take the odd one for the pot now and again in exchange for the numbers of rabbits I knock down but, I don't make a habbit of it. Pheasants are usually bread for the guns of a paying syndicate and it's not really fair to go shooting their sport. The shotgun lads leave the rabbits and woodpigeon alone for me to shoot so, I respect their sport in return and leave it be. If what you have are wild, roaming birds and no Gamekeeper laying claim to them anymore, you
  4. All my guns are for keeps. I can't just settle on one and one only.
  5. With grouping this excellent standard Gary, seems to me that, you could confidently take long range shots out to 50 yards and over, with no real worries
  6. A bit of work and a nice shot on one of these marauding buggers! Perfect JJM!
  7. Great sport you've bagged here Mark. And what a lovely looking dog you have!
  8. I'm seeing Mixy on one of my permissions here where, last seasons before, the rabbits were in beautiful, healthy condition. It's a sad sight to see a once fine and healthy animal reduced to a blind, bedraggled looking rag, stumbling about for food. I hate cruelty to any living thing. I don't care if it's vermin. A humane shot to the head is the best thing for these creatures.
  9. It's great to see what craftsmanship chaps bring to this site, with posts like this. Well done nath. I'm not a fan of synthetic stocks or plain black but, this looks really well done by you. Spanish arms giant Gamo are building BSA rifles now and their cheap, corner-cut workmanship is, alas, a poor reflection on BSA nowadays, for what used to be a fine quality English gunmaker. I like the look of that Hornet stock too. In a really nicely finished and oiled beech it would look a beautiful gunstock for an air rifle. I like the chequering too. Rather like the Weihrauch HW97K Bavarian sporter
  10. Ahhh Good on you Badgerdaddy. I'm sorry for not responding sooner to your query, I'm really busy at work right now. But, you'll not regret your custom with Carl when you get your Regal back from him. He really is a thoroughly decent chap who really knows his stuff about PCPs and how they tick! All the best for your shooting with your new, vastly improved rifle. Simon
  11. Bigmac97KT has recently given my HW80 .22 a facelift with a complete refurb of the stock. He's done an incredible job and added an adjustable buttpad which has totally transformed my beloved '80 in both looks and handling. I went out with it tonight on one of my permissions I've not been able to visit for a few weeks and the rifle didn't miss a beat. 14 rabbits, 6 woodpigeons from the fields and 4 ferrals out of the barns at the end of the session. It's nice to have other rifles in my collection. But none of them can replace this fabulous German classic. Would I have another? Abso
  12. How did your neighbour know the rifle was illegally powerful? Surely the Police would ask this of him/her/them for their evidences of this?
  13. Hi there Mitch. If you really want a Regal with performance to match, there is no other way to do it. I can't recommend Carl highly enough. He's done a marvellous job of mine. I stuck with my Regal because I knew this rifle had amazing potential. Even though, almost at the end, I nearly wrapped the b*****d thing round a fence post in utter frustration of how utterly weak and flimsy-powered the thing was. For a modest sum extra it has been well worth the headaches. I'm seriously thinking of writing a letter to Tony Belas asking for an explanation why a fine and beautiful looking ri
  14. Helen has some dinner waiting for you then Jimmy. Roast Chicken for sunday dinner today! I don't know yet what the full shot count is Mitch but, it's got to be a whole lot better than the 50-odd the the rifle could only produce at its sweet spot before. You've all said exactly what I have felt since I bought this rifl, in the belief I was getting a truly beautiful hunting air weapon of performance. And it has turned outto be the biggest let-down disappointment in all my years of shooting air rifles. Cheap Hatstands perform better than this! What made me persist with this rifle was th
  15. FINALLY.... Carl has my .177 Regal ready.... and on Thursday I took the three-hour drive to Telford in the pouring rain to his place to pick it up. A nice cuppa and a long chat about what he's made, fitted, tuned and generally done to it and a proper test session on his benches has produced a stunning transformation with this rifle. And I mean the word STUNNING! I cannot possibly regard this as a Daystate rifle anymore. Without getting into technical stuff I know sod all about anyway, he's taken the Harper valve out and binned it. And replaced it with an engine worthy of the rifles' be
  16. The other night I was out shooting with my FAC HW80 .22. I hit a rabbit clean through the head at 30 yards and the pellet went on to thump against a metal barn wall about yards further on. Had that been a .22 rimfire round it would have certainly gone into the barn wall. Perhaps through it and damaged a vehicle inside. Or worse and killed someone. Had anyone been around in the way, the pellet would have hurt them. The bullet could have killed them. A sub-12 ft/lb .22 pellet would have remained inside the rabbits head and imparted massive lethal expansion and shock. Killing it instantl
  17. I think some people, especially inexperienced shooters, are a little unsure of what they are doing and just need a little like-for-like guidance as to how other lads set their rifles up David. It's a lot easier for those of us who've been doing this for so long it's just a matter of instinct as to how to set up our scopes for the kind of shooting we are setting out to undertake.
  18. My HW80 ..22 has made a really sweet transition to FAC level performance at 23.4 Ft/lbs and I zero this rifle and my sub 12 ft/lb HW77 .22 at 35 Metres range. All I need to do is a bit of hold under at short ranges and dead on at 30 to 50 metres. FAC .22 gets the pellet quicker and hit harder to the rabbits heads at sensible ranges. It is NOT about any increased range distances. But the velocity at which the pellet covers the zero ranges and hit home before the rabbit has a chance to react fast and escape, as can happen to the best shot with a sub-12 .22 rifle. Field craft, good marksm
  19. 35 metres. ALways. Anything nearer just needs a little hold under.
  20. The way things are going with work David, you might be right there! Haven't been out much at all this summer, what with the poor weather as well as the time out I can't get away with. Still, I'll be down to pick it up by next week and we'll see what he's done with it for sure. Missing my pal Bigmac too. I want him down here for a session on the rabbits on my perms with me, when we can sort it. All the best. Simon
  21. FINALLY! Had word back from Carl, my Regal will be finished today. So emailed him to sort out when convenient to come down to pick it up and pay him! I guess there will be a wait for that response! Simon
  22. Agh! Pointed pellets! Apart from issues of dieselling lubes in the rifle, you won't group your shots at all with those pointed things. You need a domed, "Diablo" pellet. For an HW97K, whatever the calibre, try... AIR ARMS FIELD. JSBs H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY. Infact any top quality pellet is worth a go. And watch the headsize of each pellet brand you are trying. If you get a decent group with a 4.52/.177 or 5.52/.22 you might get much tighter groups with 4.51mm or 5.51. My .177 HW97K groups beautifully with H&N Field Target Trophy in the 4.50mm headsize. Good luc
  23. Not at all Jon but thanks for letting me know what you know. I have the feeling that he's OCD about his standards, having seen his workshop and how he obsesses over every little detail and facet of the rifle. He'll tell you what every ounce of FPE is doing to the pellet and why the Harper Valve system is not good and God knows what hundreds of things else. That's good. But communications with his customers as to progress with an expensive rifle is a facet of business life he has to accept as a courtesy and a benchmark standard to his customers. I'm not surprised he's getting negative
