You're both just bloody showing off now LOL!! Actually I'm impressed by the fact that you seem to just focus on getting the elevation solution right. If I was to attempt this with a 12ft/lb spring rifle like my HW77 or TX200 .22 rifles, I'm certain I'd need a bit of hold-off to right of the target too. Or get the triggers really micro-fine set to smooth out left-hand pressure bias. Top shooting guys however you set your rifles up! :thumbs ATB Simon

Firearms control (Motion) Mr Tobias Ellwood
pianoman replied to davyt63's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thanks for posting this Davy. Anything I or anyone else can say here is simply preaching to the converted. But I did note that the thrust of Government policy study-thinking is biased more towards crimes committed with illegally held, unlicenced firearms. The outcome of such study will produce nothing. Villains will always be villains and they will always reach for illegally-sourced, unlicenced firearms, no matter how much the Government bans and restricts the rest of us. Personally, it's high time the Justice system was overhauled and started being the deterrant it's supposed to be. If s -

Spring air rifle shooting.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Andy, that's so kind of you to say mate. Thanks buddy . Hey Tony mate, that's so kind of you to take the trouble to write your generous responses. Thanks for this. My mate Nigel at Wighill Park Guns really rates these SMK rifles and he's got a shop full of mega-money Daystates, Air Arms and God knows what. So I tried one off the shelf, a .177 break-barrel rifle that looked a lot like a Weihrauch 95 with a 3-9X40 Hawke scope bolted on. After a while warming-up and zeroing, I hit a near one-hole group on the 10+ metre range Nigel has at the shop. Smashing little rifle I thought. If it shoo -
Hi John. These scopes were among the best that Simmons made and they are perfect for Weihrauch spring and HW100 air rifles. I bought a "Graphite"-coated Whitetail Classic Supernightview 4.5-14X40mm AO scope over ten years ago when I bought my current HW80 .22 standard rifle. It cost £230:00 I remember and it has outperformed every other riflescope I've aquired since. It still sits atop my HW80 still and there it will forever stay because this scope didn't flinch when the rifle was tuned to near 20ft/lbs on my FAC. It holds zero and is as clear and accurate as it was brand new. Simmons st

Achieving correct Gun and scope Fit.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
You're more than welcome Tony mate I'm still trying to figure out the perfect method to achieve the perfect shot. But, after 40 odd years of air rifle shooting, I have managed to learn a few enough tricks and tips I'm willing to pass on because I know that they work. There are still more questions than answers with this sport Tony. I still set up some days to target-practice shoot and my shots are flying all over the place and I cannot figure why before I've exhausted a few avenues that get me back into smooth accuracy again. Hope you find what I've written a big help for your own sh -
Never heard of them Stevo. "Suck em and see" is the best advice with any untried pellet. If it happens you find the perfect pellet that groups consistently one-hole tight with little deviation from your gun's barrel, buy by the shedload of them and stick with them. If they don't, move on to try something else. Vermin has no idea what's good at switching them off, and what's not! ATB Simon

My God Si, you really do have extreme air rifle range shooting well and truly understood. Bravo mate, truly! You know, it's always great to see nice folks having good fun and by the progress Laura is showing, she is a natural good shot, no mistake . I'm coming down to the meet with the new Weihrauch HW77 .22 and fly the flag for spring rifles, speaking of which, hopefully, will be tuned by Tony Wall by then. Though as it is, it's smoothing out beautifully on my test range. And my prehistoric but utterly dependable Simmons and Bushnell 30-30 duplex reticle scopes. After what it's doing s

She has already claimed the new Tench tuned Ultra and asking me to train her some more prior to the next meet. I'm starting to worry now.... I think that prior to her shooting i will put some Bulldog pellets into her Bisley Magnum pellet tin and twist her turrets so shes not zeroed LOL Si That sir, is not the act of a gentleman...Tinkering with a lady's turrets you bounder... Yeah! Do it Si! You cannot lose face here mate Women shooting as well as the men?!! They'll be demanding to serve as frontline infantry next!!! ATB Simon

Now isn't that just like Murphy's Law -an absolute perfect shgot opportunity and the gun's not ready! I have had to wait and stalk and ambush patiently for hours with my rifle on my permission just to bag one or two rabbits some days and evenings. I took an evening stroll into the woodland with my partner Joanne without cammo or rifle, one sunny night this year and there were hundreds of rabbits popping up all over the place along the hedgerow I normally stake-out. Bloody typical! ATB Simon

May I be the first to wish everyone of this forum a very happy, successful and prosperous New Year. I'm doing it now as, tomorrow, I may be someplace else I will not be able to recall where on New Year's Day! All the very best to you Ladies and Gentlemen Simon

I know there's a panicky knee jerk measure about replicas but, I find the restrictions on airsoft "weapons" a bloody joke. They are nowhere near as powerful as a sub 12ft/lb air rifle yet, I can buy a genuine WW2 bolt action Mauser K98 7.92mm rifle on my FAC and shoot it at a gun club, with less crap than an Airsoft copy of this rifle requires. All this bullcrap about having to belong to a skirmish club blah blah.... I'm sorry but, after a fair chunk of my life serving in the RAF rockapes, I have no desire to dress up like a feckin half-arsed stormtrooper and play bang-your-dead at my age, nor

Nicely shot Woody brace Jasp. Of course, there's a bit of wisdom says that, the shooter's skill is something to do with it but, I'm glad to see you are enjoying what this new shroud and baffles kit has done for the handling and sound moderation of your Daystate rifle. A very happy new year of shooting with it Jasp. All the best buddy. Simon

Hello Laura. I'm another Simon. Nice to see you here and very much looking forward to meeting simon and Yourself at the 'meet' thingy in the new year. I hope you are getting the same enjoyment from your shooting as the next of us here. A very happy new year and all the very best to you both. Simon

Lee Enfield No.5 Jungle Carbine
pianoman replied to Mastiff's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
That's a beautiful condition rifle you have Mastiff. It's definately a Lee Enfield No5 and these were made between 1944 and 1947. Evolved from the Enfield No 4 .303 SMLE service rifle as a shorter, more manageable carbine, it was found to be less effective than the No4 in general European terrain. However, it was well liked for it's quicker handling, though it did suffer from "Wandering Zero" with point of impact changes encountered later during the day. It proved itself well suited to closer-range jungle fighting and thus, the Mk5 303 SMLE carbines were extensively used by British and Commo -

Hi Davy mate. Thanks for being so kind in your compliments mate. By the way, that comment of mine on Si's YouTube vid. Your comments came up 'COMMENT REMOVED' Just checked back there and lo and behold, you are there for all to read! Ah well, heyho! Cheers davy Simon -
Things have come a long way on since the 1960s and the "JOHNNY SEVEN" Assault rifle I got as a boy one Christmas. And also at least, we didn't have that bloody ridiculous Home Office rule that requires an air soft replica has to be 50% painted in silly colours to be legally sold to the public who are not members of skirmish sites or clubs. I've now heard of real, live fire guns being siezed in police raids that have been painted to look like replicas! I would love to say to the Home Office tosser who came up with this absurd idea; 'What the F*** did you think Criminals would do with their

Achieving correct Gun and scope Fit.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Thanks so much for your kind remarks to my posts gentlemen. No Buster mate, good points are never waffle . Thanks for the kind compliment too. With regard to the correct fit of the buttstock being from your elbow cleft, along the inside of your arm to your hand holding the grip, you are correct to raise that detail of point. It's an old rule of thumb but a good one still. This is one of the reasons why I love Weihrauch air rifles so much, apart from their brilliant accuracy. The HW80, HW95 and HW77 fits me like a bespoke, hand tailored rifle. Same goes for the Air Arms TX200. Getting -
Ladies and Gentlemen. Further to my thread about spring rifle shooting accuracy. I thought we'd take a closer look at an area some shooters may not be aware or certain of. Gun Fit. How well does his rifle and scope combination truly fit him/her in the field. Because how well your rifle and scope fits you, is a measure of how consistently well you will shoot with it. The shotgun fraternity have long since known that a comfortable, correctly fitting gun is crucial to accuracy. Which is why gunmakers like Purdey & Son and Holland & Holland exist to provide the shooting man and woman

Spring air rifle shooting.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Mikey, Wurz, Ste, Treganin and Trev. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to read my thread lads. My previous encounter with SMK Trev, was a few chinese B2 type air rifles which were bloody horrible. They have improved things dramatically since they began copying the Weihrauch HW99 and HW95K as far as looks and handling go. I found the metalwork and blueing to be better quality but, a bit second division still. But, I'm told the accuracy of their barrels is excellent nowadays. If this rifle fits you better than your brother's HW35 you can shoot more accurately and effectively with one, then -
Hi Lordgamebore. Just to say do not attempt to use a set of sticks or a purpose-made bipod as a solid rest for shooting a spring rifle. The felt-recoil runs in two directions at once and, as much of it is vibration from the spring and piston punching forwards, the rifle will jump sharply about and upwards from a solid rest and you will never achieve accuracy, no matter how much you try to get a working zero. From what you are saying in your post, you are lacking a bit of confidence to take a precision shot on the head and brain area. Heart and lung shots are only effective if you know EXAC

First of all congratulations on buying a magnificent rifle Robert. What have you; .177 or .22? As for the Hawke Panorama EV 3-9x40. I don't have that particular model but other Hawke models I do have seem to combine well with the TX200. Should be fine Robert mate ATB Simon

Spring air rifle shooting.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi Davy. Thanks so much for your post and comments here mate. You know how first impressions last the longest? I have several mates who shoot their pcps over the same land and every time I see them out, seems there's one of them going home early with a rifle that's failed in some way. Of course it's possibly down to less than proper care and maintainance but, the fields are very dry and the soils are very dusty and it seems to give the pcp guns a bit of a hard time. There are seemingly no end of these guns in for repairs at my gunsmiths but, that is likely down to the fact that there are more -
