Don't you have the usual 3 arrestor holes on this rifle lampingboy? If you use decent Sportsmatch or Hawke mounts you will find a stud under the base of one of them. Fit this into the arrestor hole that gives you best eye-relief and that will stop creep-back of the scope. If you do not have arrestor holes on this particular HW35, you can now buy an arrestor block by Bisley for around £8 that clamps to your scoperails and your scopemount buffers up to it. Main thing to begin with mate is, DO NOT go flashing your lamp or swinging it about in all directions or you might as well stick a bloody great arrow over your head saying YOOHOO! Lovely stuff Davy. I'd be interested to see what you make out of the HW35. The beauty of Weihrauchs is that they can stand up to poor care and handling to the point where they look like bloody hell on the outside but, still be spot on internally. As long as the cylinder's internal surfaces are fine and the barrel's true and not rusted in the bore, they can be restored to a really lovely rifle. Quite right Steve. Leave the dead where they are till you are moving on to another location on the shoot. I take 1-foot lengths of cut string, bind the hind legs together in a looped knot and hang the rabbit in a tree out of the way of Foxes and crows to be collected on the way back.

It would be really something to work alongside Si and produce a no-bollocks field manual of a book and DVD. The shared military fieldcraft and rifle/scope set-up experience alone would be quite something that you won't quite get in "Airgunner". -
All good points to note Alan Sound carries particularly well at night as most of the world has clocked off for the day and background "White" noise like winds, traffic rumble, farm vehicles has eased off and rabbits are particularly wary of their enemies moving in the dark. You really need to study the fields of your permission before you start any hunting over them. Plan it like a military recce, with you binos from distance. Hi Gaoler. They are a lovely scope and one of the best ever for airgun use. I would use a 20 mag scope of this quality and I'm going to go get one I think. I like having the best options of having higher mag when I need it for zeroing or target shooting, and then, wind it down for low light hunting. But you have a choice beteen 50mm and 40mm frontal objective lenses. Personally? I'd go for the 40mm. Hi Andy. Sounds a bit like a variation on a German "Post and Four" or a German 4A reticle. Optics maker Hensoldt Detzlar (Now Ziess) developed it for Wehrmacht and Waffen SS Jaegers (snipers) during WW2. One of my favourites! Simon

Well shot Jazmin mate I had a great morning's target shooting but then the rains came from about 1:30pm and the winds were blowing like hell across the fields I shoot over. I wouldn't discount them Steve, but it has to be only a question for accuracy. You wont get a bigger knockdown thwack. That's kinetic velocity over mass doing that and that's FAC level power. We are getting into mass by weight by velocity ratios here Steve. There is a sliding scale of velocity that rises or falls without the mass weight registering in kinetic terms of foot pound energy. This is where your lighter pellets will be performing at. Without significant increases in mass velocity, you gain a little extra speed but no significant kinetic increase. Or you need an FAC! Hi Steve. Damage would be about the same as your regular 16 grain .22 pellet. You have to be aware that pellet weights and airgun power propelling them at constant velocity from a fixed power output of charged air are seperate but connected issues. What we all want is an accurate shooting, kinetically powerful pellet with the knockdown power and the speed to get to the target fast and bop it hard on the spot before it runs off! The gains of a lighter pellet are useful but really marginal, assuming first of all the brand in question are superbly accurate from your barrel. A bit f

Just to add as a suggestion for a sling. I have a lovely padded leather sling made for/by Bisley on all my rifles. They cost a bit but, worth every penny carrying a hefty rifle on your shoulder securely. Simon

Can't fault the advice you've been given Nev. With a budget of 250 quid, go for a secondhand Weihrauch HW77, HW95 or HW80. All of them at the top of the class. OR Air Arms TX200 rifle or HC carbine. Google them up and have a good look. You will not shoot better than these I can assure you. I own them all and love em to the point of perversity!!. Take your time and try them all. With Weihrauch or Air Arms spring rifles, you'll have an air rifle you can grow with and develope your shooting with among these listed here. And that's what you really need. Great read JD. An HW77 and a Simmons Whitetail scope. That's just classical spring rifle hunting. Got the same set up with my .22 HW77 mounted with a Simmons Whitetail Clasic Supernightview 4-14X40 AO scope. At my 25 metre hunting zero, it doesn't get more accurate than that. Nice one! Simon

Well an FAC springer does not like the heavyweight Bisleys, that's pretty certain. I'd agree with your decision to reduce power in the spring. 22-plus Foot Pounds output, while perfect for .22 spring rifle, is way too much power for .177 calibre in my humble opinion.
