  1. Fair play Garfield, the Theoben Evolution is not as heavy as a TX200HC and it was a decently accurate rifle. I had a great two weeks during summer 2003 clearing a barn of rats and ferrals with one (and a FENMAN) loaned to me from Guns International. One of the best that Theoben produced but, it could be a notorious scope-smasher I remember. Only Simmons or Nikko Stirling made an airgun scope that I could safely trust would withstand the snap recoil of the Theoben ram. I wouldn't give much hope for a Hawke and certainly not a Bushnell scope lasting a decent range session. Definately a good one
  2. Cheers Ste. It's nice to go beyond the typed words and actually meet up with the good lads you meet on here. You too, are welcome to come spend a day or two shooting here with us if you are up in our part of west Yorkshire Ste . ATB Simon
  3. I wouldn't have a Hatstand in .177 let alone one in .25 where ammo choice is even more restricted.
  4. A .177 Gas Ram in a .22 rifle will take it to around 14 and a bit Ft/lbs. I've done it myself with a Webley Excel years ago. Not worth a slot on an FAC nowadays but, more than enough to land you neck-deep in the shit if you don't have one!
  5. I'm looking forward to asking her what you are like on a shooting trip ...or indeed, what you are like to live with moley!
  6. Yeah but he wants lighter, They aint bloody light lol What about a Hw Break barrel pianoman? Karpman They aren't THAT bloody heavy Karpie. OK...lighter still and highly accurate would be WEIHRAUCH HW95. But I'm not sure if the cylinder length will lend itself to FAC tuning to a level that would make putting it on-ticket worth the slot on one. I had one in .22 and it was a beauty to shoot at sub 12 ft/lbs.
  7. Never mind the bloody jet fairies aloft moley. Keep the breezes towards you, movements to the bare minimum and watch your shadows if there is a bright low sun. Fieldcraft is about convincing your quarry that you are not there. Have your rifle zeroed and get yourself comfy and settled well in advance of time they start emerging from their warrens. Good luck! Simon
  8. I think Matt's answer has it right Mikey. You'll really need to keep things reasonably close to get the best out of .25 in sub 12ft/lbs. It's at it's best with around 20-30 ft/lbs up its skirts. Simon
  9. You should 8shot. I started air rifle shooting when there was no alternative to spring power. Consequently, I love the spring rifle best of all and within the last thirty years they have reached a superb level of performance. Simon
  10. To be fair Matt, Bushnell did replace a very expensive 2-year old 4-14x50 Scopechief that my FAC HW80's recoil had wrecked, with a brand new model under their warranty. I use it on my kinder-recoiling .177 TX00HC now though! Fair play to Hawke/Deben for replacing this one too! Simon
  11. Air Arms TX200HC .177. Absolutely accurate as it gets, perfect for your needs and easily uprates to FAC with no problem.
  12. That's really good of you Bob. I was with Andy on my permission when this matter came to light. It was a new batch of these pellets and the shots were grouping very poorly from both of us trying Andy's HW90 gas ram at a 35 yard target. We checked the rifle, butt to muzzle, thoroughly and even changed scopes and still to no avail. These have proved excellent pellets for Andy's HW90 in the past and, having shot them myself with this rifle before, I was very impressed with their accuracy and consistencies at the targets we shot them to. Hope you can help. Thank you Bob. All the best.
  13. All of them superb guns mate! Thanks for the compliments 8-shot
  14. Archie, your avatars make your posts mate. It's a pleasure to see your responses whenever you appear. One day I'll even read your text! ATB Simon
  15. Hells teeth! £900 is a bit steep! HOWEVER I could settle for a standard stock on the 77 untill I can afford a nice custom one. Thanks for the advice on the tele sights lads. Looks like Hawke are out the window. As it happens I have been looking at the 97 and I like the TH stocks alot, especially the very contoured custom ones. But if im getting a Weihrauch with a custom stock its just gotta be a 77. Simon, is there any reason you would choose a .22 over .177 based on accuracy? I know that the .22 pellet is as accurate as the .177 but beeing abit 'green' when it comes to decent spr
  16. Hi there. This link you put here shows an HW77 with a CS800 thumbhole stock from Custom Stock exactly as I was trying to describe before. The HW77 is just an amazingly accurate rifle whichever calibre you desire. The only regret I have with mine is... I didn't buy one long ago. Google Custom Stock for their website. Best of luck with your quest. Simon
  17. Bloody hell, that sounds right tasty! I would never have though squirrel would taste that nice. I love Peking Duck and Mandarin pancakes with spring onions, cucumbers and Hoi Sin sauce too!
  18. Looks great for a woodland shoot Andy, just the sort of thing I coud do with for my permission. Use the bases of the trees as additional cover if you comfortably can. You'll look like a clump of windblown leaves at the base and reduce your human shapes and movement at where ground level rabbits will see you. All the best to you both lads. Simon
  19. Just had a look at the Gunstar ad. It's a .22 HW77 and the stock is the Custom Stock's thumbhole I mentioned. Pricewise, on brand new we are looking at about £400 for the rifle and £300 for the stock, plus, say £200 for the scope so, £900 plus a bit of change. Saving about £400 here off brand spanking. We'll call the rifleslip a freebie. So, not too bad a price really. Simon Edit to add. What's the quality of a Bushmaster scope? Never had one! But this is described as a mint condition rifle so, if I was right handed and looking for a thumbhole HW77, I'd definately give the seller
  20. Hi Born Hunter. I have both these Air Arms and Weihrauch rifles. My HW77 is .22 and full length, but, my TX200HC is .177. Either is an incredibly accurate, superbly well-made hunting arm that will last as long as you will. As to which is the better rifle... That's really down to your personal preferrence. If I had to pick just one -and one only, it would be my HW77 .22. It's every bit as accurate as .177 and it's put pellet on pellet at every range-distance I've tested it to. It looks and handles exactly how I like a rifle to be and offers both open sight and scope accuracy. In .177 c
  21. Good luck with this one moley. Keep us informed how you get on mate.
  22. Emo Phillips and Andy look alike...Nope. Sorry moley I can't see the resemblance. I'm thinking of having another foray into the woods this afternoon with the HW77 and, depending on how the breeze runs, cover the warrens near or around the spot Andy was positioned. A zero for shooting upslope should see me alright. That's if I don't end up sliding down into the river! Simon
  23. Cheers Davy. I can only apologise for any impairment to the enjoyment of your delicious roast Squirrel mate. Actually I must compliment you for trying this out. Bravo brave food warrior! What did it taste like? Cheers again mate. Simon
  24. I never used a Pro Hunter scope but, given the great results I've had with Simmons Bud, I would imagine it would be fine for your HW77 Simon
  25. That's very kind of you to say Andy mate. What you don't bag today will still be there tomorrow. It's generally a very quiet period at this time of year for rabbits. Even down among the heart of the warrens in the woods here, I only saw 5 rabbits in total throughout the whole time. I don't think Andy saw any more from his position. But owning a rifle that can reliably hit a 5p coin in your hands at 60 metres and honing your shooting with it..now that's a pleasure you can indulge all day long. ATB Simon
