Does anyone remember a young lad calling himself 'How to hunting' here a while back? He offered sound advice on storing your air rifle upright with the stock-butt end on the floor and some "handy" hunting tips and do's and don'ts too.... Christ almighty. Kids today....!

Bingleyboy, welcome to the section mate. Thank you for this timely and unsolicitored reminder and your good advices here. But I think we are all well-up to speed on UK Firearms Law regarding usages of air weapons thank you!

Sub 12Ft/lbs V F.a.c. Inc Calibre Question.
pianoman replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
"PCP all the way" Let's be totally honest here. This is a comment from someone who does not shoot with a spring rifle and, if he ever did, it was probably not a successful venture into shooting with one, usually with a poor understanding of spring rifle recoil-management or only a cheap rifle if ever at all. And of course, spring rifles weigh a ton and are totally un-shootable to the inexperienced. Perhaps this helps explains the difficulty our friend here has, in believing a top quality spring rifle is capable of hitting hard and accurately beyond about 30 yards. Those lads who ha -
Spring rifle shooter me, so I only use Sportsmatch 2-piece mounts. Single mounts don't give you quite the same degree of flexibility to mount your scope to exactly where it needs to be in respect of perfect eye-relief and scope-weight distribution over the action, I've found. And other makes of mounts are monkey metal by comparison. Hawke mounts on a recoilless PCP are OK.....but on nothing else as regards type of action. Having spent a fortune on a fine quality spring rifle counts for little, if your mounts are poor and won't stay put under recoil. And nor will your zero as a consequ

Dear Rabid...Alas..... I just couldn't bear to part with my MP40. Apart from the fact that they are getting scarce+expensive on the deactivated markets for originals now, I've wanted one of these since I was in short pants, watching "Garrison's Guerillas" on TV and I made one out of scrap wood so I could play 'war' with my mates....I'd really regret parting with it, I know. Sorry buddy Loving the sound of the mp40, been looking for an original like that, if you ever decide to sell it........

Aww thank you Jamie it was a lovely surprise to meet you and your beautiful lady in the hangar at East Kirkby yesterday. You both have to come over to our home and have a shooting day with me soon. And Helen's cooking..- we won't send you home hungry. Helen pulls pints at The Blue Bell and is my local pub. The food is bloody marvellous and the beer is superb. Jimmy's a lovely guy too. Thanks for those kind words mate. We are both keeping you in our thoughts for Nicola's continued good health and recovery from a really bad fall she had a while back. Ethan is a fine, lovely lad. We think

The walnut on your Pro Sport looked marvellous. No way could I have sold a gun like as beautiful that. Knowing for myself just how fine a rifle these Pro Sports are. I would still open up the sandpaper and set to work, turning it into a left-hand friendly stock. Just waiting on Tim to get better from his spell of ill health, so he can tune my Pro Sport and set my trigger better. Totally stunning how accurate and just so "right" to shoot with this rifle is. Out of all of these guns, which is the one you regret selling the most? Webley Raider?

Christ sake you are always getting new guns .wasn't that long ago 98 came into your life You don't know what your on about. It's been more than 5 months. In fact. When was the he one.... erm. f**k sake. Near me. Not Warwick. Near me though. F'sake. I have absolutely no idea what that little rant means Jamie, but you sound a bit hacked off with not having anything new to shoot for about 10 minutes! Certainly never heard of somewhere near you but, not Warwick (?) being used to describe when you last had one!

Oh, oh, this is not a good sign for such a well-loved and much-vaunted air rifle . It's definitely a fault in stock manufacture. Such a thing has no visibly useful function as far as I can see in the pic. You have to ask..."What else have they missed on the other rifles? Is this an isolated case of absent minded neglect on the part of the quality check? Or was it "Ahh let it through, it's a one off fault and nobody will notice.....!" Yeah, like sure they won't! Pretty sure you'll get a more satisfactory replacement Mark. It's a superb Marque of air rifle this in all other respect

Broken Pellet Probe.
pianoman replied to ArchieHood's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I don't like to see anyone here getting a poor, dishonest service for their honestly-earned money. This looks a poor show to me on the part of the people you entrusted the servicing to Archie. I hope you get a happy resolve tomorrow old mate, but, perhaps this is a fault on the part of Gamo too? They own BSA and the standard and durable quality of their manufacturing has gone well south of what BSA once were. A solidly reliable British gunmaker who built real quality into all their rifles. Those days are definitely over it seems now. A replacement bolt and probe and job done, surely? -
Without knowing what's involved in licensing an air rifle under Scottish law...But, it seems to me, with all this licensing requirement for air guns going on in Scotland, you'd perhaps be better off getting your FAC for an air rifle and go totally legit with having something worthwhile the licensing process. Especially if you already have shotguns and sporting rifles on a ticket. The police seem to generally look a bit more favourably on applications for FAC air rifles for pest control work than higher calibre full bore weapons I've found. Or, it may be a bit different with Scottish police

There comes a time when you think, "I could make that rifle really sing at the target!"" But try with all your might, it won't quite get there. I'm afraid this looks like one of those moments Jimmy. If this was really that good, Kral would be outselling HW and Air Arms.

Fao Philpot/and The Rest Of The Lads Iv Done Work For
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in General Airgun Discussion
You know what I feel about the HW80 and HW77 stock refurbs you've done for me Jimmy. Just bloody beautiful. I'm not making jokes or any banter about this. Your work is too much appreciated and cherished by me here mate. My HW80 .22 FAC is shooting as well as ever. One raggy-hole 10 shot group at 35 metres is all the accuracy this powerhouse needs. Fur or feather, shell flatten the lot! I've fitted the HW77 stock to my HW97 and it has made this little rifle into an incredible well-handling and super-accurate target rifle and hunter. Absolutely transformed it from a superb rifle to an incred -
Definitely, you are sitting on and aiming a Bofors 40mm Anti Aircraft gun Jamie. Fed by a magazine of shells top loading into the breech. It made a distinctive ''pom-pom-pom'' sound when it fired. It was a decent gun for the time when they mounted it on merchant and naval ships defending against medium altitude aircraft; 1.000ft or so up. They put two of these guns, one each under the wings of Hawker Hurricane tank busters in the western desert. Gave it a formidable punch against light german armoured vehicles.

Happy Birthday Ethan Tx(Little Hunter)
pianoman replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Happy Birthday Ethan. Time really has flown since you first came on here with grandad. Have a great day little pal and enjoy your new present! You'll be out shooting on your own next thing! Love from me and auntie Helen XX -
That's a blast from the past,i think a lot of us cut our teeth on twangy-bangy relums,i still remember knocking rabbits (close range) over with mine, great thread I still have a blast from the past lodged in my left cheek-bone courtesy of a Relum Tornado. I was about ten years old and plinking with my little Mk3 Webley .22 in my auntie's back garden, when along comes my (now deceased) cousin pointing his brand-new-from-the-Great Universal-catologue Relum Tornado tap loader .22 straight at me from about five feet away and forgot he'd loaded the bloody thing......Then he pulled the tri

Tell you what Jamie, there's a great ebay store I always use for my ammo needs, called Sundon Model Shop. For about £2.50 or so, they'll send you a little brand-marked bag of 50 pellets of just about any make you fancy plus, any headsize you want to try. Just enough pellets to see if your rifle loves em or not. Postage is usually free too and they deliver quick. My guns like odd, uncommon headsizes sizes like 5.53mm or 4.51mm or 4.50mm etc. and these fellas always have what I'm after. Can't fault em!

Got a pic or two of it mate?

I just think it's horses for courses and styles for styles. I have never used a bipod for the simple reason I have always been a spring gun man from an era when these adjustable Harris type bipods were unheard of for an air rifle; and thus, such a device is useless to my guns and my way of shooting. Had I been a much younger man today with, perhaps, more of a liking or preference for PCPs I might be using one. As it is, I wouldn't want one on my Daystate Regal as I like the weight and balance of that rifle as it is. I'm so used to mootching along and dropping down into a prone shooting
-
Hmmm Of course, an adjustable Harris' type bipod will allow you a stable aiming platform...But... Is this really necessary, to mount on an air rifle? I've been shooting 53 years without one and the best instantly adjustable prone-shooting bipod I know is stuck to me on either side of my torso! They're called arms and elbows!

Another trick you could try, is to use a drop of gun oil like Bisley oil onto a bit of fine wire wool and gently rub it over the rust spots. I found this removes light surface rust and brings back the sheen and shine without damaging the blueing.

You won't regret the TX200HC Lewis. I had one, an older Mk.III in .177 flavour and I loved it. I wish to God I never sold it... ... but, a .22 Pro Sport is what I truly desired and finally got! I shot with Phil's .177 TX200HC (Philpot) when he visited me at my home a while back and Man! It was a beautiful little rifle to shoot with. On Air Arms Express pellets it was putting pellet on pellet clean into a single hole at 35 metres range from my left shoulder and hand, and this was a right hander's gun! Can't fault it mate!

Pianoman. I played piano and keyboards professionally in a couple of touring rock 'n roll bands from the 1990s to the time I joined the forum, as well as being a professional military artist. Pianoman was a name I got from those days. And it sounded all right. I knew no one else would have a handle like that. So, there it is.

Optisan 3-12X44 Are These Any Good?
pianoman replied to PeskyWabbits's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Don't buy any scope until you can put it to your eye and judge it for yourself. Just saying, but, there's a lot of rubbish on offer that whites' out, won't focus, won't paralax adjust and all manner of other issues with zero., the turrets, lenses. Everything.
