  1. YES YES YES!!!!!! Awww Diana 430 Stutzen!! Now you're talking about a seriously beautiful rifle. Just like the 46 Stutzen except that they gave the 430 model a conventional sliding breech instead of that pop-up unit. For a scope that will bring the very best out of her Wurz, have a hunt around for a second user SIMMONS WHITETAIL CLASSIC 4.5-14x40 AO SUPERNIGHTVIEW. I have one on my HW80 FAC .22 and another for my HW77 and it is an incredibly accurate scope for a spring rifle as good as these Dianas and Weihrauchs. This is the very scope I was using for my 77 when Si and Andy came over the oth
  2. Thank you both lads. I have to say, I have become genuinely smitten with the potential this beautiful little rifle of Si's has to offer. It does give a very comfortable reach to the target at 50 to 63 metres we were shooting to and the smoothness of it's firing cycle reduces a few of the variables you have to control with a recoiling spring rifle. In other words. Shot for shot, I can match anything the R10 can do with my HW77 for long range accuracy but, I soon knew, from even this little bit of a try-out, I have to work a fair bit harder to accomplish it with the HW77 . The R10 makes i
  3. Andy could you make it over with us on Thursday afternoon if you can make it over and say, meet up with us at the same field? We'll have a session on Friday if that's a no-go! Simon
  4. Looks like I'm going to save for the R10 and keep my TX200 rifle. It's too good to let go. Even if I don't shoot with it as much as I should. Work's getting a bit dry right now. Markha, is your S400 left-handed? For the lamping foray Si, I have my TX200HC .177 carbine. It's an incredibly accurate rifle and reliable as it gets with a superb Bushnell 4-14x50 scope. I think that should do it! No worries if you want me to store and keep your shooting kit safe with me while you are away in Canada. Sure mate. It'll be safer than safe with me! Thursday 1200 it shall be Si mate.

  6. Hi Si Yep, I'm well up for some lamping shooting with you mate. Give us a bell and get yourself up whenever you want to, as often as you like. I think the place needs it as I'm not seeing very much activity in daylight hours but, there's a hell of a lot going on in the dark. Sell TX200...get R10.. ...Oh God what do I do??
  7. Hi Si. That would be great to go lamping with you mate. I have very little actual experience of lamping and there will be a huge amount of nocturnal rabbit activity. Pop up whenever you want to come up S and give me a call. I'm without a mobile phone at the mo, so, just ring my landline number. There is a huge amount of land being seeded for barley and the shooting will be amazing. It would be really something if Davy could get to join us when he can. You rifle is so lovely I'm actually thinking of selling my beloved Air Arms TX200 .22 rifle and a scope or two to raise the funds to g
  8. A bunch of prehistoric cavemen are gathered in a cave discussing hunting a particularly tricky animal. As they study a wall-painting of a large prehistoric reptile with a vicious looking multi-spiked tail, their leader turns to the group. "Now then lads, pay particular attention to the defensive weaponry of this animal's tail. We call it the "Thag-O-Mizer" in honour of it's late discoverer...Thaddius P. Thag....
  9. Well said Craig. Seconded! TX200HC .177 is a masterpiece.
  10. My dear friends Si and Andy. It was a fantastic day to finally meet Si in person and share a day where top class precision shooting practice in a difficult wind condition is both shared and witnessed and thoroughly enjoyed, without the pressures of having to produce a hunting bag of quarry or vermin. This is something EVERY rifleman should indulge in and enjoy. The sheer joy of being out in the sunshine and fresh air with your rifle, scope and a plentiful supply of ammo and get working seriously on your shooting to the limits you can control your personal accuracy to. And have some rewardi
  11. ooh I'm not sure...Monday, got work to do, music to rehearse, calls to make, things to do... Or... shooting with you and Andy??? Hmmmmm... Yahhhhh Great!! See you when you get up Si!
  12. That's excellent Moley. Now laddie. Work on tightening the group up to as near a single hole at 30 yards as you can. When (not if!) you can hit that level of accuracy without having to think too much about it, increase your range to 35 yards but, never lose sight of the closer ranges where hold-under will occur. Being pin-sharp at one medium-long range-distance parameter is only part of the story. More guys miss close range bunnies thasn they'll admit to! Simon
  13. AWWWW It looks like it's been a great weekend! Sore point here why I couldn't get away for it but, I'm honestly glad the weather seems to have behaved itself and bags have been bagged, shots have been shot and everyone enjoyed getting together and doing it all good and proper.. Amazing shot on a pidgeon at 61 yards Andy, that's bloody going for it mate. My compliments on your marksmanship here Andy and to everyone who shot well this weekend. Wind is wind and it's part and parcel of the conditions we have to contend with. Hey Si, seems you have a genuine shooter with you
  14. Everything is determined by the angle we shoot from. What happens Andy is that, everytime you aim your rifle, you are viewing your target either through a lens or an open sight which is invariably mounted above the bore centreline of your rifle's barrel. The shot itself flies straight and true from the barrel then, as it begins to fall with depleting energy, and increasing gravity, it describes a downward curve flightpath till it hits the ground. Viewing through a scope, your eye is actually following a straight line of sight in a gentle, downward angle (a closing bearing angle) which bisec
  15. sub .12 ft/lb .22 Garfield. I don't know what the retained kinetic energy is at these ranges but, it's plenty more than enough as the shot hits from a plunging angle and gravity takes an effect. A chrono and balistic putty will give an accurate measure. I've never measured it with a .22 air rifle pellet but done plenty of calibre-effect testing with .300, .303, .308 7.62mm and .50 ammunition in extreme range shooting during my service years. A hit from a plunging round carries far more destructive kinetic power than the same calibre round hitting from shorter ranges using flatter trajecto
  16. Happy Birthday Andy mate. Never mind them mucky women on your avatar; avashoot it's the weekend buddy!
  17. I've done it fry but, I cannot stress enough how still the breeze must be and how much you really have to know everything about your kit and yourself to attempt such shots. And built from a basic zero of just 30 metres. Your rifle's barrel alone has to be superbly accurate, the action fitting perfectly with the stock. Not a loose screw anywhere. I've probably shot extreme range air rifle successfully on live targets only a few times when the conditions were absolutely perfect. My FAC HW80 full length .22 has done most of them, including long shots taken before it was tuned. It was the extreme
  18. Any further news on joining us up here in Yorkshire Davy?
  19. Hmmm :hmm: I wonder... If that fishing rod idleback could be padded to successfully support a spring rifle...??? :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
  20. Wonderful! The long winter nights must fly by!
  21. White Spirit and cotton wool, soft cloth or kitchen towel. Apply spirit neat to sticky area with a small paintbrush till it softens and melts the adhesive residue and wipe clean with soft cloth etc. Re-oil as good as new. Simon
  22. Heyyyy what can I say moley! You flatter me very much but, what I write is what I know works from some well proven principles..or not, as the case may be. Glad it's worked for you mate. Now, go do it again. In the brain next time. looks like you hit it in the cheek under the eye. Poor bugger's fought it's last battle though alright. Well done moley Simon
  23. Well shot Saluki mate. As long as you have a reliable, accurate springer, you'll never be without a rifle to shoot with.
  24. Weihrauch HW80. HW77. HW95. Air Arms Prosport, TX200. TX200HC. No bullshit, no bollocks. Spring rifle perfection, whatever calibre; .177 or .22. Hatsans...yeah, right Like comparing a fecking 1970s Honda Civic to a Mercedes AMG or ASTON MARTIN.
