  1. Hi Dave. Thanks for this mate. But sorry to hear you are having a job on, finding a permission of your own to shoot. Despite the negative press, farmers and gardeners are always plagued with rabbits and want rid of them. Keep trying. Review how you are going about making approaches to landowners and try try try. It'll pay off in the end handsomely. You just see! Simon
  2. Excellent shooting there Wedge mate, But, if i may say, focus your shooting on one rabbit alone where you see two or more. You could have had two more rabbits in the bag on your film there! I can appreciate how tricky it is shooting through a scope cam so, all respect to you here! Simon
  3. Hello Mary. Well why don't we stick with our S200 and undertake a LOAD/UNLOAD handling drill with it and a bit of self-discipline as a safety measure? It's not the rifle you need to change Mary, just your approach to it. Sounds like right now, you've had your confidence jolted. Don't worry. As long as you are alright. Sleep on it and start again tomorrow. Just treat it with a bit more respect eh? Simon
  4. Now don't go giving up the greatest sport of all dear. Put it down to experience, learn the lesson and move on with it. Simon
  5. I think I agree with Darryl, sounds to me like that is barrel metal being struck by debris as the pellet zips down the rifling. Give it a thorough clean and see then. What do you think Jasp? Simon
  6. Hi Si. Cracking post and read from you here mate. You need a kill or twenty after the fruitless night's lamping on my permission. I'm going over there now to chat with Ian and have a wander around, do a bit of shooting and a stalk for woodies and see what's been going on with poachers and net/ferreters. Though to be honest, I think they are staying within the forestry around my place. Andy's coming over tomorrow so, we might get something more positive for our sport. That R10 of yours is such a precise and powerful shooting engine, it's amazing that a rabbit can be hit and still get away
  7. Generally speaking James, for your pcp, yes. Buy a quality Harris job. You won't regret the purchase Simon
  8. Hi Boroboyoli. If I were in your boots young fella I would forget the Crossman and go for a Weihrauch HW95 or HW90 Gas Ram, HW98 with adjustable stock, or HW80K, HW97K or, my personal favourite, the HW77. I don't know how tall you are or your build-characteristics so, I cannot determine which of these rifles will suit you the best. All I can honestly tell you is that these six Weihrauch rifles are stunningly accurate as any PCP rifle, they will enable you to develope your shooting better as you grow, and they will last you all your lifetime, if you look after them. If your budget stretches to
  9. probably a good idea then simon, but please go careful buddy-we dont want to lose you to a stray .17 round or a .22 richochete mate. so you've been converted to mil dots then? i find a mil dot reticle much easier to use, its the only reason i wont be putting a simmons WTC on the stutzen when it gets here-not that i'll need one for long distance shooting for a while-i reckon that a good 3-9x40 or a jsr scope like andy's got'll do the job fine, keeping the profile low on a rifle thats gonna be used between dawn and dusk. i figure that it would make life hard doing any night time shooting w
  10. Happy birthday young fella...well you are a bloody sight younger than me!
  11. Hi Wurz. Yes mate I think a bit of permission-watch is needed. I've had a word with Ian the landowner and he's gonna get me a list of who has permission. My guests are fine as they are with me under my supervision as it were. A long road runs right through the middle of the land and there's always been some idiot and his mates sniping from a 4x4 with a .22 or 17HMR rimfire and a spotlamp or poaching. Never a police patrol when one would do some good. I'm out with Andy again on Sunday but, I'm off up the whole permission tomorrow to see what else there will be. Simon
  12. Thanks Ste. Yeah mate you might have a point about these buggers coming on with nets and ferrets but, the permission I have to shoot over is vast. They can't be covering it all and there isn't a bunny anywhere. Si and I did see a couple of adults and a kitt in the daylight during the course of the day so, you might think we were game-on for lamping. Not a thing. My pair were shot at dusk and the early dark. After that it was dead as a doorpost. Another thing though. After Si had left to get home, Andy and I carried on till about 22.00 hrs and a 4wd on the road that passes the field slowed
  13. Hi Andy HW95 all the way! Blisteringly accurate spring rifle you won't be disappointed with. All the best. Simon
  14. Hi Andy old sport. Just finished the account of the day's activities here for everyone to read. Big sympathy mention of it mate but, as I said before, thank Christ it wasn't one of those moments where serious facial injuries result from a snapping-back barrel or fingers getting chopped off! Small comfort for a pain-in-the-arse thing to happen though Andy. And not a friggin rabbit in sight for you and Si to finish on what otherwise was a bloody fantastic day's set-to with long range targets. Heyho never mind mate. When the barley starts coming up then you'll see a difference! See y
  15. Ladies and Gentlemen Settle back, pour yourself something suitable to the hour and gather round your PC, for here is a tale of three intrepid shooting men and a day of extremes, of joy, triumphs, of no small disasters and the finest shooting since that certain American Civil War Army general stuck his head above the ramparts saying; "Ha! They couldn't hit a barn door at this dist.......!" I'd had a really excited gut-feeling that this day was going to be an amazingly special and didn't sleep much for thinking about it. I just knew in my blood and bones this day was going to be somet
  16. Hi Andy, no worries mate. I'm sure we'll meet up someplace one day. I've shot with an S400 left-hander .177 for a whole weekend and found it a lovely rifle to shoot with. It's not the rifles themselves I take issue with. It's the level of reliability is generally poor I find, for a rifle costing over 500 quid and upwards. That is taking the bloody piss if you ask me. Si's R10 is an amazing rifle to shoot with, it really is and I would feel very confident about taking out with me to do some serious long range bunny shooting. I would not balk at taking a 60+ yard head shot because
  17. As with Andy's post above... H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY. is the pellet to try here. If you Weihrauch HW80 is not shooting straight with these, at all ranges then, you have a problem with the rifle. Possibly bent, damaged barrel from accidentally releasing it back under tension of the spring (is the stock split along the wrist or pistol grip?) or internals are not as good or as young as they should be. These H&N pellets are like Nectar to Weihrauch barrels. I have three Weihrauch rifles and they group to one-hole perfection with all of them. RWS Superdomes not shooting straight :
  18. Moley. There is a difference between a brainless wanker accidentally shooting someone (personally, I think thick-twat Cole did it on purpose for a laugh, having no idea of what a pellet from that rifle would actually do) and a bunch of brainless wankers shooting people deliberately. The Police have acted properly. Confiscate the rifle (to be destroyed) and haul these low vermin into the van and up before the beak. The best punishment would be a spell inside and their identities passed to every gunshop RFD on a life-banning list from ever owning or possessing an air rifle or pistol or a
  19. Hear hear Wurzy mate! If I could come back with that little lot after a great day's target practicing with Andy and Si, I'd be a very happy chappy! SPA to you Gary, I always thoroughly enjoy your writ ups after your adventures with yor kid! Long may your shooting be so, lads! Simon
  20. As long as YOU play your part in the accuracy mix and can consistently hit your target vermin through the head at your stated 40-yards max range, your BSA Ultra will put far more accuracy and powerful, humane killing punch at that range to do the job, than you may realise. I can assure you, this or any top quality 12ft/lb rifle like this, with a reliable scope, could easily and humanely kill a rabbit or squirrel clean with a shot to the brain at a good deal more than your maximum effective range, without effort. So, you can rest aside any concerns you may have about adequate humane stoppi
  21. Right, that does it! I'm off up the fields to get this itchy trigger finger satisfied! See you tomorrow 12-noon Si!
  22. My trigger finger's really itching now! It's no good. I'm off up the fields to shoot. See you tomorrow Si. 12-noon!
  23. Cheers Ste mate. I'm getting a seriously itchy trigger-finger thinking about it.
  24. Put like that, you have no option then Ste. You didn't put it over quite so matter-of-factly before pal .
  25. Oh my God it's her ....again! It's alright Ron I'm having serious issues with myself over buying a BSA R10 since shooting with Si's .22 customised version the other day. Yours looks bloody lovely too, especially as it's a full-length one, I think, by the look of the pics. My compliments on getting out early and doing the business. A good bag, well shot mate . Simon
