  1. That's really nice of you to say Si. It was a real pleasure for us to have you over to shoot with us both in the springtime and share our various knowledge and skills together. I sincerely hope you are enjoying your Canadian tour with your Regiment and it's living up to expectation. Come visit us when you are home again in the UK and bring Laura along. We'd be delighted to meet her too! All the best to you both:thumbs: Simon
  2. Now that just makes me scared of hawke scopes, i'm not getting one !! I've never zeroed my .22 HW77/Hawke 6-18X44 SR12 combo through my arse before but, I'll give anything a try once Simon
  3. That's a kind thought for us Lefties Chris. I know Henry Kranke's shop well. It's over in Pudsey so, I'll have a wander over and see what's in. Might be a bargain to barter for. Thanks mate. Simon
  4. Coming in late on this as my laptop went on the fritz a few days ago. Well it wasn't a rabbit shoot-fest as I hoped for but, it was lovely to have my two good friends over and a weekend away with the guns, plenty of ammo and some wonderful food namely, the most delicious spiced and seasoned rabbit stew and rice I've ever tasted; (thanks Paul!)and good beers and whiskey around a roaring campfire. It is a beautiful place to shoot I have here but, it's been shot to hell over many a year now, along with all other manner of things as Andy has described. See a rabbit here and if you
  5. This is one of those passing phases Peter. Even I can't be arsed sometimes; especially at the moment on my permission as it seems bloody dead of anything to shoot at the moment but, you get the bit between your teeth to be out again. Put your guns away and do something else for a while. You'll come back at some point. ATB Simon
  6. :headshot:: happy Birthday Gary lad. :clapping: Have many happy returns mate. :alcoholic: Simon
  7. Hi Shepp. As Wurz says with his suggestions, you don't need much other than a good padded support for your forearm to take the weight of your rifle comfortably through your hand and forearm and allow you a steady aiming platform.. I use a beany seat which stays reasonably put as you shoot off it. A rolled up blanket stuffed into a rucksack is good too. Simon
  8. Hello John. With air rifle barrel cleaning, I guess it may vary from barrel to barrel and the pellet types used. I use only ever use one type of pellet for my .22 Weihrauch HW80 rifles and that's H&N Field Target Trophy, washed and lightly lubed with WD40. I rarely clean my barrels more than once a year as I don't get accuracy problems with these rifles' barrels/lubed pellets and they are both ten years old. "If it ain't broke....!" etc. With your Father's HW35, it wouldn't hurt to get the barrel scrubbed and re-lead with the pellet of choice, once it's ready for a bit of regular use
  9. The best pellet in the world, is the one that suits your rifle barrel better than any other
  10. My HW80K carbine is running at 19.6 ft/lbs at last chrono reading. I have two. The other is a longer barrelled standard HW80 which is beautifully accurate and smooth at this level on my licence. It has only just needed a broken spring replaced after more than 10 years and thousands of shots with it. I wouldn't want them higher. This level suits the FAC HW80 perfectly. I will not give any further advice on tuning your HW80 to this level here. I'm sure you'll understand why. But it is a fallacy to suggest the HW80 spring rifle is only good at this level of power. I've shot with mine lon
  11. Nothing bad with a Titan and proper tuning Steve. I've used one for years in my FAC-tuned .22 HW80 and she's been a formidably accurate, very powerful hunter. It's not about shoving a higher performance spring into the cylinder and that's all there is. Ox, however have something of a pretty poor performance record in a lot of spring rifles. For HW80s at normal sub 12 ft/lb power limits, go to Hull Cartridge, TR Robb, Chambers Airgun Spares, V-Mach/Venom kits or, try Sandwell Field Sports who do some amazing springs for tuning quality spring rifles.
  12. Well done Ryan. Just the sort of spirit that makes it great here! All the best. Simon
  13. Aww I don't know which would be tastiest. Both pidgeon breast pie and curry are absolutely delicious with a bit of chopped spring onion Looks beautiful Davy. Well shot and Bon Appetite! Simon
  14. What happens when the electronics in the trigger pack up? In a rifle no more accurate than my HW77 spring rifle? I would want to know about how reliably long-lived and well made are the electronic components in the trigger. If the performance-life of the rifle is determined by the life of electronic circuit boards in it's trigger, I'd look at another rifle. I'm getting expensive gimmick with limited life-span here
  15. Get hold of Hull Cartridge. They import and distribute Weihrauch into the UK. They'll help you out. The other lads will know links to airgun spares dealers and gunsmiths who'll have just what you are looking for. If you have an FAC the best spring I've known for an HW80 at higher performance on-ticket is a Titan. Simon
  16. Hi Craig. I'm so sorry to read of this terrible event within your family. I hope you find the closure you seek for yourself and everyone close to you. With deepest sympathy. Simon
  17. Have to agree with Craig/Buster. Without flocking to kiss his arse! It was a good bit of harmless fun and a bit of a piss take without going over the top. We should be able to laugh at ourselves now and again when someone points it up. Just surprised you didn't use Rocket on your shooting foray! I really like the look of that 17HMR rig Chimp; is it yours?. That's the way for my shooting to go with the increasing numbers of foxes as well as long range rabbits I'm seeing on my shoot. Simon
  18. I'm fine with all that goes on so long as people know when to quit from taking things too seriously or becoming too personal or insulting. Disagreement is healthy. We all have our views and opinions as we have our various levels of experience. The tricky bit is that writing down what we want to say, with the same emphasis as we use to speak in face-to-face conversation is not always taken in the same, true context. If you agree with something, fine, say so and why. If not, fine again; say so and why. Let's stimulate debate and opinion. But, generally, don't lose sight of the fact that thi
  19. Gotta say, you have me there Archie, I would mate! Jeez dude, your avatars get better and better! Si
  20. Hi Oakey. Truth is, an awful lot of people are very ignorant of the true qualities of a decent air rifle, its actual power and just how potent a nicely set-up sub 12/ft-lb air rifle actually is. They are also full of bullshit about what they think can and cannot do with one. These people just never learned how to shoot correctly and believe that power alone is what gets the pellet to a long range target. Few spring air rifles are capable of higher performance tuning and still retaining precision accuracy. The Weihrauch HW80 can take a Titan tune to around 20ft/lbs and retain supe
  21. About 50 shots will see it running-in right. It's not very heavy at all. I don't wish to sound rude but, where the heck does 9lbs or a bit more with scope, suddenly become very heavy? It's nowt' much! I have a TX200HC .177 stocked in the most beautiful Walnut you ever saw and it's a lethal rabbit killer. Just waiting on a new spring after ten years of faultless shooting with it! Simon
  22. RWS Diana 54 is well known as the 54 AIRKING Mike. It's a fixed-barrel sidelever that's been around a good number of years now. I've done a bit of shooting with it and it's very nice all round. Air Arms TX200SR (=Semi Recoiless) was the best of the "Sliding-sledge" recoil dampening system the 54' features. That rifle was a real heavyweight beauty, alas no longer made by Air Arms. John Whiscombe did indeed hand-build-to-order a recoiless spring rifle with twin spring two-way pistons. Very effective, superbly accurate but, very expensive. Well over £1,000 per rifle. He still builds it I bel
  23. If you are asking as to whether or not they are suitable for your rifle fella, you need to buy a tin and try em. They may be great , they may be naff . You have to try em' and give em' a fair old go, in order to find out for sure, yourself. Pianoman
  24. You also seem to have forgotten to include the link Mike I can't see it on your thread! I take it this is another take on the 18th Century vintage Lewis & Clark expedition air rifle that Girandoni built?
  25. Hi Ryan. Because there is a world of difference between cycling the bolt on an FAC tuned PCP and actually cocking a break barrel spring rifle with an FAC tune and a high performance spring in the cylinder. Have you ever tried to cock a break barrel spring rifle like an HW80K tuned to 19.5 ft/lbs? I do, I own an HW80 on ticket to that level of power. It's a noticeably heavier, much firmer cocking effort than a sub 12ft/lb rifle, when you begin shooting with it. After 30-40 shots and more, it's really an armful of cocking effort. An HW80 is a beautiful rifle to shoot with at higher power i
