  1. That was as quick as my thinking could come up with on the spot Tony. But I'll remember these you sent in! :boogy:It's bound to happen again on my permission. Plenty of silly buggers like her yomping around our valley like they own the thing!. Great to see you here again mate Simon
  2. One thing you can try is to accurately measure out the ranges; 5 to 50 metres say, in 5-metre increments with a tape and set your scope to focus as sharply as you can on each one and mark it on your scope focus ring. I use a fine brush of Humbrol enamel light grey and a masking taped, very fine strip-line, defined by two edges of masking tape, on the mark. Voila! Instant range finding and paralax setting! Simon
  3. Considering 579 FPS is 11.4 Ft/lbs, 810 seems more than a bit low for a .22 FAC Patriot. They could deliver well over 20 up to 30ft/lbs when they were new or well tuned and run-in. It's an elderly gun now, from the great heyday of Webley & Scot. This one sounds like it's definately in need of an overhaul. I had one in the mid 90s and I found it a lovely rifle. Hits hard and very accurate for its time. Well worth restoring if you have the ticket Terrierman. Simon.
  4. That's definately a most unwell HW77 Torchey. If you shot with mine, you'd never give it back! Dieselling occurs when an excess of lube oil is ignited in areas where actual massive air compression is released into the breech. Like the transfer port, inside the breech or behind the pellet itself. It results in a surge of power and a stream of blue smoke. Both of which is not doing your shooting or your rifle any favours. Thanks for your compliments on my thread and get in touch with Andy here. He'll have it sorted out and shooting perfectly in no time. Simon
  5. Isn't that a famous old Hunt in Leicestershire?
  6. I was once out on my shoot and a woman rambler from the nature reserve trail that my permission borders with, saw me taking my rifle out of it's bag and, as I was slipping my jacket on, she bounded over...;(Why do these buggers always carry a pack and a staff?) "I bet you must be so proud of yourself. Off to track down and shoot some weak, defenceless animal!!!" "On the contrary madam...I replied, "I wouldn't know where your husband is or what he looked like in a million years!" Left her fuming speechless. True story! Simon
  7. I know love; we are such cruel rotten thoughtless aren't we! While we are about it. Why don't we just buy our petrol at the garage pump, instead of plundering the Earth's natural oil resources? (Bet it was written by a mad bloody woman) I give up!
  8. Hi 123HW80. What did you use to stain your HW80 stock? Dry it off thoroughly and resand with progressively finer grades of sandpaper. Give the stock a dip of Nitromorse to clean out the last dirty impurity. Dry thoroughly. Then use a gunsmith's approved stock oil like Nikkerson's English Walnut Stock Oil Preparation. Hand rubbing it deep into the grain with your heel of your palm. Keep repeating untill the oil shines the stock and lets the natural beauty of the wood breathe Simon
  9. Chris/Thursodog, thanks for your kind response and welcome to the best section of all mate I have an HW80 standard and an HW80K pair in .22 calibre and they are both FAC tuned with Titan springs to around 20 ft/lbs. They shoot a dream on H&N Field Target Trophy. Washed and lightly lubed with a thin coat of WD40. I'm so often tempted to get back to rimfire and centrefire rifles but, these HW80s are amazingly accurate and reliable workhorses for everything I'm likely to encounter on my permission and really all I need for when a hard hitting, accurate shot is needed. They are a
  10. This I must see. Well done Mike. Tell your missus to bog off. This is your moment to shine BIG FELLA!!!! :clapper: Simon I didn't know you had any street cred! Well I haven't seen evidence of any.. LOL Aww Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary!
  11. Jesus Andy is this instruction on turd polishing now?!! BSA Frightning' That's a tuned Lightning with the accuracy removed. [quote name='markha' timestamp='1317660582' BSA FRIGHTNIN' ?????
  12. Gentlemen. Thanks to you all, each one of you, for the really kind words you have wriiten in response to this. Deano's a top lad and would be a credit to the forum meets and shooting days. Davy it'll be a pleasure mate You'll be welcome to come train up here with me whenever you can! We'll get a course laid out and work on your trajectory map for the rifle. The breezes are variable so, it will be a good work out for you. You are a really fine shot mate so, it won't take much to get you singing in tune with your TX200HC. Gary (Festa) I'd be honoured to visit you and Daryl mat
  13. All good and correct answers above. I'd buy a pair of Sportsmatch mounts which are superbly made and spirit level the rifle; then adjust the scope for your perfect eye relief and finally centre the reticle with a second spirit level to the rilfle's bore. Any sidewards strike of shot off the centre horizontal is a sign that something is off-centre and canting or tilting over. Simon
  14. Dean that is so kind of you to say me young master! Daz that's very kind of you to say these things too :icon_redface: Andy is unquestionably one of the finest air rifle shots and airgun technical boffins I've come across in many a long while. We have some fantastic times out when the weather allows us to go at some bloody mental distance targets! It is a gift of this forum that there are seriously talented marksmen such as youself, Andy, Markha, Davyt63 and zini, Marksman, Festa and Wurz, Bill/Sweeney Todd and others who put themselves forwards and put their knowledge on the table a
  15. Excellent work Daz. Really hasn't taken you long to get into this aspect of the sport. Not something I could do with a spring rifle! Great shot mate. Let's see more of them! Simon
  16. I'm sorry Stefaan but, this sounds strange that you can have extremely powerful air rifles and yet, you are not allowed to shoot small game vermin like rabbits with them. It looks as though you'll have to soldier on fabricating parts and tuning rifles as best you can. I know something of Boar and deer shooting in the Ardennes forests myself so, it baffles me the more so as to why the Belgian government has a down on hunting rabbit with an air rifle of considerable muzzle energy. I would suggest you still get in touch with HM Customs UK who will better clarify the situation regarding you b
  17. Then it looks like you've answered your own question here matey. As one who shoots with both FAC and sub 12 FPE air rifles, I can honestly tell you it is ACCURACY ALONE that determines range precision. NOT power. Any fool can blast one off a mile! What distances are you shooting rabbits, knock-down metal targets or tin friggin' cans at? This is bollocks. I'll not buy the line that you guys are shooting at greater ranges with greater precision. Otherwise, why bother with an air rifle when you can have a decent Rimfire for less money and parts headaches? Doesn't make sense Stefaan!
  18. Stefaan you seem intent on going around a field in order just to get across it! This thread was titled about buying FAC power air rifles from Britain. You then tell us about how nearly impossible it is to buy a 12FPE gun in Belgium. Nothing was mentioned about Brococks or any other make? So, why don't you just go direct to the UK manufacturers, like Brocock, and ask them about purchasing and shipping a particular gun, or spare parts specific for them, to your country? If the answer is No, there will be reasons why and these will explained to you. Usually, it is about lack of Firearms
  19. Why is a 12ft/lb air rifle so expensive in Belgium, you need to go to the expense of buying via a UK dealer...then you ask about buying/exporting FAC power rifles from England, when apparently, you should be falling over the bloody things from your own country????. Does Belgian Law limit or even prohibit the ownership of a 12ft/lb air rifle? It's not so much about parts as tuning them. HMMMM :hmm: What exactly is the purpose of your post here old chum ? If you live in a European country that allows you unlimited access to unlimited power air rifles....Why is 12 FPE such an issue
  20. Something a bit different to consider Dean. What about a beautiful walnut stock from Custom Stock of Sheffield for that HW77 of yours? That's about £300 of you budget but, they make a truly fabulous quality stock for your rifle. Another £70 to have the rifle tuned by Sandwell Field Sports' Tony Wall. He'll turn an amazingly accurate air rifle into a one-hole hitting masterpiece of a rifle. And finally, a new scope for it. What you'll end up with is a smooth-as-silk, phenominally accurate, bespoke, customised hunting air rifle that ANYONE here would be proud to own. That's what I
  21. Give Theoben a ring and ask them what ambi/LH stocks they made for it. That will give you a guide as to what to hunt for. I'm certain they made such a stock for this rifle. Simon.
  22. Well done though Daz mate! I've had a lot of chat with Si Pittaway about scopecams and I know from him, it's not so straightforward, sighting through the camera screen and shooting accurately with it. Tryt to find a way to straighten up the reticle in the view now. It looks a bit hard to watch a canting reticle because I want to "spirit level" the scope in the mounts! Gary here (Festa) started out just the same way but, now, he makes amazingly good vids through his scope! But, for a first go? Brilliant! Keep going with it mate and show us what you can do . Simon
