Now this is what shooting and hunting with an air rifle is all about to me. Great write up and pics of your bags with your spring rifles Stuart . I've shot and hunted with spring rifles since I was eight years old. I saw the first pre-charged rifles come in and they were very exciting to my young eyes by what they promised. They turned out to be very unnaffordable and disapointingly, unreliable; prone to all manner of faults and breakdowns. Even the weather and a bit of dirt sent many a frustrated shooter off the field before time up. Today of course, they are a different story and w

HAWKE ENDURANCE 30. IR. 3-9X42 riflescope.
pianoman replied to pianoman's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Hi Lewis. I've found this model of mine is not quite well focused at short ranges on full mag till you get to about 30-metres range, after playing about with the reticle focus ring on the eyebell. Below that range you need to use lower mag settings like 6 to get the most benefit. And it won't rangefind or correct paralax shift so, you have to ensure your eye's line of sight through the tube and reticle is centred correctly. But once you find the best focus and set it on 6xmag it provides a beautifully crisp sightpicture at all ranges. I'm itching to give it a proper hunting session on m -
Just had a look at the Weihrauch website. They've issued a re-designed stock for the HW77 in beech with a flared and fluted forestock. The gripcap and white spacers have gone but it looks a beautiful stock, deserving for such a phenominally accurate spring rifle and I'd love one. It would fit the HW97 perfectly too. it would look stunning in black synthetic with a polished metal-finished rifle as with the HW97. That would make a fabulous HFT rifle in .177. www.wiehrauch-sport.de Simon

I'd say a Weihrauch HW80 or HW77 or 97K in this calibre would make a fantastic rat and rabbit rifle. I'm certainly interested after reading Si's recent foray with this calibre at sub-12 ft/lbs. Regards. Simon

Weihrauch behind the scenes video
pianoman replied to Skot Ruthless Teale's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
This is Mecca for me. Weihrauch make some legendary sporting air rifles that are just beautiful to shoot with and own. Love em! Simon -
Down to 12 inches or yet more off...pheww. If you're certain that's going to work for your needs John, then all the best for it. I just did not have the happy outcome I was looking for and I just wish to warn our friend here that, this is by no means a sure-fire improving mod to make. You sure that won't leave you with cocking issues? Best regards mate. Simon

Barrel cleaning..... I may have been wrong!!
pianoman replied to andyfr1968's topic in General Airgun Discussion
So am I mate! Too good a shot for personal faults is our Andy. You've been having accuracy issues for a fair time with your rifle. Glad it's resolved. Bill, I'm going to try your methods of barrel cleaning with my springers. Simple, to the point and works everytime is what I like. And I hope you are in better health. Great to see your responses to posts again. Regards to you both lads. Simon -
Nice one Hoff! See what you think when you have this old ' back to high standards again but, if you have a real one-hole tack-driver like mine, why ruin it? For me, the venerable HW80 and 80K were just perfect the day they left the factory and need no further cosmetic chopping! All the best with it and let's have a look at how she turns out sometime . Sure mate. She says hello back! No one else then...? -
To be honest, in the light of the sound advice already tended. DON'T CHOP THAT HW80 BARREL. Full-length HW80 barrels are designed to perform to their optimum at the lengths from the factory. I once had professionally chopped and crowned four inches from an ' full-length barrel in the name of "fashionable" ease of handling. The work was done superbly well and properly finished...But, it never performed quite as well as it was before. Buy an 80K barrel from Hull Cartridge if you need shorter length but, I do not see the wisdom in ruining a precision made barrel for the sake of any

Spring piston rifle vermin control with Si Pittaway and Davy Thomas
pianoman replied to zini's topic in Airgun Hunting
Hi Dean. These are blisteringly accurate in .22cal and all my Weihrauch barrels love them so. I think H&N FTT in .177 should be just as accurate for your HW97K Regards. Simon. -

Hi Andy. I'm away here at Helen's till next Monday. But we can sort out a meet-up next week after? I know you'll like this scope mate. Reminds me of that sweet little Luger scope you had. Simon -
Anyone from near selby, yorkshire, yo88hx?
pianoman replied to weekend.rifle's topic in Airgun Hunting
Hi Tony. I'd like to join you if I may? I'm from Pontefract, not far from you. 'Afraid I use only spring rifles but, I'm a half-decent shot and I know a bit of fieldcraft. Maybe we could get your game bag a bit fuller! PM me your contact details and I'll call you when I'm back up in W. Yorks! All the best. Simon -
YES!

Gentlemen. I've just aquired the above scope from Redbeck Shooting Supplies Wakefield. Seems a very nice, small, lightweight and compact optic, with a "German Post and Four " or European 4A reticle, with an illuminated dot which I really like, It's no longer made by Hawke and Deben have removed it from their lists. However, I think it will sit nicely with my TX200 MkIII .22 rifle for medium range hunting in low light around the 25 to 35 metre mark. I just wondered if anyone among us has had experience of, or, still owns one of these and what they might think of them? Simon

Sorry I cannot join you this weekend Davy as Helen has made arrangements for me to be elsewhere while I'm down in beautiful Wiltshire this week. I'd love to have had a workout on this old airsporter with you. I reckon there's still a great gun in need of a bit of TLC here. All the best and hope to catch up with you soon mate. Simon

I might be interested in the HW80 if you are intending on selling it after refurb Darryl?. I have a mint condition Left Hand HW80 stock and I'd like to add another HW80 to my collection. Especially if it's .177 and a full-length version. But a .22 Karbine model will be just as welcome. AndyFR1968 is after a Right hand stock for an HW80 project I gave him so, there might be a deal here all round All the best mate. Simon

Self Reliant Airgunning - Pellet Production
pianoman replied to milegajo's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Amazing read this Milegajo. I've often wondered if it were possible to produce one's own pellets in bulk for practical spring rifle hunting. It's the consistant, accurate production from a dye, of a round perfectly suited to the barrel that has always confounded me. There's a world of difference between producing ball ammunition from a molding tong for long barrel, powder-burning flint lock rifles and muskets and producing a precision air rifle pellet from a dye but, the motive behind your actions is the same. If you can succeed in making your own ammo that meets all your requirements -
Skot you don't know what your missing...! You'd enjoy shooting live cartridge full-bore.

A perfect example of time spent practicing is time well spent. Great write up Craig and top shooting mate. 53 yards perfect headshot in a sidewind is no mean feat Your MFR looks a meaty piece of no-nonesense kit too. All the best to you. Simon

Hi mate. Respects to you here Daz this is a great little bag for your time out on your gun. Has your experience with shooting an air rifle well, paid off with shooting with a shotgun to this standard? Often I'm thinking of getting another shotgun or rimfire but, it's still the greatest challenge to go hunting with a spring air rifle and so I remain a dedicated airgunner. By the way I lived in Whitchurch near Aylesbury for about 6 years and had a cracking bit of pidgeon shooting where my house and garden just happened to have two acres of forest with it! Great to see you here mate

Spring piston rifle vermin control with Si Pittaway and Davy Thomas
pianoman replied to zini's topic in Airgun Hunting
It amazes me how Si and Davy puts together a bloody good and informative hunting DVD and then, the bloody armchair critics turn up with the irresistable urge to start quoting the airgun press as a friggin' gospel that, woe betide anyone who tries to go beyond the frontier!!. BOLLOCKS! The stated 30 to 35-yard hunting range maxim is reasoned by the airgun press as a safe yet high enough hunting standard; as it is they who rightly, have a duty to promote safe, responsible shooting among its readership; all of who will have wildly varying levels of skill and quality of kit. And so, 3
