  1. I thought we made a decent semi-final out of that game, eh, Adam? Good to see service cap-badge rivalry is still alive and well then! You don't want to listen to the Artillery son. They shoot from miles away and they need everything they hear played LOUD! Join the RAF Regiment kiddo. You'll get a real comfy bed to sleep in, your Flt Sgt will serve you a nice cuppa in the morning and you eat with a real metal knife and fork in a comfy mess! And still get to jump out of a perfectly good, servicable aircraft and play like the Paras do! Bags of shooting opportunities in foreign
  2. It's empty Craig! Whachoo want?
  3. Ahh I have had 18...all at the same time. It started with a Webley my Australian Aunt gave me and it just went on from there. I got a job after leaving school and that lead to a few more Webleys at first. I didn't think it would do any harm.... Until ...gulp...the Germans came on the scene with their stuff and that got me totally hooked. I couldn't pass a gunshop without breaking into a cold sweat, raging thirst and a left forefinger I could not keep from itching. But, with a little therapy, I cut down gradually to five. And, thanks to my good friend and servicing guy AndyFR1968 who convince
  4. Excellent. Good to hear of a shop and the guy behind the counter that treats you with respect and courtesy. We all had to start somewhere at some point with everything in our lives and without real know-how to begin with. At least Gaz you now have somewhere to go for your rifle and kit with confidence in the guy at the shop! I would refuse to do business with anyone who treated me, or anyone like a fool just because I wasn't so clued-in at first. Best regards. Pianoman.
  5. Hi HMR Hunter. I think it likely you will opt for a PCP which come into their own for long range rabbit control on FAC level performance. In which case a Theoben Rapid, Daystate Air Wolf or Air Arms S410 EXTRA FAC would more than meet your expectations. Around 30ft/lbs-plus for these rifles but, the downside of FAC PCP rifles are the limited number of shots per fill due to the amount of air used to fire each shot. The higher the muzzle energy the less shots per fill. The thing with FAC air is not so much the range, but the pellet speeds at which you can kill humanely with a head shot.
  6. Si you are giving me your Hawke Airmax scope? I'm just blown away!! That is just wonderful. I can't say "thank you" enough. Er..PM sent! Thank you seems an inadequate response Si but. Thank You sincerely from the bottom of my heart. I will treasure it and use it, as you know I will. Love and warmest regards to you and Laura both. Simon
  7. By the way Chris/thursodog. What about an HW85 or HW95 for your youngest boy? Both are small and light enough for a young lad to get to grips with and either will be still be a potent rifle as he grows in age and experience. All the very best to you mate. Simon
  8. 5 to 55 yards will be fine for me Davy and it will be a breeze for Si! I think we can all squeeze a .22 pellet through 15mm. I will be shooting by pure judgement and instinct from a basic zero as my Hawke SR12 scope has bitten the dust..literally!..So it's my good and faithful old Simmons Whitetail Classic 4.5-14x40mm AO with 30-30 reticle unless I can find a replacement SR12. But, it's sighting brilliantly on my Weihrauch HW77 .22. So I'm not unduly worried exactly! But, whatever. The main thing is, I think it will be good to demonstrate and compare performances of accuracy between
  9. Great shooting Stuart. That's one of the early, original HW80 rifles that I had, judging by the stock. Shows how well top quality rifles work on when others will have fallen to bits. Fantastic rifle. I just love em! Regards. Simon
  10. Smartly done there Daz mate. Your rig is looking very nice indeed. ATB. Simon
  11. Hi Si. I knew you'd be up for this! I'd be delighted to do it with you mate. I cannot make the October meet alas due to work commitment but, I would make arrangement with you, perhaps at Davy's club and we could set up and shoot there. A comparative zero group and range accuracy demo would be good to show the sceptics that a well-sorted spring rifle, .177 or .22 is just as accurate as a PCP with correct hold technique employed. Then use it to shoot a series of target challenges. (Not that bloody tunnel! I only clonked whatever the metal target was in that thing!) Choice of PCPs and y
  12. Well I've read this with an open mind and I found it an encouraging and informative review with a real-world hunting application. Great writing and shooting Miles! But, what I am really reading back, seems to me, the end result of a skillful marksman and fieldsman getting the most out of what I might describe as an "adequate" rifle at best. I can see the arguments both Miles and Mawders have put forth. I also think there is an element of 'necessity being the mother of invention' with Miles' situation. Neither myself or anyone I know of here has to eat to live by what we shoot as much as Miles
  13. You and me both Daz. By the time I've got the bloody thing switched on I could be tightening up my group on the second target
  14. Try again if you want to ask me something Books. I've cleared out my inbox. HW95 will not let you down I assure you! Simon
  15. There's nothing wrong with Chairgun, Gentlemen, I've used it myself and it works.. In conjunction with a Hawke scope with an SR12 reticle and a little of your own know-how, brewed from experience, it can be astonishing...for as long as your rifle is maintaining the FPS Chrono reading you originally set it by. And that can change at any time. So it's not a perfect science that can be reduced to a formula for precision accuracy; and your shooting still remains an art as much as anything. But as FPS power/chrono readings change and the Point Of Impact on your reticle changes as a resul
  16. Chris, I'd bet money you could outshoot a PCP with an HW80. There isn't one of these things made yet that would remotely faze me and my HW77 .22. Not even in Si Pttaway's hands. And he's a man I have utmost respect and admiration for. (That would be a hell of a vid to film Si!) My dad was the absolute best rifle shot I ever knew of. He always said that; "If the rifle has to do all the work, it has mastered you. ...That cannot be allowed to happen!". A lot of PCP lads have allowed that to happen without realising it. Get your boys springrifle shooting. It will teach them t
  17. Hi Books. Oh dear me you seem to have worked youself into a bit of a corner. I'd have thought a Weihrauch HW95 was the perfect solution to the problem you have Books. It's light and superbly accurate and manageable. And it will shred that Gamo-built BSA for breakfast in a capable pair of hands. Weihrauch HW98 is another option. Same gun exactly as the HW95 but with a shrouded bull-barrel and a fully adjustable stock (this could well be the one for you!). Let's be honest. Springers do not weigh a ton. Unless you really do have some form of severe disability in your arms and shoulder
  18. what does that mean pal? I work in a supermarket..not the army lol Only joking Skot. It's an RAF Disciplinary order. For handling a weapon "dangerously" (Like your apparent shooting of your furniture!) you were put on a "252". Or a "Fizzer". That's a disciplinery charge written on an RAF Form252. Usually the punishment was "Jankers". Basically fatigues, spud bashing, cleaning the bogs, sweeping the guardroom out and kit inspection.
  19. I didn't say anything about sitting on my arse and not do anything Tony. I've sat on my arse, instead.... and writen to both Cameron at No.10 my MP Yvette Cooper this morning. I want her to raise this in the house and ask why the RM are threatening to damage an industry worth well over a billion quid a year to the treasury. Have you taken a closer look at the people who govern you? That incompetent liar Cameron and his feckless Eton school Fag Clegg don't give a toss for shooting or those of us that enjoy it. It's the money it makes is all they'd care about. So that's where you
  20. Seconded Tony But it's a bit rough to read of some worthless rat preying on a keen youngster's trust and enthusiasm with way over-priced piles of tat; and that is low and disgusting to me. Don't you worry JSB lad, anything you are not certain of, or want to know more about something, you just come here and ask us first before you act. I promise you mate, we'll only tell you how it honestly is and what you can and cannot honestly do.. Seems you've got off to a good start getting a permission so young and no mention of the rifle you have use of already, to go hunt with. You do
  21. Gentlemen. If I may add to this interesting thread... If you do not have frequent access to a computer Or Chairgun seems a bit baffling. Don't despair. This is my method of Trajectory Mapping; I've used it for more years than I know of and it never fails me. In a nutshell. The whole point of Trajectory Mapping is to clearly establish in your mind, exactly where your pellet is actually flying-to and hitting, when shot down range, at varying and accurately paralaxed target range distances in your scope. That's all there really is to it. So, beginning with an accurate read-out on
