Thanks for the advice folks...... I had a walk round the in-laws farm today with the .22 but took the dog along on a lead anyhow. I crept up to a wall at the top of the farm and had a look over, there was about 10 rabbit's grazing close to the wood, anyhow I got 1 with a clean shot. 1 in the bag. Walked a few more fields and saw a lone rabbit on a hill side, me and the dog crept up to within about 50yds and popped that one off too, but this time the rabbit was frigging about a bit, as it was a chest shot,, the dog was wanting in on the action, so I slipped her and she nailed it as it was

Evening folks, Finished work at 10pm last night and thought i'd take my young dog out for a butchers out in fields behind the house. She hasn't caught a rabbit for herself yet. I've been giving her plenty of chance's but it just hasn't happened yet..... Anyhow had a quick shine and saw a rabbit out in the middle of the field, i walked upto it with the lamp on it, got to about 4feet and it bolted, i slipped the dog and she was after it sharpish. The rabbit ran behind a tree flat out and the dog lost its footing and slipped into the tree with a loud thud.I thought i was in4 a trip to the vet

so many different opinions about different crosses
hargreavesheber replied to kelly14's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Oreyt fella.. I was asking all the same questions that you have been asking about 10 months ago, as it was my 1st lurcher and i didnt have a clue.... I too was thinking along the lines of grey x whip, but after plenty of advice off here i saw a add in the CountryMan's Weekly for my dog. Her sire is a Whippet and Dam was a Bedlington x collie greyhound. Havent done too much with her yet, but showing plenty of interest in the job. She's just under 20",. Not dissapointed at all.. Good luck with choosing a dog... -
Very annoying habit from pup, ant suggestions??

Mine did that too fella, as soon as she saw some one, she'd run to them and jump up! Not good when dog was shit up...! All i did was, start from the home, don't let em jump up at you or family, if they do, correct it straight away. Don't give any attention until the dogs calmed down! Mine is reyt when out now at 12months old. A good recall helps too. Good luck.. -

Is your dog used to ferrets mate if so just enter the ferrets and dont put no nets down let the dog run them or if you can put nets down get the rabbit take it in to the middle of the field with the dog and let it go and see what happens mate atb Thats the main prob fella, they vanish into the wood and theres no holes in sight. and on another part of the farm they live down a Badger set, doubt my ferrets would come out there in 1 piece. cheers -

Morning folks, Had quite a lot of advice off you folks over the past 8 months of having my 1st lurcher. Bit more required please.... My dog is good on the dummy, and is very sharp on with a tennis ball now, grabbign it on the 1st pass 95% of the time. She's had a couple of dropped uns, and did rather well for a 1st attempt, retrieving and quick onto them.. My problem being is that my father in laws farm has a lot of woodland, drystone walls etc. There is quite a lot of bunnys knocking about, but they always seem to stay quite close to the walls and fences, dashing under and th

The written permission is neither here nor there. You'll be given a "closed" certificate first off, which means you can only shoot on land that has been checked and approved by the firearms officer for the relevant area. A lot of farms are already checked, so your first port of call will be the firearms licencing department of the area the land lies in. They will be able to tell you if the land is already approved. If it's not then you will need to wait for the FEO to come and check it before you can shoot it. If you have a lot of permissions, then you will probably be able to apply for the re

If its you're 1st FAC, the firearms lot will prob have to have written permission off the land owners to say you can shoot there, maybe a farm visit. when they are confident you are safe with a firearm, you can apply for a OPEN CERTIFICATE, which gives you the right to go on any land with the land owners permission. As for the cabinet. I think you'll be ok, as long as you're the only key holder.. Foxes will drop with a .22, but it is illegal to shoot fox with a .22 rimfire in England and Wales.. Only illegal when you're caught of course.....

Took my air rifle to inlaws farm today..... Had a walk up the farm lane, which is heavily wooded at each side. I pair of squirrels were collecting food off the floor. They saw me before i could get close enough and vanished up an oak tree just off the lane... I had a good look up into the tree and saw the dam thing squat tight to a branch... Put rifle up and dropped the sucker.. 1st squirrel for the Stingray!!!!
