Everyone has a different opinion on this....Heres mine.. Pups feed together from birth usually until at least 8 weeks old, it is natural for them to want to keep whatever food they have in front of them...The other pups would snatch it away in a heartbeat given half a chance... So that behavior is IMO normal (at that age)....They need to unlearn that shit fast..... I have read two ways of unlearning that shit, first one (which I did, and worked!) was at feeding time put an empty bowl in front of the pup, and slowly put its food in one by one.Take the odd one out of the bowl, then put it

Variation For A Foxing Riffle
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to dicky das's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Why would a centre fire round be anymore dangerous if it went astray? When applying for my FAC I originally applied for a .17hmr because of what I had heard about .22lr ricocheting, he said to me,"rubbish!, It doesn't matter even if it does riccochet because you won't be shooting near/or toward anything that may be of concern anyway!" Made sense to me....and I understand what your saying alsone, but it makes no difference, It's all on the shooter IMO. If you had an accident and was being held accountable for your actions, you wouldnt say it's the fault of the calibre, there will -
I had two, two weeks ago, for £100 each from "parking eye"....(hotel car park)...They went in the bin.....See what happens....
-
Was it a private car park with an independent company like parking eye that issued the fine? Or was it a council owned car park?
-
Was it a council ticket or something from parking eye type thing?

Haha... I would fart and blow it away ...But seriously, are they affected by the wind? Compared to .223?

Sounds like a girls gun to me....

If I had a few thousand acres of prime permission I'd bring a couple on... But its hard enough ducking and diving to get enough runs for one dog...

Legal Use Of Shot Guns?
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to whipbed's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I don't like people seeing me with guns if I can help it. Too many "do gooders" and antis about. Not worth the hassle... If I did ever have words with someone while out shooting, the first thing I would do is put my gun in a slip and second would be get my phone out and film everything. I'm not loosing my FAC over what some numpty might say... -
Nice work moxy. Walshie, me and my mate shoot out of a truck but there a few spots worth checking on our perm which is easier to jump a fence rather than drive. We have a sticks bungeed under the shooting platform on top of the truck. 2 18mm dowles from b&q and a couple of heavy duty elastic bands 6 inches from the top... I think we have shot 4 or 5 this season using them..

220 Swift Vs .223
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to John Lewis's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks slipper, I tried the 40s but to be honest we are sub 200m 99% of the time as we struggle to ID them past that distance on the lamp... So if all I have to worry about is a 4 inch drop at 200m, I'm happy with that. The 55grn vmax have served me well so far... Point and shoot to 150ish with an inch high zero at 100m... -
220 Swift Vs .223
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to John Lewis's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well after shooting my .223 and Johns .220 swift at least once a week since September we have accounted for 45 foxes so far...Two different nights have seen 10 in the bag, one night of 5 and the rest 2s 3s and a few 4s, To anyone reading this and wanted to hear an account of the differences between the two calibres from someone who has shot both and zeroed both side by side, here it is... The swift is noticeably faster and shoots much flatter than the .223, with both rifles using 55grn rounds, zeroed an inch high at 100m, the swift is bang on bullseye at 200 whereas the .223 drops 4 in -
But you can believe they'd be as game as a good Bull x? Can't comment on that part as I've not witnessd any bull lurcher work.. I have a saluki lurcher and a deerhound lurcher. Both got great feet but I think the saluki lurcher has slightly stronger tighter feet. But the stamina is worlds apart... My ol deerhound lurcher has some bedlington blood in him so is game enough to get me in trouble! Lol

Doubt the bit about as much stamina and better feet than a saluki...

Anther Big Dog Down
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to Cushty mush's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I stuck with the 55grn Vmax and have accounted for 27 since September, with my shooting mate accounting for 6 of those with his .220 swift. I tried some 40grn Vmax on Saturday night, I don't think the foxes knew the difference... -

Nice one cushty! You knocking a few over with the .223? What ammo are you using? -
My tikka t3 .223 holds 4 but the rounds sit left and right a bit, not directly on top of each other.

Rabbit Round Least Affected By Wind
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to let'sshoot's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I know you said 100 yards in really windy conditions, but when its really windy you can get much closer to them. .22lr for me, shoot them up to 100 yards in light winds. And get a bit closer when its really blowing. Cheap to feed and really quiet... I have a .22lr and .223 and they are a perfect combination for me...I need no more or no less... -

DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good, knocking them over local, two last time out. Very sharp round cover, Speed and stamina is ridiculous....Honestly couldn't want any more from such a young dog... Far exceeded my expectations...- 261 replies
