  1. Injury's aside, how much difference is there between a fit and unfit dog? is it speed as well as stamina? and how much difference is there?
  2. A few weeks ago I took two of my jills out to have a go at a friend of my dads place, where I found a good hedgerow teeming with fresh earth's. Started well with about 4 out of the first set. I walked on to the next and found an area of maybe 20 metres long down this hedgerow where there must have been over 50 burrows!!! well armed with about 20 purse nets I decided not to bother so I set up my 25 yard long net and quietly put the jills to ground and silently stood behind some cover. After about a minute I saw a bunny poke his head out of a burrow had a good look around before hoping out and s
  3. Dam was probably between 25 and 27 and I never saw the Sire..... hmmmm At what age do most 'bigger' lurcher's roughly reach their final height? At nearly 7 months and being 24 inch tts, would you say hes nearly done? maybe end up 26 ish or will he be pushing 29 30?
  4. My pup is 6 1/2 months now and he is 24 inch tts, made up of mostly deer x grey, what height does this stand him in for fully grown?
  5. I don't own any collars and have never used them, I have two hobs and two jills. I'm wondering if jills are better to work without collars due to being smaller and there-for less likely to make a kill and laying up? or do they kill and lay up as much, or even more than hobs?, cheers
  6. helps loads mate , how do you fix your head line to your sticks? and is the foot line pegged down?
  7. Ferreting a hedgerow tomorrow on my own, wondering how people get on when its a mission to run back and forward to keep working both sides? I have a 25 yard long net which I could use?? If i can work out how to set it up. Any advice will help. or photos of a similar situation using a longnet. cheers
  8. walk him where no other dogs are likely to have been to wear him out, then feed him, then he should ready to sleep. leave the tv on. my pup was the same , doesnt last long mate. atb
  9. Indeed very helpful, much appreciated!! I think my problem is judging distance! especially at night under the lamp which is more of a beam of light so I cant see what is in-between me and my target. I constantly try to get that bit closer to my 25 yards target, which often ends up spooking any bunny's, I don't like to try anything over 25 yards because my pellets seems to drop very quickly once past this distance, which at night seems impossible to judge and achieve a clean kill. I use a hawke map pro? with the milli dots, will put in the practice, thanks for your advise.
  10. Hi all, bought a BSA Ultra Multi-shot about 8 months ago, can anyone tell me how to get more power out of it, I'm guessing its nearly 12ftp already? but being a .22 I think it would be much more usable if it had a flatter path of trajectory for longer? will upping the power help this? or should I consider chopping it in for a .177? and advise welcome, thanks in advance.

  15. How often do you stray a field or two from your permission? or do you mooch where the wind takes you? ........be honest just curious
  16. some good advice!!!! well apriecated, especially danger of farmer if the dog turns on stock, never thought of that one.

  18. Im fairly new to lamping with lurchers, always been into other fieldsports though. I did my research, and due to having a one year old daughter at home i got a 1/4deerhound 3/4greyhound because ive heard good things about the deerhound temperament. His name is Buzz, he is now 4 months and growing fast!! training is going well for both of us!! I have read countless threads and the odd book on working lurchers and im looking forward to working buzz. One thing did enter my head the other day after talking with a shooting buddy, who told me his dog ran into a pile of rubble and sadly lost her leg
  19. I have a quarter deerhound 3 quarter greyhound pup , looks like he will be very similar to yours, just wondering how yours gets on with the rabbits compared with the other dogs? is his height a disadvantage? and is he as quick off the mark? very nice looking thats for sure!!!
