  1. Credit where its due, those pups look like toppers! Usually when people pick pups up for photos to be taken they look nervous and often look shy with a camera shoved in there face. Not one of them looks even slightly bothered, funny how you can just tell quality, well raised pups from a few pics...
  2. Good pics Trench, love the look of that big dog... Just one I snapped of Chief today on the phone...
  3. There's flinty ground then there's flinty ground. Some ground we was on last season was shocking. Big rolling hills, at the top was like chaulky compost and found out the hard way that in the lower valleys there was boulders of flint the size of tennis balls, more flint on the ground than mud... Dog had slices off every pad and knocked a few nails back to the quick just on one bloody rabbit. Tough feet or not you risk ruining your dog IMO.
  4. When I was on the cod quest, I would dig 40 odd yellowtails and leave them un gutted in a shallow tray and kept topping them up with fresh sea water....If you use a baiting needle they often stay intact when baiting up. I think the scent trail must be much better this way rather than the gutted, wrapped stuff from the tackle shop, and 4.50/5 quid a score! Also if your missing a few change the angle of the pump, I found 3 inches away and just enough angle on the pup to intercept the worms hole at about 6 inches deep worked well for me... TC how did you go about finding the blacks rather
  5. Top advice TC I would have thought buying a new one would have worked "out of the box" so to speak... The one I made used rubber washers from b&q and was not very efficient. The silicone washer I later put in made all the difference... Suck a golf ball through a hosepipe... Do the worms differ in depth due to temperature?
  6. I've made one. It worked good enough, the more I used it the better it got because I was constantly fine tuning it... Drop of washing up liquid and away you go! Bit of a knack to it though, took me a while to get the hang of it.... To be honest though I would just buy one, they are not mega money, and by the time you have bought your bits and pieces theres not much in it.... Dug all my own yellow tails 2 years back for the cod season and was rewarded with an 8lb cod off Dungeness....
  7. A second hand Beretta O/U will hold its value very well so if you do decide shootings not for you, you can get your money back. A mate of mine recently bought his first shotgun, he did a grand on a Beretta 686 and loves it, it inspires confidence in him and after having it fitted, he shoots very well with it.
  8. I wouldn't buy two guns, just buy one and get used to it... Also wouldn't buy a semi auto if your going to shoot clays....
  9. What height did she make? Looks in great shape for a pup
  10. Skycats fitness and conditioning thread pinned at the top of this section is a good read, says she wouldn't bike any pup under 12 months. My pup is 9 1/2 months old and has "mooched" to a good level of fitness for a young'un. I've just started to do a bit of jogging round the block with him just to get him ready and used to running at whatever speed I'm going at, also helps him get used to trotting comfortably while cars wiz by, last thing I want is to be biking along with a nervous dog running in front of me every time he hears a new noise. We do about 20 mins and he doesn't even puff out
  11. I would be devastated if one of my dogs was attacked for no reason and started showing aggressive behaviour, or was nervous around other dogs because of it. I remember taking my mums puppy Doberman out when I was a kid and a german shepherd charged at her while I had her on a lead, I remember kicking it a few times and the bloke who owned it beating it with one of them retractable leads before it got the message, he said sorry and that he took it out early to avoid such incidence, so he knew what it was like..............but it was still off the lead and un muzzled. She was always nervou
  12. Id rather end up in court than let my dog take a hiding from an aggressive out of control dog.
  13. I don't think you could apply for a FAC for shooting tin cans?
  14. Look in very good order them What is the pipe round the inside of the box for?
  15. I doesn't bother me if a dog trots up to a squatter, if its a long way out.... I think the difference is when a dog stops then starts again and keeps stopping on its way out... My dog cuts the rabbits off, so he will often trot up to a squatter then when it bolts he nearly runs parallel with it to race it back to the hedge...No collie either
  16. Just sent off for my first centre fire variation (.223). Got thinking about twist rates, from what I have read the faster the twist, the gun will stabilise heavier bullets...? So why would anyone choose a 1.12 over a 1.8 is there any cons to a faster twist? Cheers.
  17. There is no constancy in firearms licensing, so no one on here can tell you you will be granted or not. No two FEOs are the same, no forces are the same. You wont know unless you try....But the best advice I would have for you is to be 100% honest in your application. Good luck
  18. What I think I meant was, they have to have that potential there in the first place to be "great". Some people will be better at getting the best out of each animal no doubt. But I think some dogs are more naturally talented than others.... I don't necessarily think each dog you get will be better than the last....you may just get better at getting the most out of each dog though...
