Finding A Rifle....
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Here we go, measured out 100m. Setup shooting into the wind, which was blowing about a bit. 15/20mph. First shot was way out. Some massive adjustments later we got on paper and somewhere close...Probably 2 inch group. Scope is pretty shite to be honest blurry on 9x at 100m. Still this is the first 10 rounds or so i have put through any center fire rifle... Then after getting used to how the gun felt, the groups got a bit tighter, 3 shots a tad high so one click down on the old hawke saw my first bullseye! Then ran out of paper so had a go at a drawing pin. 3 shot grou -

Finding A Rifle....
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
After days of searching I found something I liked on guntrader, Tikka T3 lite in stainless with a cheap hawke 3x9x50IR, leupold mounts and a PES mod... £650. In bloody good condition. Probably put a better scope on it in a few weeks time. Better than weighing out £1500! Keeps the misses happy and all that... -

Finding A Rifle....
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Looked at an A bolt and cz527 both synthetic, thought both was lacking in quality a bit. But well priced. I like the Tikka t3 lite and Browning X bolt in stainless. I thought I was going to find a bargain second hand set up but there isn't much about, Most second hand stuff in the shops is not much cheaper than buying new... Like the look of the tikka burris combo..For £1480 But would I be just as happy with an A bolt for £530 and a £200 Nikkon.... -
Currently looking for a .223 Been looking on here, guntrader, gunstar, guns for sale uk, PW, UKV, and in the local shop.. Any other sites I'm missing? Cheers

'gem' Its Great Watching Pups
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to FERRETBOY's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Nice to see an older dog playing well with a pup. My older dog wasn't interested when my pup was little. -
So basically if you buy a pup for more than a few hundred quid, then your only doing it for your ego, and the man selling the pups is only in the game for the money? Nothing to do with top bloodlines producing top animals time and again?. Pedigrees of proven, tested dogs, doing the business for 30/40 years? There is plenty of people willing to pay up for top pups, which drives the price up. If you can sell them for £500 each or more, you aint going to let them go for £100 each, no matter what anyone says. No one forcing anyone to buy one. Like I have said, I have never sold a dog

My Lurcher. 14 Months Old Now...
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to Gaz_1989's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Brilliant photo that last one Gaz, Pups turned into a beauty. -
Err, if you don't believe in ridiculous prices for lurcher pups then yes you are..... It's the breeder that dictates the sale value of his litter, no one else! The breeder can dictate all he wants but that doesn't mean they will sell for his price. Do you think all pups should be the same price?
-
agree breedings a big part mate but to many think buying a dog of good breeding for big money will make up for there shortcomings in training and conditioning then blame the dog and passe it on the next year and buy in again atb mc Agree. But if you had a pup out of non workers and a pup out of top class proven dogs with generations of competition winners behind them, put the same conditioning and upbringing into them both, what's going to be the better animal come January? Some are worth more than others for a reason
-
Never bred a litter or sold a dog. So it's got nothing to do with making money for me. You ain't going to win a grand national with a donkey. Donkeys breed donkeys lol Like I said something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So if you have got someone willing to pay £500 your not going to sell them for £200 are you..
-
To many people want something for nothing. You cant put in what the breeding left out. Though a good handler will bring any dog to its potential. If someone has a well bred animal and has traveled the length and breadth of this country twice a week for 6 or 7 seasons, if its proved itself after being tested to the max. Then you can charge what you like and people will pay for it. Be it for a pup or stud fee. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So if you have a que of lads willing to pay £500 a pup, then that's what they're worth. You aren't going to sell

Bolt Position Safety Question...
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
What is more important, being safe or getting on to a rabbit quick? leaving a spent case in the chamber will not slow you down any, how long would it take you to flick the safety off a cz 452 and cycle the bolt ? all of 3-4 seconds ……..stay safe, theres always another rabbit another night. Being safe is priority number one! But is a live round in the chamber with the safety on enough? Or do you leave a spent case in with the safety on? It probably would take less than 3/4 seconds to be fair, I quite like the idea. Just trying to find out how others shoot. -
Bolt Position Safety Question...
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sod taking the bolt out between shooting rabbits. Either slide the bolt open or one in chamber with safety on surely? Just that the chap i was with the other day left the spent case in and safety on until next shot, which is obviously safe but a bit more messing about when you need to get on a rabbit quick? -
Bolt Position Safety Question...
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
So driving around a permission, say shooting rabbits with a .22lr, you would completely remove the bolt between every shot? With my cz452 I have to pull the trigger to slide the bolt back in, and with a loaded mag that sounds f**king dangerous? Any one else? -
Bolt Position Safety Question...
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I have used both methods, bolt out, or live round in and safety on. I always find myself checking and double checking and triple checking the safety. I quite often test the safety as well just to be sure it all works as it should. I do close the shotgun in the hide and use the safety, with the barrels pointing up and away at all times unless I have to put it down then I break it. -
When out shooting, what position do you leave the bolt in, say when you put the rifle down in the truck to pick up the lamp or between shots. Having been out with two different shooters recently I noticed one took a shot and left the spent case in the chamber with the bolt closed and safety on, the other would take a shot then pull the bolt out leaving it open.... After being around someone who pulls the bolt out and leaves it open (which obviously visible), it felt a bit uncomfortable being in the truck with someone who leaves the spent case in the chamber with the bolt closed and sa

Little beauties! Could sit and watch them play all day long.

I have insurance with BASC, mainly as it looks good when you knock on doors looking for new shooting permissions!!. Doubt I will ever need it but you never know! I thought it only covered third party stuff like if you cause accidental damage. Does it cover legal representation as well?

Choosing The Right Rifle....
DeerhoundLurcherMan replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The A bolt in the shop had a lovely trigger out of the box, no creep just a gentle light squeeze and "click". Bang on it was, felt similar to my .22lr having had a trigger job. I dont even know what I want, but I think I need to see a CZ527 before I decide. Be good if I could pick up something second hand that's been looked after. I have just put a wanted advert up for sale section... -
browning x bolt browning a bolt tikka t3 remmington 700 cz527 howa 1500 any of the above, with or without scope/mod ect. Based in Kent but will travel a bit for the right gun...

You will still get hassle if they know who you are or not. If they find something illegal has been happening they will be on to you first that is all.

I just got back from looking at a few different .223s in my local gun shop, looked a 3... A second hand Tikka t3, synthetic stock, varmint barrel, and AES sound mod and a trigger job. A few scratches and the odd knock on it. £800. A new Remmington 700, synthetic stock. Didn't like the feel of the stock. £890. And a new Browning A bolt, synthetic stock. Felt ok, Nice trigger. £655. The bolt on all 3 rifles felt a bit slack and clumsy to be honest. The action on my .22lr is much tighter and smoother. Just looking for opinions on what you lot think, shame they didn't have a cz
