  1. Hi all, as some of you know i have a plummer/lakeland terrier, and because of him i am keen to start bushing as an activity for the dog and to keep the snakes fed , i got him at 7months old, the people i got him from where nice enough and said he was 'untrainable' and they no longer wanted him they never mentioned he had been used for working but when they said he was good with ferrets, and that his dad was a great working dog and told me the kennels he was from, they also had another dog there which im pretty sure was his litter mate, which was trained to be a ratting dog, and he
  2. Its 1974 so just shy of tax free , thanks for the tips mate ill look into it in more detail when the time comes, think im going to just enjoy it as a standard series when its done, i was looking into lpg conversions too they seem like a good option and not overly expensive, the only thing i dnt like about them is the amount of rear space they can take up
  3. nice one do you have any pics? i love my series never driven it though got it when i was 15 for £200, i always loved landies mainly defenders then i saw a series in a magazine and from then on always wanted one and prefered it to defenders etc i know the mpg is not good i try not to think about it but when i do i heard that aswell, apparently it gets very very noisey though or so i heard not seen one in the flesh, im thinking of dropping the petty in for now as i really want to get it up and running i got it 5 years ago , then i think i will find a good 200tdi and some
  4. Hi all, just wondering if any of you use series landies and if so what set-ups you have? im currently building one from the chassis up, and wondering what engines and tyres you all use? i was thinking of re-building the standard 2.25 petrol or dropping in a 200tdi instead? or maybe a 2.5NA from an early 90, im going for some range rover wheels but unsure what tyres to put on them Thanks Jord
  5. ive been having the same problem with my terrier mate (plummer x lakeland) got him 2months ago, he is 9months now and this week has finally been the week in which it has all kicked in lol, at 1st he would run for the hills, chasing and following other dogs, people, birds anything, even if nothing was there he would bugger off, the way i sorted it was to take him out with the other dogs on my bike, they automatically seem to go into a follower mode, he ignored pretty much everything showed some interest in other dogs but would stop for a second then try to catch up, did that every morn
  6. Thanksfor the tip mate will give it ago I wouldnt really mind him going down, and pulling out a rabbit its if he goes down doesnt come out and i have to dig down and he's latched on to a bloody fox or or summit lol, i dont have a problem with fox hunting or anything like that but what im i guna do with a dead bloody fox, too big for my snakes and i dont want it lol
  7. will do lol, hopefully he wont but he seems to be completely fearless atm so knowin my luck he will fancy himself as a digger, he seems to have a great nose on him, and if he is sniffing around he seems to 'point' at things that interest him usually hedges he looks straight at it, front paw up and tail straight and head forward,
  8. with him being a dog im guessing no lol, i perhaps should of re-phrased my op, what i mean is im just looking for something i can do that is fun and may bring a few rabbits without the hassle of digging him out all the time etc, obviously i will always carry a shovel and i will get a location collar incase he does, but if he does go to ground i will probably stop doing it as i am only interested in catching a few rabbits
  9. thats the main reason i want to try it, keep the dog happy and healthy, and if my snakes get a meal then great if not i can always get some anyway, and im hoping this extra exercise along with his walks and bike rides will stop him diving into the local pond trying to get swans!!!! luckily he doesnt try to kill them or bite them he just swims behind them and follows them daft sod
  10. Great looking dog there mate is it a pat? nice size rabbit to im sure my boas would love that :11:
  11. Hi mate, where you from in N wales send a pm if you want Pm sent mate
  12. Hi all, as some people might know from my threads, i dont hunt never have, and i recently got a plummer/lakeland cross, he is 9months now, and very keen for rabbits etc, i recently got a breeding pair of boas (female is big and the male is a good size), so im thinking of trying bushing for rabbits, i dont need big bags im mainly looking to have abit of fun, and if i get some snake food while im at it great , im not interested in earth work etc and hopefully he wont go to ground for any body regulary use terrier for this kind of work?
  13. Yea he is a 7-month old lakeland/plummer cross, to be honest this was just a thought and i wont need any for a while not until a few weeks before i get the snake/s, i might look into getting him to flush them out like you said, im sure he could do that or mark i would be doing it to feed the snakes and for the dog to enjoy, and as the snakes would only be eating a whole rabbit once every 2/3weeks depending on the snakes size, and would just stock up over the rabbiting season ill look into and see if i can find some people local who use lurchers etc and would mind me tagging along
  14. Hi all, as some of you will know i am completely new to hunting and have never been in my life, i keep reptiles, and i hve plans to collect more snakes mainly bigger ones such as boas, blood pythons an burmese pythons, all of which will need feeding, and i know alot of people who feed wild caught rabbits to theirs, so i thought why not hunt them myself, but before i even consider it further id like to know if any of you use ur terriers fo rabbitin and if you do how do you do it? also how many dogs is best and do the dogs kill them or do you? sorry if my questions seem stupid
  15. Mushed bird.....lovely lol, thanks for that atb with them im sure they will do very well
  16. Love your dogs, they look great, congrats , is it hard to get them to retrieve?
  17. Have you tried using a metal lead? we had a dog that used to chew the collars off our other dogs, so we got chain collars and he stopped doing it, if he bites hard onto a metal chain im sure it will hurt especially if he is used to soft ones, just a thought atb with it though mate Ive done that pin down thing before works quite well i find, if you hold the neck with a firm grip, and wait for them to exhail a big breath then you know he has calmed right down, then i release i seem to find the older the dog is the longer it takes to stop bad behaviour and create the behaviour you w
  18. Cracking fish mate well done!! im yet to catch a barbel but hoping to get into fishing big time next season!! i did some waggler fishing last week, was hoping for some big roach but sadly didnt get past he 1lb mrk , however was constantly getting nuisance fish after nuisance fish, was fun reminding me of when i used to go fishing when i was like 13 and how happy i would have been with a day like that
  19. Glad you found them mate, i live not too far from there and somtimes like to take the dogs out that way, so if they ever go missing for longer then normal give me a shout, we lost a dog once was terrible luckily a few months latr we found him livng with an old woman and her other dog, and he seemed happy and well looked after so thought it would be nice if he stayed there, and whilst looking for him we found another dog which was a stray and we still have him today 7years later so it all worked out well
  20. If had this with a few of my dogs, simple answer is exercise and drain that energy 1st thing in the morning if you can, i have found this to be the best way to compat these sort of things, also when walking i always use a check/choke chain, and my dogs always walk to the side of my slighly behind me never in front, that way im leading them, also, stopping randomly making them sit and wait sometimes for 1 minute sometimes more or less, and if they move correct them with a sharp pull on the lead to the side, and a firm no!, i use the same correction for any behaiour i dont want, s
  21. we got our others at 6months old and they wer cat aggressive, and it did take a while but they are ok now, so im sure he will be ok , and he is a lot more obedient then the others where at his age lol
  22. I dont think i want him to be quite that friendly with them but not far off would be nice I completely agree with you both, our other terrier will sit within an inch of our rabbits and be shaking all over with anticipation ready to pounce but will not move a muscle as he has been told to stay
  23. I would say exactly the same thing as above mate, i always used to put a lead on all mine then take them round the garden, that way im right next to them so when they did there business i can give them loads of praise, also helps them gt used to their lead as i was going out every hour, it has worked for every dog ive ever had
  24. As far as a native adder's venom is concerned its not too bad tbh around as toxic as a bee sting, however they obviously deliver more then a bee can, and like with bee stings an allergic reaction isnt uncommon, so i would say its definately a vet job, or hospital job if you or the dog get bit, its not too dangrous unless an allergic reaction takes place then it can be pretty dangerous i think. condtioning the dog against snakes may be a good idea, all mine have been with my pet snakes
