This is also what i think, older/injured or lone wolves realised that hanging around near human camps was to their advantage scrap food etc, any wolves that where aggressive towards early man would have no doubt been swiftly dealt with, also if these wolves lingered around the outskirts of camps shadowing humans as they moved around, they would no doubt have acted as an early detection to potential danger, i find it hard to believe alot of animals can slip past into camp without the wolf realising, and any animal that is a threat to a wolf is no doubt a threat to man, so a relationship bet

Mackay your right about wild animals inbreeding, but you have to remember these are wild animals with a hugely varied gene pool formed from millions of years of natural selection and evolution, where as the domestic dog is a completely selcetive bred and a man made species meaning it isnt likely to have as varied a gene pool, but without getting into genetics too much, the bottom line is sibling inbreeding whilst morally questionable, at first is unlikely to cause any negative issues, but if it is repeated and repeated problems will start to occur due to the lack of gene variation, i m

Love the idea of this cross, i have a lakeland cross plummer, who for a terrier is rapid, very lightweight and leggy, but would run through brick wall, would love a dog like him but with more pace, would be perfect for the mooching i do with my two terriers

if it was done once by accident or as a 1 off then the chances of it causing problems are low, if however the parents of the brother and sister share relatives also even quite far back i wouldnt advise it, it will help both good and bad traits stick, this is because the dna of the siblings being mated will be very similar and the offspring will have less choice dna wise when they are being created etc, therefore they will be similar to their parents in alot of ways, but they will also have less gene variation then a dog with non related parents, you only have to look at pedigree dogs to se

Hi all, i saw some rabbit snares in a agricultural shop the other day and ive been researching it and it seems a fairly easy and effective way to keep rabbits at bay if done properly, my grandparents have some land which joins their garden, rabbits are always coming from it in the garden and making a right mess digging etc, if i go up there with the terrier he buggers off for hours and somtimes comes back with a rabbit, my only concern is the technique in which to kill a rabbit once you have it snared? as the only time i go rabbiting is bushing with the terrier and he has never bro

Hi all, So my brother is after a dog, and he is thinking of getting a lurcher, it will be mainly used for some bushing with my terriers, maybe some lamping, he was thinking along the lines of whippet lurchers as he doesnt want anything too big but wants it to be able to do abit of everything, any ideas? or advise for somebody getting their 1st lurcher?

how did they get there in the first place then if its got f**k all to do with the keepers as u put it ???? and also if there was the colours or colors as you said why are they only in certain areas when black is a dominant colour and the natural colour of uk rabbits is gray ? get looking on google boy Tbh it is probably a little of both, the genetics of agouti coats will throw up different colours such as black etc, otherwise domestic rabbits would all be one colour, and if a black rabbit bred to another chances are you will get some black rabs if not the majority of the offspring will

Granted my two terriers arnt out and out workers as i only take them bushing, but they do cover alot of ground and get alot of exercise, i tend to just feed what i think is enough and keep an eye of their body shape and weight once you know what works well stick with it, i feed mine 100% raw when i can and occasionally biscuits when the meats is starting to run low, i get a load of chicken carcasses from one butcher, and i get a bag of all scraps from another one once a week for free the bag of scraps is made up of beef, chicken, lamb the odd bit of pork, but no two bags are the same, som -
Hi all, my friedns dad goes shooting and said if he ever has any excess, he will send it my way for the snakes and the dogs, anyway he's had a clear out of his freezers and given me a rabbit, pheasent and a peacock, i know rabbits and pheasents are ok, but never heard of anyone feeding or eating a peacock so just thought id mention it here first lol

white is a recessive gene like some else stated, so im guessin the red dog had no white gene, if that is that case you will never get white pups, now however all the pups will now carry the white gene. and if they are bred to a white dog you should get a 50/50 chance of a pup being white, and if you breed them to another dog that carries the white gene but isnt itself whote the chances will be 25% that is when one colour is dominant over another e.g. black over white, but if your dealing with more then one colour i.e. black and tan, white and tan etc then your talking about co-dominant gen

Im 21 and its £600 a year for my 2.25 series 3 landy also due to it being made in 1972 it is tax exempt so its win win for me! especially considering my 1.2 clio was 1200 after i first passed. then my 1.5d peugeot 106 was £900 until i got the landy a month ago!!!

Thanks John, ill be filleting it for myself anyway so i think i will just do that to them all and make a bag for the dogs, save risking it , theres not alot of room for more dog food in the freezer as it is so i might only keep a few for them lol

Hi all, ive got a boat trip this friday so i will hopefully be getting some fish for me and the dogs! it looks like it will be alot of pollock with maybe a few cod etc, polluck aroun 12lb have been caught recently, and im just wondering does [NO TEXT TALK] feed fish this size whole? mine get sardine etc whole at the moment twice a week maybe, and ive had no problems regarding bones etc my plan was to just simply cut the fish up into chunks and lob it in? or would i be better off de-boning it? it will be for the 2 terriers and the dalmatian Thanks Jord

Ive recently started feeding my dogs on a complete raw diet, i get most of mine from the butchers i just asked them if i could have anything they would normally throw away, i get two big bags from them a week, and i keep tripe, fish, beef mince in the freezer and a few tins of tuna and sardines on the side to add in to keep it varied and makes the lot from the butchers last longer, and i throw in some boiled/steamed veg twice a week, theyve bin on it for about a month now and i have had loads of people commenting on their condition and their coats for the last few weeks now, i even feed i

patterdale pups (not a for sale thread)
Jordb543 replied to stick's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
That is a great looking pup mate i would be well interested in seeing how it turns out, as for the coat colour, it is probably from the staffy genes, brindle is recessive and black is dominant so usually black to black would mean black pups, unless both dogs have brindle genes in their heritage, which both of yours must to to produce the brindle pups. It wont have an effect on the overall shape and size the pups reaches, as it is just a colour, if they do appear more staffy like that is literrally a coincidence lol, if it was me id keep one back to see what it turned out like, im -
If its 1989 and has a 2.5NA in it then its not a defender mate, defenders didnt come out till 1991. it is just called a land rover 110 so i would guess your looking at the £1500-£2500 mark depending on milage overall condition etc etc

i wouldn't say anyone as i would be doing the same to help getting mine off yours

I understand what your all saying, i probably did over react abit, the 1st instance was at the side of the lake which has massive reeds everywhere and she came round the corner and my dogs where already there mooching by the reeds, its also very narrow so we had to pass each other anyway so nothing i could of done there really, the 2nd time we came in close proximity again, and i think the way she reacted made the whole thing worse, she started kicking off as soon as she saw mine, so they sort of homed in on her, as soon as i said my piece i called them and they all came straight to

I was walking my 3 dogs in the park today, they where all off the lead running round and theres load of people doing the same with their dogs etc, im walking along the path where it narrows and some woman walks round with her dog on a flexi lead sees my three and reels her dog in as quickly as she could, like most dogs mine go to sniff it etc and her dog wants to do the same so i think nothing of it walk past and say hi, 2 seconds later i hear " will you call your bloody dogs!" they had literally been there for 3seconds tops, so i took the high ground ignored the crazy bitch carried on wa
