You know what they say about blaming your tools..............................

I use a small bulldog spade but before that it was a home made job.

How do you find the quality of the Proctor traps? Every time I've handled one I've been disappointed with them. Only the other day I took one out of it's flashy new box in a local agricultural merchant. One side wouldn't set, and the other wouldn't go off! And then there is the fact that they are made in China........... call me old fashioned, but I like to buy british whenever I can. Still, if they work well for you, good luck to you. I've yet to handle a duffus type trap that is fit to catch well straight from the box. Agreed, although the Flat Packs are pretty cl

Matt honestly if i tried to charge them prices then i wouldn't be making a living from moles i would be sat at home. Some farmers round here wouldn't pay you £2 a mole and that's a fact. I have learned to live with the fact that i can't charge "London prices" for my moles, but we have no shortage of them and I'm confident in my abilities to catch the little black fellas in good enough numbers that it's worth my while turning out.

£10 a mole i wish.......................................................... I have a few small jobs that pay that kind of money. But try telling a sheep farmer he owes you £2000 after a couple of days work he would laugh in your face. I run 400 traps almost full time from august through till may, i have found a price that works for me and my area. How do i know i couldn't get more? because i have land in my area i would love to get at but the land owners won't have them done because of the cost involved. Matt you seem to have it in for part timers in my experience it's men like yourself who ch

Work out what it will cost you in time and fuel and charge accordingly, not all jobs are the same you will learn by your mistakes.

Will soon be that time of year again got a feeling some good pics will turn up somewhere......................

I have taken doubles in almost every month of the year nothing strange about it imo. What i would say though looking at that picture both moles are foul caught so i would be working on the trap so it catches more humanly.

Try the gypsy camp that would be my first port of call. -
Scooby was one of the fastest dogs i have seen thats for sure.

One thing i should of made clear is the dog no matter how good he was had an owner that thought the world of him and who put the dog in situations were he could be the best he could be. We have all had dogs that aren't 100% what we want but IMO this is were a true dog man shows his worth by getting the best from a dog and using what ever strengths it has. No matter what doubts i have in my head about Scooby's legend status i would never doubt the love JD had for him.

Well fella i saw the dog run as much if not more than anyone in his early days and quiet a bit through the rest of his short carrier. To be honest he was no legend and had a few major faults for a dog with his chosen profession, but saying this he had a very keen maybe obsessed owner and put some gear on the deck. But numbers don't always tell the full story, i will leave it at that as the dog is gone and his owner isn't about much to comment.

Don't really want to mess about posting it i'm a busy man and can't be done with the hassle. If nobody local ish wants it it can stay in the shed.

Finder box and 1 collar bought it in with a job lot but can't get on with the noise it makes. £75 N.yorks/ N.east pick up or may be able to deliver for cost of fuel.

All my traps when fired blind will double fire and that's how i like them. When in the ground and triggered by a mole i very rarely get a double fire. But i don't get to many filled traps either wonder why that could be????????????????????????????

WILF I know lads that earn there crust picking up from august through to feb and quiet a few lads that beat use it to supplement there wage when work is slow over winter. But most are real country folk that just love being out in good company and nice scenery doing something they enjoy yes they would probably do the odd day for free but when the weather is bad it is the ££££££££££ that get them out of bed on a morning. We are lucky in the fact that the estates round here need to keep there wages competitive or beaters will go were the grass is greener. If our keepers had the attitude of some

I don't do it for the money because to be honest i could make more doing other things. I see a days beating as a day away from it all having good craic with a bunch of mates and building up a few brownie points for when the season is over and the dogs are needed But as i've said on the big spots i want my dollar because i've earned it. What i don't really like is the lads that seem to take beaters for granted because without them you would not have a days shooting.
-
Well round these parts beaters are payed £35-£40 a day and birds if you want them. Pickers up are £45-£50 If you beat on keepers day and don't shoot you get payed if a day is cancelled due to weather you get payed. I beat on a couple of small shoots for free but get other perks out of the job. But for a day on a large commercial shoot i expect to be payed for my time at £40+ per bird they can afford it.

A mate of mine has a kc registered mini smooth haired sausage hound and she bolted a few foxes last season. Gonna try her again this time and see if we can get a dig over her. They are never gonna be a digging dog but it is a good feeling when you get a result with something a little different.
