  1. Should be just the job for hunting the hills
  2. Looking forward to seeing how these turn out. Hopefully a few lads off here will be working them. ATB with finding good homes. You keeping one back Dai?
  3. Haven’t been up there for a while mate. There’s plenty of other stuff moved in and way too many people about to have an accident
  4. Anything with a bit of collie and saluki in it!! Might try something different next.
  5. Yeah. 15 on Saturday. Time does fly. She was a great little dog and she always surprised us. I think sometimes she thought she was 29TTS
  6. We had some good days and nights out with Martha mate. Great little dog. I remember the first night you took me out with her. The field were a fair size and the slips were long. She soon filled a bag for us though! She had a good life. Just found this picture of when we all went up to Wales.
  7. She’s plenty big enough for most things then. That’s a perfect size for a rabbit dog. Especially for long slips on big ground.
  8. She’s a nice looking bitch. Looks to be in good condition and bred for the bunnies. Something similar would be great to start my young lad off. How tall is she? ATB with your search. I’d definitely stick to your guns and go see the potential sire at work
  9. Stayed fairly local for this walk and had a few places I wanted to check out. Mainly places where we would camp as kids and spend all day fishing in the pools and small disused reservoirs. Nice to see a couple of nice wild brownies in the pools. Some signs of otters but the reservoirs have been drained. Apparently due to health and safety as kids were swimming in them. Thats all we ever did over the summer. Dogs were acting a bit funny in one area so I went down to have a look. There was a wild foal (welsh mountain pony/Carneddau pony)stuck up to its knees in a bog. Poor thing was weak but ma
  10. I take it we ain’t ferreting this weekend then! Looks a great place mate. Is there any rugby on? Always somewhere I’ve wanted to visit. Have a good one
  11. Always plenty of water up there! Was also a bit of a recce for getting the dogs out next season. How did you get that sink up there without spilling the water! Cap da iawn.
  12. Had a few days up in North Wales with my youngest lad. Few areas I hadn’t been for a while so we took a trip out. He’s been learning to map read/navigate for a few weeks so we took the map and compass for a bit of practice. Walked around to a couple of lakes and a bothy where I spent a lot of time when I was growing up. Got the cooker on for some hot grub and hot chocolate. We’ve decided to head back up in the summer, stay at the bothy and do some fishing.
  13. No mate he never has. He’s ferreted from a young age so I think teaching him to keep out with that has helped. He will stand and mark no problems though. Small world gaza, a week before you picked your terrier up I nearly had him. He’s turned out a cracker.
  14. Was a great couple of days. That’s the only time I’ve seen one on this stretch of coast. Loads of dolphins about last year and plenty of tuna.
  15. Crazy how quick time goes. He’s been a good dog mate. I’ll be in touch when I need another. He’s showing no sign of slowing down at the minute though. Hope you are well mate
  16. Needs a few A jobs doing on it! Is that the best in the airborne fleet?
  17. Remember it well mate. Probably one of the worst thing I had to do whilst serving was work on the foot and mouth outbreak. Building the fire pits, burning the cattle, visiting the poor farmers and seeing their stock being killed pretty much in front of them. Some took their own lives. The smell was what I remember the most. We were living in a 30 man room working shifts so the smell never left. Some people made serious money from it. The slaughter lads used to joke saying they’d earned more by morning tea break than I would get for doing the 12hr shift. Terrible times and I hope it doesn’t mak
  18. It’s because he’s not answering any of my messages to go out lamping or ferreting. Part timer!
  19. Sorry to hear of your loss and I hope today goes as well as it can do. That’s how they should describe the word ‘mate’ in the dictionary. Your words. if you need a favour or back up he would be there no questions.
  20. Funny you should say that Blacky. This is going to be music to MC Hulls ears. One my dogs got 1/4 saluki in him. 1/8 collie and the rest grew. He’s 11 now and still putting in the miles. When he’s running on rocks or tricky ground I don’t think it’s the 1/8 collie that helps. Really good coat on him too. We’ve always had a funny relationship but I’ll put that down to the 1/4 saluki!!
  21. There’s boys on here with a lot more knowledge than me mate. Just find if they are playing about then they don’t even pick the scent up to start with. If they are used for other lurcher work then it’s not natural for them to cast out looking for scent in the first place. It’s all done on sight. I’d be looking at them working/nose to the ground a good couple of hundred metres away. Possible more. Once on scent they will just go. Once they see something then get the binos out or look at the trackers!
  22. Yep I’ve been out with 2 pups and also 2 young dogs. Until they know what it’s all about then they just mess about. If you got the time then taking them out separate works. Ferreting, lamping I’m happy to take a young dog out by itself and learn the ropes. Hill work is easier if you have an older dog ranging out doing the job. Young dog will normally follow. I’m talking from the point of view that my Lurchers don’t have hound or pointer in them so ranging out doesn’t come naturally. If I was only doing hill work then I would be looking at hound or GWP cross. Nothing with less than half running
