    touching them wont drain them did you put the collar batteries in the wrong way round, its an easy mistake, or even the 9 volt in back to front, again easily done, once you tried the locator and didnt get any beeps/flashes, did you try it again when the ferret reapeared the ferret may have been further than 16ft away from you, a reason for no beeps or sound if you had the unit working the day/night before, then its deffo not a fauly item, more likely batterys wrongly fitted, that'll be my guess

    had been asked by one of my permissions to do some ferreting, on arriving there, the farmer/manager gave us a quick drive round pointing out areas that were way to overgrown to ferret just yet, we decieded to ferret a couple of boundary hedges instead, along with an area, that last year was plagued with rabbits, had invited essexjed,ABdog and richie10 along, so after meeting up and a quick chat, we set the longnets up and started, this area only saw us with one rabbit a few others bolting out of un netted areas the boundary hedge had a earthernware water pipe running under

    answered that yourself really, by using the word "new", you'll only get a new mk3, everything else, mk1/mk2 will be second hand and if you already have a mk1, is it broken? if not, save you money and keep using it, if its on its way out, get a mk3, no matter what anyone else's personal prefrence is, with a mk3 you'll get a gurantee anything else and you pay ya money and take a chance

    Ive always offered to do "all their pest control" in exchange for sole permission, no payment, Im sure your son could offer the same, rabbit,pidgeon,rat,fox?, which may give him the edge he needs, as a lot of shooters want only pidgeon, ferreters want rabbits etc, but to offer everything makes more sense

    if you had them crammed into a 2ft cage, Id say you'd be right in feeling guilty, but having them in a shed/court etc is giving them ample space and so you dont need to be out there as often

    I used to buy expensive ones too, but the e bay stuff allows you to use them once then throw away, and use new ones the next time, they have enough power in them to last a full day, and only work out to pennies

    have you cut the collar down yet? if not, when you do, leave a good bit extra on it, say a good 75mm after its done up, comes in handy when you have a ferret thats a little hard to reach, ie in undergrowth, down a hole, you can grab the flap of collar and lift out, dont worry it wont choke them...

    I tend to buy the multi packs from e bay, you get around 60 batteries for £10, while there check out battery testers, you can pick up the one below for around £5, each ferreting trip I put new batteries in the collars, if Im going out the following day, you can easily check how much life is left in them, and longer than a day inbetween and I normally just bin them

    if its the mk3 with the pinpointer turn it down you dont have to use it with it turned up just watch the lights if you use the volume its much like using the mk1 box or simply put some electrical tape over the speaker holes, reduces the noise yet still gives you the "beeps"

    your be filling holes a very long time, if you can fit a "biro pen" in a hole, a mouse will get through easily, your better off sealing the outside first, stop further infestation, then dealing with the mice inside, because a sure as eggs are eggs, you'll have a nest or two inside somewhere, also look at "food" as if you take that away, your halfway to problem solved, it amazes me the amount of people that complain to me off having mice, yet when you inspect the area, theres things like dog biscuits in sacks in kitchen, food left on worktops, spilled food behind cooker/fridge/microwave, a

    Obvious care need to be taken when buying a cabinet. A shotgun cabinet is unlikely to be suitable for a rifle and ammunition, but the appropriate rifle cabinet is likely to be fine for a shotgun!
