  1. Id say to low too, get it away from the fence as well, birds like to feel safe, easy pickings for a cat with that fence there
  2. so after trapping and killing it, you dont feel the need to dispose of it properly, just leave it laying around
  3. beechris had invited myself and my mate pete out on a new bit of permission he's got, a rape field thats been totally emptied on the rape, a few good warrens over the boundary fence, close to the roadside, but very steep banking, only retreaved 3 rabbits, but I reckon "ted" must of done a few more underground, and a couple of times we really thought we'd lost him, as the signal would go past the 16ft mark, but he came out eventually, much to my relief, 2 bucks and 1 pregnant doe, next time were try the field on opposite side of carrageway,
  4. only if using "live catch" if its a break back type trap, fenn/kania, then no

    mr and mrs

I think you actually admitting to watching mr & mrs on an open forum is far worst
  6. a mk6 fenn is the trap for rabbits, if you dont know the full usage of traps, Id recomend you read up alot more before using them you place them within the entrance of the warren, lightly burying them, the tunnel entrance then acts as the artificial tunnel
  7. pushing a finger into the mouth, back of tongue, to make them gagg, works great on kitts, would'ent want to do it on a year old fert though thats like asking for more
  8. was'ent it B&Q that made the mistake of putting mole traps on their shelves in Irland
  9. sent you an old method statement john, hope it arrives in time, I knew you were in Irland, and laws may differ, but it'll give you an idea of layout etc
  10. I use sudacream on all neck bites, rub it well in so it gets past the fur,
  11. telling them/quoting on your CV, that your into hunting sports, ferreting, shooting etc can only help, we once had a guy working on our old firm, that we found out had been letting trapped rabbits go, as he couldent bring himself to dispatch them, lol hopefully your not scared of heights, as sometimes work can involve going up in cherry pickers/scaffolding etc
  12. bit late to be asking that question really aint it
  13. so forget, rent, tax, gas, electricity, food, etc etc, theres a big difference between "job" and "sport"
  14. check out kilgerms website, Im sure they have method statements/risk assments you can download to look at,use failing that, pm me your address, Ill sort out an old method statement to send you, you'll be able to tweak it around to suit your needs as for pricing, Id start with working out a reasonable wage you'd be happy with, remember to do it before tax/national insurance, then times it by 52 weeks/or 12 months, remember to add a bit more on for unforseen circumstances, ie if you were sick and had to get someone in for a few days to help
  15. no mate, TED, is an outsider from the gene pool, he came from the member "richie" who gave up last year
  16. I have 4 castrated hobs that are used every summer, makes no difference, apart from good points, summertime ferreting can be tricky, dont like using jills that are in season, and intact hobs will fight rather than ferret castrated hobs get on with the job
  17. points to look at; age of batteries in both collar and locator, dull batteries will work well above ground, but go crazy when used on warrens, I always use new collar batteries every outing do you have a mobile phone in your pocket when ferreting, these can cause problems do you fix the collar/locator to the underside of chin, or back of neck
  18. fenn traps do not NEED to be baited, just find a used run, and place a tunnel fitted with a fenn, holes at either end, rats simply passing through will get caught
  19. cheers larry, looks like some good sites there
  20. most areas that we class as "common land" will have bylaws attached to them, they normally include no shooting allowed, no hunting, no digging etc but even if they did'nt, you'd still need a reason, wood pidgeons could not be shot just for the sake of it, they are not eating crops, and they cant be shot for sport,
  21. your welcome to bring her round here mate, Ive got "TED" an albino hob, excellent worker, never lays up underground, will kill, but moves on,
  22. can anyone advise on a good wine making website, as after watching all those "river cottage" programmes Ive often fancied giving it a go, even though Im not a wine drinker, I won a load of wine making gear and demijons from evil bay for £20, so need to start reading up on the subject
