THREE MEN FINED FOR COURSING IN IRELAND.
Maximus Ferret replied to TINY 12's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The guards often have no idea of the law and I could quite see a prosecution going ahead just because the accused didn't know how to fight it. -
THREE MEN FINED FOR COURSING IN IRELAND.
Maximus Ferret replied to TINY 12's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
they are the first to be fined in ireland for this offence (southern ireland) I didn't realise it was illegal. Do you know what law they were convicted on? Were they poaching? So far as I know if you're on land with permission it isn't illegal. Could this be a wrong prosecution maybe? -
I feed raw rabbit, raw chicken necks, any other raw meat I can get cheap or free and "Gain Record Breaker". The necks come frozen in a 10 kilo box for 3 euros or 6 euros depending on who's in the dispatch office at the chicken factory. The record breaker is 26 euros for a 15 kilo bag and it's first two ingredients are fresh chicken then chicken meal. It's the only meat based dry food I can find at a reasonable price. The chicken necks provide bone that even a young dog can chew and they keep the dogs teeth like ivory. Like the others say, I gut and freeze the rabbits first to kill worms b

I'm lamping a 14 month old bitch who's dark brindle. I'm starting to leave her off the slip and walking at heel some of the time. I'm often wishing she had some white bits as most of the time I can't see her, even when she's right next to me.

Running dog expert Penny Taylor (Skycat)
Maximus Ferret replied to a topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
There's another thread somewhere on breaksticks, which suggests to me that they're only used by people using bull or specifically pitbull crosses on big game, as I'm sure you know. Do you really want Penny's opinion or are you just trying to ruin a thread you don't like? Don't worry, we all know you're both hardmen (in your own mind anyway). -
Out of this game- complete heartache
Maximus Ferret replied to deerhoundgreyhound's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Sorry to hear that mate. Think about it again in a couple of weeks though. -
Agree fella, doesn't matter how Many times you wash your hands the smell stays. Tried all sorts lol anyone got any tips best way to get rid of it straight away Surgical gloves and a dollop of vic up each nostril. Exactly!! Disposeable surgical gloves for gutting and skinning then chuck the carcasses in a bucket of salty water for a while to soak any blood off them if you're going to eat them yourself.

Clondulane Country Fair Sat June 11Th 2011

What classes are you putting on for the lurchers? (ie. rough dog, rough bitch, smooth dog etc.) Can you post the whole schedule please? -
They're purebred greyhounds, of a coursing strain. Usually tall, they're able to run blisteringly fast in a straight line. In "park" coursing most courses are won by the first hound to reach the hare.

Great post Jigsaw. You can't beat a bit of walking in the summer.

Any one tried this new range of lamps FROM Deben
Maximus Ferret replied to graham4877's topic in Hunting Equipment
Let's hope they do a better job than Lightforce with the wiring and plugs!!! -
Hi Jigsaw, ear mite infections usually occur because the structure of the dogs ears makes it hard for air to circulate in and out. That's why it's often floppy eared dogs like spaniels and retrievers that get them. Once you find something that gets rid of the mites keep a good lookout for them returning and get them before they get established. Good luck with it. Your white saluki looks a real beaut. (saw her on Moochers).

LETS SEE WHAT YOUR SHOWING THIS YEAR
Maximus Ferret replied to terrierone's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
When it comes down to it the judge's can't tell what dog works or doesn't. They're trying to pick the dog that LOOKS best suited to work. That's why it's called a show. You SHOW your dog to the judge who LOOKS at it and gives his opinion. If judges start trying to pick dogs that definately really work then they'll have to pick dogs owned by people they know and that's even worse in my humble opinion. -

CRAIG NUTALL'S BITCH (SNOWY X JACK) match bitch
Maximus Ferret replied to coursing_1900's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Why wouldn't he? If they've good dogs and know how to condition them and can come up with the stake money then where's the problem? It's better than trying to run with people who run their mouth off then can't field a dog or find the money or don't turn up. Surely ??? because you shouldnt encorage muslims full stop! unless its to get back on the boat (plane probablie a bad idea) they came over here on then whip the plug out some distance out at sea. Well they did invent salukis and some would say greyhounds too! -

The cigar lighter plug on my blitz often comes a little loose so the light winks out until the plug is pushed fully home again. I can't believe I'm the only person this happens to. What do people do? tape it in? remove it altogether? replace it with a jack plug? Surely there's something that works. It drives me mad and the weight of the coiled cable means it keeps on happening.

This is my beardie border greyhound pup. She's 7 months old tomorrow and has a bit more greyhound than collie blood in her.

canine devocalisation ( de barking)
Maximus Ferret replied to barkbuster's topic in New Member Introductions
Best advice I can give, give them as much exercise as you can and buy anti bark collars, the give a mild electric shock when the dog barks. It might sound cruel but it's only a mild shock and you could have major problems if the dogs upset your neighbours. Well done for taking on rescue dogs and good luck with them. -
Think I'd drink the barrel of cider and leave the badger.

Been seeing does in kindle for a couple of weeks and young rabbits now.

Great post and pictures Stroller. Hope your son's saluki mends soon. -
Do you prefer to hunt on your own or in company? Personally I much prefer to hunt alone. I occasionally go out with others but only if they're very good friends, beginners who need a start or if I want to see a particular dog run (maybe to book a pup from or use at stud). I like to be in charge of where I go and when and I certainly don't want to show my best places to anyone else.
