I'm 64 years old and when I was a schoolboy I found a book about this in Newcastle Central Library. "The Saluki in art History and Sport", by Hope and David Waters, so a long time ago. Possibly 40's, 50's ? Maybe longer.
Hares and deer are the two nicest tasting meats though some birds are good too. Almost any game is better than farmed meat IMHO. Broiler chicken and the like have had the flavour bred out over the years.
I was only joking about the cars but know exactly what you mean about the eyesight issue.I still do fine with the blitz but do struggle a small bit with my LED torch. It's pretty bright but somehow just doesn't show things up so well. Shame really as it fits in a pocket like the blitz never would.
Do you find these days, that at the end of a night you sideswipe several parked cars on the way home too? (Or maybe that's just the end of night stiffener kicking in).
Me too. Most of the time I could get a rough idea what he was on about and he did some interesting threads. All the stuff about meeting up with people for a fight because they didn't agree with his opinion, well that was just silly but he certainly helped keep the forum lively.
It's best to start by switching to white light to run the dog. If the dog is one of those that realise they can still see a bit in the red you can start to switch for appropriate short runs, especially on squatters. To begin it needs patience as it's hard to tell if the dog can really see the rabbit. (He can smell it)
I find juggling lamp, filter and slip awkward so mostly don't use a filter. Has anyone a good hinge system for the filter?
It's good to see the pups grow and have pick of litter too but in my case it aint practical. Something like jigsaw's litter off of here was a great option for the lads that got pups. I got my current young one from a family of dogs I'd been following the progress of and I'm pleased enough with him.
I live in a small council house with four running dogs. I've bred pups before and would again but not in these circumstances, besides which, unless your bitch is a bit special you could probably buy better than you could breed if you look around carefully.
What age is he Redace? I've got a pup bred like that, just coming up to 12 months of age and looking v. similar. I thought he must have something like that in his breeding because of the rough hair over his shoulders.
Hope they're not totally gone. It'll be a bit sad if they are. Just before Christmas I found a pile of various carcasses including hares, just shot and dumped in the brambles in one of the blocks. Why would anyone lamp stuff with a rifle just to dump it, mindless b*****ds.(I'm presuming it was lamped). Can't see what enjoyment was in that.
Did you poke around the lowland forestry blocks? In this kind of weather they seem to go down off the hill into sheltered places. I think they don't like the rain much.
