Hi Edd, I'm not familiar with the Ruger 10/22. Is it a S/A action? I was looking for multiple shot bolt action. Yes please upload some pictures.

Looking for a decent but not too expensive .22lr setup. Ideally £200 max to include scope, bipod, sling and mod. Also looking for advice on .17hmr and .223 options. Any help, suggestions or advice would be appreciated. I have a Bettinsoli 12G OU MC EJ and a Webley & Scott 12G semi-hammer single I'd be interested in part exchanging or selling. I have an idea of how much I'm prepared to spend on each of the above rifles and I also have a very conservative value for the shotguns in mind.

Interested in this. Just waiting for FAC to arrive. All approved etc. Just postie slowing things down apparently. Will contact you when it arrives and hope it's still available.

Caught in the act!

Nothing in particular. It was more to make noise and hopefully scare it off. Failed miserably on that one! -

Not a bad idea but I've got about 3 acres. Would cost a fortune to fence it all off. Saying that, it costs a fortune to keep losing stock and everytime something happens they stop laying... -
I have a smallholding in North Yorkshire, I keep Chickens, Turkeys, Geese and Ducks. Recently I've had a lot of stock go missing, just odd ones, no mass kills (except for 15 pullets in one go a couple of weeks back) and I've been scratching my head trying to work out what's been taking them. I went out last night after dark to shut up the sheds and saw a Badger just about to go into the chicken shed. I shouted and ran over and it just sauntered off unphased. I'm now sure it's Badgers who've been taking my ducks, chickens and turkeys but I have no idea what I can actually do to stop them! Any

Mixy Rabbits

Went the other day and for the first time got more mixy rabbits than healthy ones. Granted I only went for an hour instead of my usual 3 or 4 but this is still worrying... -

Off again tomorrow evening. Hopefully there'll be a few less Mixy rabbits to contend with. Just out of interest, what cartridges does everyone use on rabbits? I have best results with Gamebore Super Game "High Bird" fibre wad in 32g No6 (12g) upto about 40 yards. I always get a clean kill and sometimes even take 2 with the same shell (obviously they've been stood close together). -

I guess once its established there's very little you can do but let it run its course. I could get a bulk batch of frontline and go out with the crop sprayer LOL! -
Mixy Rabbits

Nothing in the research I've read has mentioned that it can pass on to other species. Infact most pieces I've read have explained that it only affects rabbits and that even hares are immune. I managed to shoot about 20 last night (bearing in mind I only usually take a few for the pot that's a big bag for me!) and of those there were 12 showing advanced signs of Mixy. I gave 2 to the farm cats and the other 10 will be going through the mincer for dog food. The 8 healthy ones will be going into a curry for the weekend. Hopefully this will slow the spread and there are 12 less rabbits suf -

Will be up there today shooting as many poorly ones as I can. Will give some to the local keeper for baiting his traps and will give the rest to the dogs. -

Guess I'll have to give it a try and let you know... Failing that I'll ask my dogs -

Thanks for the quick reply. Obviously nobody likes to see an animal suffer so I'll probably shoot as many as I can to slow the spread and hopefully conserve my shooting for the future. Are you saying they'd be fine to eat? -
I am lucky enough to have a 300 acre permission with a serious amount of rabbits. I take 5 or 6 for the pot once or twice a week and the farmer seems happy with that. Unfortunately over the last month or so I've come across more and more rabbits with Myxomatosis. I shoot my rabbits "walked-up" with a shotgun so often don't get close enough to see whether they have this horrible disease (although with some it is very obvious). I'm at a loss as to what to do with these. I don't fancy eating diseased meat, nor do I want to discard them in the hedgerow and risk spreading the disease further. I e

Looks likea nice gun. Is it moderated?

Have seen a second hand SMK X19 for £145 with scope and silencer. Have also been offered a Hatsan Mod 60 for similar money but with no moderator. Which would be the better gun?
-
I have a BSA Meteor .22 that's seen better days. The barrel wobbles a bit and it needs new seals. I like the gun and I like the feel of it but I'm toying with the idea of getting a cheap full power outfit, gun/silencer/scope to replace it. This would be 12 ft/lb and hopefully a bit better for my requirements (rabbits and pigeons etc) Can anyone recommend anything? I don't really want to spend more than £150 so I'm looking at Hatsan, SPK(?) etc. I want full power and a scope, silencer would be desirable... Would I be better going for a second hand gun?

Well... I have one place in mind. They're a small farm and they rescue a lot of animals. They're forever out with an air rifle taking pot-shots at the buggers I wouldn't like to turn up there in huge numbers but maybe my two and another one or two should be fine. How far away are you?
-
Are they expensive?
-
Theyre into everything! Took them out on the moors yesterday and they spent 4 hours diving in and out of bushes, following their noses and chasing anything that moves! Great fun to watch and they always come back to a whistle. They discovered a couple of rabbit warrens in the depths of some gorse and seemed to get very excited. Thankfully they were quiet about it lol! Still working on the ratting but there are a lot of farms round here so shouldn't be too hard!

Took them up to my permission today but didn't let them after anything. They're past the puppy chasing each other stage which is good... We had a walk round the fields (on the lead), spent a couple of hours helping the farmer sure up some fencing (off the lead, they stayed close and amused themselves following their noses but didn't find anything) then went for a walk up the woods again following their noses. Definitely want to get them onto rats asap. I know of someone not so far away who goes but its a bit early in the season I think. Will drop him a text and see what he says. Thanks
-
Yes indeed you were. Thankyou!

Would you recommend starting them on rats, small rabbits or something else? Should I take them out together or one at a time? I'd thought about trying to find someone nearby who's taking their terrier ratting and seeing if I could tag along, wouldthat be a good start or are they likely to get over excited and distract the other dogs?

Took delivery of 2 JRTs from a "good working line" this afternoon. They're 9 months old and seem to be settling into their palatial run very well. Will wait a few weeks before I show them any rats or rabbits, build a bit of trust between us first. They've not been worked so far so I'd be grateful of any tips on how to take the first steps with them. I'd like to do it right first time! Any constructive advice welcomed. Pics will follow as soon as I get them off my phone
