Firing Pin (Shotgun)
hawkeye the brave replied to maktayla's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi hawekeye I was a bit more fortunate than you. My firing pin failed to fire from the cocked position. I have included some pics with this post so as to get a better idea of what the pins look like. The pin on the left is whole whereby the one on the right is the faulty one with the back part snapped off. Inside the trigger unit two hammers come forward to strike these parts of the pins hence pushing it forward to strike the primer. There are also two little springs to go over the actual firing pin itself. These are in good condition. Unfortunately I dont have the tools to make one of the -
Firing Pin (Shotgun)
hawkeye the brave replied to maktayla's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
try wd40 or tapping the side Tried that and tried a feeler gauge in between action and barrels but no joy ,my mate reckons the spring has distorted behind the pin thats why it won,t return . try shoving a cleaning rod down the bore and see if it will move with a tap, i assume you taken the fore stock off and tried to open it Yes first thing I tried ,also tried to recock it using forend on levers but no joy . -

Best .22 pellets for getting rabbits?
hawkeye the brave replied to Laurence_13's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
You need to test a variety of pellets in your rifle for accuracy and power ,you will need to be able to put a pellet consistantly in the kill zone i.e. bull on target and chrono your rifle with each type on ce you find one accurate enough , if you can,t hit the kill zone you should,nt shoot beyond that range ,as no two rifles are the same a test pack is good idea for pellets > I worded that wrongly, 3/5 kills are clean, I've applied for my firearms, and the gun I'm using is fine for the rabbits, just want a pellet that's more suitable, maybe a bit more range than the Pest Control's are -

My Old Faithfull
hawkeye the brave replied to hawkeye the brave's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
You sound as I think , I don,t know if any dog owner that does,nt work with their dog ever gets that connection that we do , I don,t know how far or how long I have spent over the years walking to exercise my dogs and actually working with them but if you make that connection with your dog it actually feels like he or she knows what your thinking and can anticipate your next move , I have felt a connection with a lot of my dogs but the previous two - lurcher and terrier not only made it with me but with each other , the average family pet never really gets the chance to think for itself or its -
My Old Faithfull
hawkeye the brave replied to hawkeye the brave's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Got a Whippet now (he was a year old when i lost the terrier) partly due to having few sighthounds before with my Terriers and partly beause you can,t replace with same ,tried that before and its never the same as your expectations of the replacement dog , I started my shooting years with gundogs - had spaniels and labs and although they are good retrievers and spaniels hunt well none of the gundogs come as good all round as a terrier and you can,t work a gundog with a sighthound like with a terrier , I think for all round hunting with gun or r.dog you just can,t beat them . Mine would ,hun -
Well its been just over a year now since I lost my last terrier and I still miss her like heck , she would have been 19 years old on March 5th this year ,when I bought her it was just a few months after getting a Lurcher pup (something I had wanted for long time) and hence with work and and training the lurcher I negleted the terrier training (partly due to resentment of my wife wanting the terrier ) bad timing , so it was never to have been my dog origninally , I kept training the lurcher and just took the terrier out for exercise and so the first few times I took the terrier out she did,nt
