Aumtumnbriar: what it means is that we can no longer hunt anything except rats and rabbits with lurchers, terriers or hounds! Hare coursing is gone, stag hunting is gone, fox hunting is gone!! You can use 2 hounds or dogs to flush those animals to a gun, but that's it! Of course you can kill any unprotected wild mammal with a bird of prey or a gun. That is now the law in this country.

Well there goes earthworth and coursing in America

I just copied this from the Bill itself online: `(1) the term `animal fighting venture' means any event which involves a fight between at least two animals and is conducted for purposes of sport, wagering, or entertainment except that the term `animal fighting venture' shall not be deemed to include any activity the primary purpose of which involves the use of one or more animals in hunting another animal [struck out->] or animals, such as waterfowl, bird, raccoon, or fox hunting [<-Struck out] ; Now I could be wrong, but it does look as though 'hunting' as an action is not in -
Its possible she could be suffering from some internal injury: internal bleeding will give pale gums: even if there are no signs of external injury could the dog have squashed her with its paws?? Time will tell but I'd get her to the vet to have her checked over.

Sorry, don't know how to post the link correctly co I copied it: hilarious, and quite impressive really: especially the call off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just hope some of the 'public' watched it: its for sure the government a**holes won't have. Very depressing.

Amazing photos: realy unusual angles too: the 2 black ones look like something out of an animated comic LOL

It sounds as though they're trying to compare her with a bull type! Salukis and their crosses aren't supposed to be heavily muscled: they are marathon runners, not boxers or sprinters! LOL

Their geordies man... Arrgh but that's where you's are both wrong.. .. they are neither monkey hangers or goerdie's because they are Northumbrians.. .. Not bad video footage all the same.. Millet Only just found this thread: LOVE the accent! "We call him the flying carpet" LOL Could listen to him all day.

Many many years ago I worked for an animal charity (NO! NOT the Arsepca!), but a local animal shelter which rehomed dogs of all types. It was mandatory to carry out pre-visits on homes in certain 'blackspot' areas, and for certain breeds. (This was long before the Dangerous Dogs Act came into being) Sometimes the most unlikely seeming people could be the best potential owners for certain dogs. A few examples spring to mind: 1) a settled travelling family wanted to add another German Shepherd to their existing pack of 3: I was the only person prepared to give them a chance and made the

That really is a nice pup Frank: I'm always impressed at how cat like and sure footed the Saluki types are, even when they're young.

I'd stick him back on the pain killers: I know long term use can cause liver damage but IMO its quality of life you want for the dog: better to live a shorter happier life than a longer miserable (not trying to say he's miserable : oh shit: damn computers I'm always worried that what I'm trying to say won't come across right in print, if you see what I mean). Anyway, that's just my opinion. About to put another old girl on Metacalm (she's 9 yars old) as she still loves a good run on the odd bunny and she's really depressed on the lead all the time. I take painkillers every day for my back:

I live in a village and I have to bring my cockerel in at night and he sits in a covered box in the shed until 8 am (weekdays) and 9am (weekends): got this from the environmental health officer after some complaints about his crowing in the wee hours of the morning. It may be worth your mate's while to contact the environmental health people if she has nothing to worry about (i.e. she KNOWS her dogs aren't causing a problem) as that way once the EV say it's OK the neighbour who's comlaining won't have a leg to stand on. Get her to ask them where she stands which will also then put her i

Fastdogz: do you know WHY he is lame? It might be worth taking him to a greyhound osteopath or running dog vet. If you know the cause of the lameness and whether it is joint (arthritis), muscular, tendon or whatever, then might you consider putting him on metacalm (pain killer), so you can let him have a little run, as long as that wouldn't make things a whole lot worse. Mmmm.......I'm not explaining myself very well! Is it the result of an old injury? My old lurcher was put on Metacalm for the last two years of her life as she was so arthritic, and it gave her a new lease of life for her

Fair nuff: nothing personal: I'm lucky I don't have to deal with that sort of person myself: I'd take great delight in having a few words with them! LOL. Like a trip to the vet not so long ago for a ferret with a bad abcess I hadn't been able to sort: took 9 month old lurcher along for a bit of getting used to strange places: she'd never been to the vets before: put ferret on surgery floor, dog and ferret wander about the surgery together sniffing together in all the corners and ferret pottering around dog's feet. Vet couldn't believe ferret wasn't trying to bite dog's feet, or that dog wasn

I find it hard to believe that even someone involved in ferret rescue could be so misinformed. Could this be a wind up? Or are you expecting tales of brutality towards ferrets to come from the hunters? Does anyone else smell a rat or am I being paranoid?

@ elisderyn: actually, what you've got it 'sudden onset delayed puberty' to give it the correct medical term. My midlife crisis never started: I was just odd from birth LOL
-
At this time of year if my dogs are working thick nettle beds they often get very itchy: terriers' ears and bellies and lurchers' muzzles: could that be the problem, or is it just on one side? How long has the patch been there: and could he have come into contact with any chemicals?
-
Good saying that: having agreed with the statement I have used the son of a dog who was better than his offspring and produced good animals: pups also throw back to the grandparents.

Personally I think that most men (not mine!) are far tidier than women: or is it just that they like to get away from the missus and spend such a lot of time in their sheds trying to find something to do? LOL

GETTING YOUR DOGS FITT
skycat replied to Cheshire Poacher's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Not RUNNING flat out like chasing something, but a steady trot or slow canter, under control on the lead: if your'e not used to it try walking fast or jogging on the road for a couple of miles, it'll really make your legs ache! What your'e trying to achieve with the dog is to toughen up the feet, tendons, and build a certain amount of stamina muscle as opposed to sprint muscle: they get that from chasing a rabbit over a short distance. If you just take a dog out totally unfit from its kennel and take it lamping its feet, muscles, tendons etc will not be in a condition to stand that sort of e -
Seen anything like this before?
skycat replied to Strong Stuff's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I agree: there's no way that dog should have its leg amputated. IMO the only dogs that can cope well with that are tiny terrier sort of things, and even then I'd never put a working dog on to 3 legs. Harsh maybe, but life's tough enough without having to handle that sort of infirmity: I know some would disagree, but that's just my opinion. -

What a bummer: can they not operate? Or is it just the tip of an iceberg, medically speaking. -
Stunning looking pup: how big will he make? Let's see some more pics...

From what I've seen, hernias are often hereditary, and contrary to popular opinion, NOT caused by the bitch pulling on the umbilical cord: I've watched my bitches chomping away at the cords and even pulling the pups round to wards them by the cords and NEVER caused a hernia. My vet told me that if the hernia is just fatty tissue protruding when the hole sealed there's not a problem: but if it is an 'open' hernia, where you can push what's sticking out back inside (gut tissue), then it needs to be sown up properly, especially in a bitch if you are going to breed from her.

Liar! Nothing special you say: I'd say.........just brilliant!
