Anyone else......refresher training?
skycat replied to a topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
quote:I find they are much easier to train when older and out of that headstrong phase...after about 2yrs old-ish. unquote. Couldn't agree more Moll: I reckon it's the same with kids: what normal young adult wants to spend the most exciting years of their lives sat in college? They'd sooner be out bungee jumping/free running/ climbing mountains/driving fast cars LOL It's no coincidence that the police and guide dog trainers take on dogs from 15 months onwards. thanks for reminding me of that Moll: when the scary monster winds me up again, and again..........and AGAIN! I'll just -
Sorry for you and your missus right now: makes it worse when you saved him once at the start of his life: at least you gave him a real good life and that's what counts.

Anyone else......refresher training?

Very impressive: and it's a terrier! But there's not many whose terriers can do that: LOL I'm the same in the summer: take one out on its own every day and do a bit of bonding/training etc: and don't they just love it. -
Only seen the change that obvious in one: the Stinky dog as I call her (though she doesn't: stink, I mean, but her name is Mink (y) and it rhymes with Stink! LOL Anyway, from being a noisy, pushy, irritating, annoying other dogs pup that you couldn't kennel or crate without on going tatnrums of the very vocal kind, she suddenly became:...............good, quiet, respectful etc, kennels quietly. More to the point: she has really started hunting properly instead of just running round like a headless chicken: you know the sort: sensible lurcher has just spotted a rabbit and starts stalki

Jeez Rabbiteer: was that a result of someone stepping on a mine in your pic? F*ckin wars!

Nice looking merley dog there

My face aches from laughing: then scroll down to the ultimate live version: even better! Thanks for finding that Charlote!

It seems to be a very sad fact in this sh*tty world that the more you put yourself out for people the more they crap on you. Having said that every now and then along comes someone fantastic who makes it all worth while: I'm talking dog rescue here, but the principle's the same. I hear what your'e saying Snoop, but don't give up on decent mates completely: just tie them down, interrogate them and get them to sign on their lives before you put yourself out for them!.

Can you show us a pic of the stopper? If the stopper was nearly sliced off with the cut underneath the stopper then it'll open up again and again as the scar tissue won't be strong enough to take the strain: if you find a pic of a dog running you'll see what I mean: when they put their front feet down at speed that stoper takes a huge amount of strain. I've had to take one of my dog's stoppers right off as the same thing kept happening: now I tape a small piece of sponge over where the stoper used to be to protect the leg when I'm working her.

Been following this thread with interest, and wondering just what it would be like to meet you all: KNOWING exactly  what you look like in the buff. Call me old fashioned, but men WAXING...? round their veg?! Shaving? Even worse! The crack, back and sack treatment might be necessary if your'e a gorilla type, but if someone puts a poll on to see HOW MANY do it would be interesting, oh and your ages as well! LOL Aw, go on, you virile beasts: you know your'e dying to put some pics of your beautiful bodies up on screen!

George Drake is definitely worth seeing: he'll tell you exactly what, if anything, is wrong with your dog, and fix it if it's fixable: I always take mine to him. He is a bit iffy about taking new people on now but if youv'e been reccomended by someone he knows there shouldn't be a problem.
-
Your'e right there, can't see from a photo exactly what the problem might be. He does look to be soft muscled in the thigh area and over the loins but then again, he's had his testosterone equipment removed so will not muscle up to the same degree as an entire animal if he was castrated very young. Again, difficult to tell from a pic but his spine does seem strangely prominent and slightly hunched looking over the loins. But it could just be the way he's standing. If your'e worried get him to a greyhound back man: lurchers trap nerves in their spines quite a lot which will affect his gait

If you can't 'find' any lying about LOL, the website for Heras Fencing is this: www.herasreadyfence.co.uk I enquired about it once and I think it's about £18 a panel which is 3.5 metres long and aprox 2 metres high. I think there are local suppliers all over the country so it's just a matter of getting them to give you details of the one nearest you.

I've always liked proper Shepherds, the good working sort with steady temperaments, and Snow must have passed on the lot to her daughters: I can't believe how biddable and intelligent mine is, and a dream to train: every time I take her out I come back with a big smile on my face cos she just wants to do what I ask her, willingly every time. She can even retrieve a stick I have handled, then thrown into a pile of other sticks and every time she comes back with the exact one I've thrown, using her nose to find it.
-
She looks great: is that the littlest one? How big is she? Mine weighs 25kilos!!! And is about 22": she's gonna be huge! I daren't let mine jump yet as she's so heavy, though I'm thrilled with her in every way. I'll put some pics up soon.

Doesn't work on the rabbits round here: they're born knowing what lamping is LOL

Couldn't agree more LB:

I'm having the same problem with my 11 month old: time to lay off the baby bunnies for a while methinks and go back to basics. Dummy: no problem, so now I'm going on to the rabbit skin covered dummy for a few weeks until that's good and ingrained into her wilful little head. Then stiff cold dead rabbits, then warm floppy dead rabbits until she is retrieving 100%, and THEN, back to the real thing. Fingers crossed, and I'm going to keep her well away from live running rabbits until we have the job sorted.

Crappy little digital camera!? Look pretty damn good to me.

Lovely pics Ossie. LB: have you got any 'after' pics of the two dreadfully skinny ones: did they come right? Sod it: I always have to edit my posts as I'm so dyslexic and forget to check the spelling!!
-
Yeah, I watched it: very interesting, especially the \Beardie: easy to see why many people just aren't suited to getting on with those dogs: hard work indeed!
-
yes the bitch killed 2 in january ,but she had a long lay off due to injury her tibia crest .but thankfully ok now and the dogs killed stuff recently but ive always had an decent experienced dog , my old bitch broke her neck coursing 3 weeks ago, and im a firm believer every hare a young dog runs it should be caught, cos its getting it into their head that thats the way it has to be it keeps the strike pattern going, so its nice to have that safeness option. i know dogs that run unbelievable but just dont strike!!which is fecking annoying which probably means they been run and run from a young

I'd bite your hand off at that price if I lived nearer: looks a very well made and smart job.
