WEll done: it's a bit like being a door to door salesman: you get umpteen 'no's' then finally someone says yes and you feel like youv'e won the lottery! Great feeling isn't it.

Thanks for all your enquiries folks: got more than enough takers for now but I'll put it back up if things change. Simoman: it's not costing me anything and I only have to go 200 yards round the corner to fetch it. I know what you mean: I was spending £90 a month on Landywoods (yeah I know, I've got too many dogs LOL), now I just get £50 worth every 2 months or so just to top up with and mix their veg with.

How do you reply to critics of of ferreting?
skycat replied to mooster's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I just ask them if they know how their 'factory farmed' meat lives: is it happily hopping/running/dustbathing/bonking/relaxing/feeding/playing in its natural environment eating natural foods? Then if they look bemused/blank etc I go into some real gory details of how the worst of the intensively reared animals live prior to their deaths: the best thing to do is to have on hand some photos of chickens/turkeys in those godawful fattening sheds, and the way they are grabbed and stuffed into crates before being transported terrified sometimes for hours to where they will be yanked out of those c -

Well this is nether for sale or wanted but I didn't know where else to put it: so..........this is the situation. My very kind local butcher lets me have his waste meat, trimmings etc. The only problem is that I just can't get through it all and it breaks my heart to dump perfectly good dog food. It is mostly stripped chicken carcases: fatty backs/carcase with the legs and breast meat taken off. Obviously there's still a bit of meat left on there. Wings too. Breast of lamb: ribs, the flaps etc. Beef trimmings (not many) and anything else he chucks my way. Loads of lamb and beef bones t

.....and a lot depends on how much money you want to spend on fuel. The 4x4s aren't the cheapest things on earth to run. I've got a Citroen Despatch, similar to the Peugot Expert (actually more than similar: same engine and body: not really sure what the difference is bar the name.) VERY economical as long as you don't go every where at 90mph, and much more room in them than nearly all 4x4s. I had an Isuzu Trooper van before and it was tiny in comparison. I've got my van fitted out with cages and storage underneath. You could even sleep in it with 3 or 4 dogs if you wanted to. Drives li

Curly: the Mink's sire is a bull/grey x collie/grey and her dam is Saluki lurcher with a bit of Deerhound in there too: she's thrown quite a bit to that ol' Saluki blood inside her head LOL!

Snoop: they reckon that if your'e into something for 10 years then your'e into it for life: apparently there's a lot of folks get into a hobby/interest or whatever, but about the 10 year mark they can get fed up with it: maybe it's a bit like marriage LOL I shall NEVER stop until they cart me off feet first.

The stinky dog will be entered this season, and the scary monster. My 2 main dogs will also be working: got a lot of rabbits down our way! LOL Scary monster: she'll be my main ferreting dog this year : And the 2 sisters: Minky now 14 months:

Just got a reply re my green dragonfly pic: this time from the Environment Agency, saying this......... This looks like the female emperor dragonfly (Anax imperator). The female is more green in colour on the abdomen while the male is blue over the abdomen. This species is confined to the South and East of the UK and is not very common. I wonder which one is correct, this last answer or the first one a few days ago from the British Dragonfly Society!

Most definitely YES. Brilliant stuff: the only thing you have to be careful of is not leaving it on for as long as you would a horse: I find that 5-6 hours is plenty, then leave the wound to breathe over night and repoultice next day if necessary (not usually necessary at all) I always use it wet and at just above skin temperature: seems to draw pus and foreign bodies out quicker. Takes down inflammation and swelling really fast and is also just as good on bruising. Brilliant for infected puncture wounds etc. Not had to use antibiotics for years now for these sort of things: plus it's cheap

My best beloved old Deer/Grey......never forgotten and the most special of all my dogs...she lives on in her daughters and grand daghters, and even a great grand daughter! Her daughter..........now 9 years old: she is mother to my rough coated young uns: Old Sonic, now 10 years old, and still bushes hard, though I don't use her to ground any more if I can help it though she'd still go if I let her: And the oldest last: Lunar, now 12 and still catching the odd rabbit if it makes a mistake LOL

martin: I sent the pic to a dragonfly site and today got the reply: Many thanks for your excellent photograph. The dragonfly is an Emperor (a male) that has only recently emerged from its underwater nymphal stage. Its normal colours have thus not yet developed fully - they will do so over the next day or so. If you look closely, the wings are also not entirely hardened off yet, giving them a rather glossy appearance.

That reminds me of a show we did many years ago (thankfully!) LOL WE went to camp overnight in a stately home park, had one of those old trailer tents with a big tent cum awning with a zippered door. We had decided to get there a day early to enjoy the peace and quiet before the show. After a quiet night's sleep something woke me at first light: shock horror! 3 dogs were missing: (They'd squeezed under the edge of this very old tent with no ground sheet. I rushed outside and tripped over a neat little pile of 2 hares and 3 rabbits stashed against the side of the tent. :thumbs-up: the

Haven't a clue: it's the first one I've seen that exact colour. Or is it just a variation on something else: don't know a lot about insects: just like looking at them LOL
-
What colour you looking for Skycat ? Do you want them for showing or just pets ? Couple of me Da'S...... Nikey: that's a nice looking silver duckwing. No, not for showing or anything: just like to have them around: they run loose in the garden. I think the colour is called 'splash': more or less white with a touch of blue on their wings. Apparently you get this colour by putting 2 lemon blues ( I think they're called that)together. A mate of mine gave me some eggs but unfortunately a dog killed the chicks. (not mine I might add!) The cock bird I have at the moment is a Golden Duc

Thought I'd try and get a few pics in focus LOL: not my strong point, so went out quietly with one dog and found this little chap squawking on the ground before it flew into a bush. Then moooching through a field of ste aside almost trod on this: would have done if I hadn't had my eyes peeled: perfect camouflage..... One of the lakes round here...... Took these in my back garden: the escapeee who always creeps under the edge of the run and goes exploring: reckon he thinks that if he flaps enough he'll fly........ mum and the other chicks stay in a safe place.....

Samba: I'm looking for some splash OEG or modern game bantys: have you got any or know where I could get some?
-
Can you not get whole minced chicken: bones and all? then mix that with the beef and minced veg: add some thick white lamb or beef fat (the sort that butchers usually trim off) If she's very active she probably needs more fat? Have you got a friendly butcher who will mince up waste chicken carcases for you plus about 15% hard fat? I'm sure Socks will tell me if I've got the ratio wrong but that's about what I'm feeding my young energetic dogs.

Brilliant pics Moll: love the goal keeping terrier pic

What a shocker: hope he's OK. Tip for bleeding : apply pressure to where the blood is coming from! And keep the pressure on until you can get the dog to the vets. DIfficult if your'e on your own I know, but any pressure is better than none just to slow the bleeding down.
