.222 OR .22-250 best fox round
3175darren replied to patterdaleboy's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi mate I have tried a few now, for my money if you go for 22/250 you might as well go for 243 loaded down to 75 grain h/p, at least then should you venture into deer stalking a bullet. Weight change and you are sorted with one rifle, however my favourite for a long time has been 222, but for some reason I decided to change to 223 last season and I am pleased with it, 52 grn hollow point bullet very accurate, not done anything further than 200 yds with it yet, if it's one fox rifle you are after either 222 or 223 will serve you well, I would check amo availability in you area for for both -
I use a P E S moderator they come along way down barrel, but are very good I have had mine on 270 243 and at present its on a 6.5x55 really good silencer not as big diameter as T8 and the Gun seems better balanced it is very much a preference thing

Mine is a remington 700,fairly heavy barrel, I have just measured it with the cleaning rod and brush, and its come out at one twist in 14.5 inch very slow twist rate,so might try some very light fast rounds to see what they are like, atb darren ps try the [one book one caliber] book from midway.cu.uk its the complete reloading manual for .223 you can get it in any caliber mind, I have a few, really good book and not too expensive neither every load for 223 you could want
-
They are good, initially I wanted to use the heavier bullets but the barrel twist on my gun is too slow, so tried 55 grain v max then the 52 grain hollow points, and settled with them I traded in my 222 which I wasn't happy about, but feel better now I got the 223 something like, been told to try varget powder, which will get a try at some point ATB Darren

I use reloader 7 with a 52 grain hollow point deadly round on fox

Has any one used this on mole traps, will it effect them, or put the moles off ??????????????? -
I was on a wind up mate. But, how many more mental taxi drivers have to around shooting people before something changes? Sorry missed that! I don't think the public will be so sympathic to the shooters for too much longer. We desperatly need good embassadors to the sport,we need to challenge these negative, comments thrown at us at every opportunity,in all areas of the sport, dogs and shooting, its time we started to work together over all disciplines not looking down noses at each other, remember the MP's who pushed the ban through did so beacause they though it was cruel,

How many urban deer, and its been acknowledged urban deer population is riseing rapidly, have fallen fowl of pet dogs in parks and rough ground, chances are its a much higher number than what we know to,and as the population rises they will come into contact with more and more dogs,And I can tell you now they are less controllable than most hunting dogs, but they will be no mention of these instances,or if the dog happens to be from working stock, though not a worker we the hunting fraternity will still get the blame,

Brain fogs caused by being a vegetarian, dont you find that most are just purely irrational, concrete thinkers who will not spend any time to consider any one elses point of view, you can not make any ground on them, the first time they see any rational in what you say, they immeadiatly close the conversation, its almost like they cant admit to themselves they are wrong, atb darren

It says £500 pounds reward, well whos paying that,RSPCA or private donator, What the men did was wrong absolutely nothing but bad press again, and two dogs in the care of the dog wardens, I wouldnt wish that on any dog,the public interest it seems to have generated, they will catch these two, I really wish the press wouldnt blow things up,thats why people cant view the sport impartially anymore, and the genuine people are wrongly labelled, that in its self is injustice, atb darren

wats the best way to cook it mate brown the jointed meat off in a pan after dusting with some seasoned flour soften a whole onion or 2 a crushed clove of garlic add the meat onion mix 2 a oven dish along with 2 tins baxters royal game soup slow cook @120 for 5/6 hrs till falling off the bone serve with mashed buttered tatties . may not be the best way but fooking lovely all the same on a cold day got a hare in the freezer might give that a go Shit that sounds good I am hungry now -
Was there any stock in the field?? You don't mention that , if not he would surely been arrested, the clause for shooting dogs is to protect livestock as in sheep cattle pigs and such.

If you think about it a league table would give the poorer shows an incentive to try, or a measure to aspire to, or even the very small good shows may see a crowd increase helping them drive profit, we all could benefit from it,
-
andyp Make sure you lift the back end up, and push the front tynes into the bottom of the run, which will just cover them they are a very good trap, take a bit of time its worth it, I catch a lot of moles in them best of luck Darren
-
It would be nice to see whats the best voted local show, shame we cant have a league table for them, that would be interesting if anyone knows how to set one up,Table to suit each discipline ie shooting terriers /lurchers value for money available facilities and such, atb darren
-
I wonder what will happen this yr. by that I mean attendance wise, the shows must suffer as money is getting tight for a lot of people, it may cause prices to drop a little that would be good,
-
I agree it's been poor, it was good for first couple or years though
-
Will it be any good this yr???????????

EATING HARE MEAT ???
3175darren replied to nitestalker 28's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
All the gamedealers I take them to, want them with guts in... exported to russia no doubt? Probably but must make the meat taste very strong,my farther used to bring loads back from gedney drove end off the sea wall in the 1970s,and hang em in the garage for a week before gutting em,I was never keen on them then, but when we got one off the pit stack with the dogs we would gut it,Immeadiatly to make it easy to carry, these tasted totally different to ones dad got, -
I am on my second now, sold my 07 disco 3 and went back to one,my first one we bought 3 yr old with 33,000 on clock sold it with 140,000 on clock and it never put a foot wrong,I changed a clutch and back springs but I did do alot of towing with it,the car is being run by a friend at the moment and still going strong, but that was a W reg and if I am honest it was thirsty,I do change the oil every 5,000 miles religiously, I have just bought a 06 plate with 36,000 miles on,and at moment cant fault it,alot better on fuel and decent off road, dispite haveing crap tyres on, If you get one and servi

It always amazes me when people put emotions around food, we are the only animals that do it,and it is only a small part of the population that do,which makes me pity them, in the sense that it must be a mental illness rather than rational, that makes them think like that, I always try and be polite saying that that is there way of living, and this is mine, if I have to respect there's then they must repect mine, what gets me is when they go into hitler mode and start dictating to me how it is wrong to kill things,

Same here but how many farmers mention the stuff when you speak to them,it seems alot of people used poisen for moles, when it was banned they gave up controling moles,I have the gear to use talunex gas ,which I did for a farmer, who had retired but still owned the land, he said it was cruel to use traps, but havnt used it for ages I do prefer traps alot more skill involved,

Good luck with the dogs Moll, well written look to the future dont dwell on the past,
