  1. That's the kind of idiot we are having to tolerate these days, that looked a small pen for a dozen hens
  2. I tried to watch it did my head in missis made me turn it off, good job I think,my old dad would turn in his grave
  3. Its funny companies must really be pushing these hard,as on three occasions this yr I have been asked by farmers what they are like, they are leaning towards trying one, every one I know who has, said dont bother I personally think they are for people in paulus's clip idiots who like to think they are profesionals,I think the new toy thing will wear off very quickly mate, but I am sure it is only legal to use one in a empty burrow, good luck darren
  4. I think we have to think of the morals,of shooting deer with small rifles Matt_hooks is correct and to be honest I have shot alot of deer and I think 223 might be good up to roe deer, but when you start to get above that, you really need to think about dropping it humanely and quickly, I know expeirienced rifle men can put bullets where they want them,I myself have stalked deer since I was 20 yr old and I am now 47,and out of choice and expeirience, I would go above 243 for red deer trust me they are some animal to stop, and yes I agree a 243 will do the job,but there is very little margin for e
  5. You can in scotland, and there was talk of altering the law for england but not sure how that ended
  6. I would prefer a little bit more, I have shot red with 243 they will do the job but the guns I used would not stablise the 100 grn bullets well enough for me,I do know of stags that have been shot in the engine room with 243 at sensible ranges that have ran off,my concern is that the bullet needs to exit in order to leave a good blood trail should this happen, when the area was searched for this stag, no signs of a exit wound were found,it was a 100 grn bullet fired by an expierienced man, with witness the impact was said to be sound right where it needed to be,they were unable to find the anim
  7. if you have a I phone look at the apps you can get, there are loads of calls on there some are superb through a cheap external speaker, mouse squeaks and everything,I still rely on polystyrene alot though,I used to be able to call off my hand very successfully, but I think a few missing teeth have screwed the harmonics,I have a mate who can still do it very well though

  10. This is good advice mate I myself have never had to clean ferrets ears out either, its a dangerous place to piss around,
  11. Can anyone tell me if these rifles are any good, all I want to do is shoot rats in buildings, every year I get small influx of rats, so didnt want to spend too much, some people say they are ok others say not I havnt owned an airgun for years so I thought I would ask for advice on the forum,I would want to silence it if possible,so I am wanting to know are they powerfull enough to do the job, which one is best, or should I scrap the idea and get something else, Can anyone advice please
  12. Can I ask is it inland or estuary that you prefere, and will you be bringing a dog with you,
  13. Theres plenty around you wil have to,speak to the locals Theres a hotel at powfoot, you can get on to solway there still I believe, its a while since I did mind, theres a farm just west of it, I think its called lady hall farm he charges,a small fee to access the solway from his ground, I live close to the solway and will make some enquiries when I get back to work and let you know, I presume its wildfowling you are after,
  14. And practise, practise, practise,is a real key it takes time before you can drop a net quietly, and efficiently it is well worth the effort but you can allso get low bags,do your home work,on the ground you intend to net, make sure all the access points are clear and easy to get through, any gates are well oiled and not squeaky, take note if the area has alot of light polution, which can make approach tricky, watch your weather very carefully, get a map of the fields and mark true north on it, and the hedge you intend to net, check the weather closely, when you see the wind is in your favour move
  15. Be careful a lot of people will tell you how good a dog is,truth is do your home work on the previous owner,if you find one unspoilt then you will have no problems as such, A pup is better mind, you never know wether you are buying somone elses problem,if its local ask to see it run or work, you may be lucky and drop on a dog thats really worth buying, but any serious hunting man wont sell a good dog,
  16. Not sure I would be too keen on finding a snake in one,I have had foxes in larsons and rats in cages when after squirrels and things, but never thought of a weasel in a mole run
  17. Would you believe it ,I lent some mole traps to the young lad at the farm at the back of me ,and look what he caught has anyone else done this, I havnt spoke to him properly to find out what he did to catch it
  18. i worked it out by hand once and 12yrds was the same zero as 75yrds with a 1 and 1/2 inch highspot at roughly 43yrds. What ammo you using for that paulus I use RWS at the moment,it's always handy to know where the front of the ballistic arc is,
  19. Same here I zero at 60yds but much past 100 with subs is pushing it, dont know about high velosities though never used them there shite dont bother Even the RWS ones I am not talking the stingers /yellow jackets or anything, like I say I have never had much reason to try them,I bought some remington subs couple of weeks ago to put me on, and they were proper useless, took em back what I had left,

  21. Is it me or has this s**t Increased massively,it seems to be constant warnings about the stuff,is there nothing that can be done about it,many thanks for the warning Moll atb darren
  22. Never done a proper test of them, regards deforming,I had them recomended to me,so I used them in my 222 and they did the job extremely well, suited the gun and gave good groups, certainly dropped foxes well very reliable, but didnt seem to group that well in my 223, it could have been my shooting/or loading saying that the 52 grn stuff I am using now is spot on, cant see a reason to change,I might try some very light 45 grain stuff in summer to see if it matches the gun, with it having a slow twist I have some long range rabbit sniping to do on a piece of land I have, and will try them then if I
  23. This little book has every load for 223 taken from all the load manufacturers, and the powder companies, A Max, V Max, Hornady, siera, lapua, all bullet weight combinations too, the lot mate with the powder companies, as many combinations as you could want, the trouble is it makes you want to try them all, the books only about £10, well worth it to ring them up, it is there but there site I think is not the best, to negotiate I spent two days trying to find a OAL gauge, got one from border barrels in the end, .338LM is right mate Amax is a very good bullet, I have used them alot, they are like
