Which rifle to apply for - 1st application
3175darren replied to fiona22's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Why not sudjest a sako quad,in 17hmr and 22 rimfire both calibers one gun see if they accept that,I have very little expeirience of 17 hmr on foxes, I think I have seen maybee two or three shot with one no more than 80yds, but people say they are capable, I myself would go larger for foxes though 222 or 223 -
I totally agree,Its not a legal requirement at all and I only do it if I am lamping near to pheasant shoots,or small villages, what gets me is the police cant use common sense, they have the idea that everyone with a gun,is a maniac where are the people skills in comunication if they stopped trying to get there armed response attendence figures up ,and rely on some old policeing tactics, I remember getting pulled yrs ago by an inquisitive bobby he was sat by my car waiting for me when I got back,as soon as he saw the decoys and net he asked me the farmers name, where I had permission checked my g

I see now I have bad standards, how the hell would you know that,I take alot of people rabbiting from time to time,Deers stalking and duckshooting, and I have never had any complaints,I personally hunt several thousand acres never had a complaint from the farmers either,WHAT I said earlier was my opinion thats all,and if you note I said if they are brought up right, and I agree a good one is worth there weight in gold, but I stand by my original comment £20 is top money for a kit mate, -

Ho god I am tempted, some day I will have one done, I allways wanted to try them with the heavier bullets for really long range,I was daft really but mine came at the right price,in top condition,I will shoot it for a couple of years, then get the remington action re barrelled, please let me know how you get on with yours having the 1in8 twist, atb Darren
-
I love the 223,never thought I would get over my 222 but I did superb round for foxes, mine has a slower twist 1in12 its a remington 700,I have met people who use them on roe in scotland and they really like them, but to be fair I havnt heard any one useing them on bigger deer,I use a 52 grn hollow point in mine and they really are deadly zx10mike getting one custom made has the right idea, I bet that will be a superb gun, be careful around the twist rate of the barrel, he is right to go for the faster twist for the heavier bullet, I am tempted to give border barrels a ring myself, atb Darren

Totally agree the prices are kept artificially high, America has it right, dispite popular belief not all americans are rolling in money, most are down to earth hard working individuals who love to hunt shoot and fish, they wont spent $1800 dollars on a pair of range finder binoculars, especially when the laser has only 12 month warranty they use cheaper options, alot of their rifles challenge european rifles in accuracy, reliability and quality and price it seems that the major distributors in england have got together on alot of things,we have magazines who test only the top of the range gear,gi -

I Have owned ferrets all my life,I am 47 yrs old I dont think I have ever had a ferret that would not work ,I have had some slow to mature but thats it,It is a ferrets natural instinct to work, its born to hunt and kill, and any ferret brought up right will work its arse off, regardless of its initial price most people I know would give you a ferret for a couple of quid,I got my last two from a ferret rescue,Both work really well alongside my 2 jills that I have bred from blood lines I have Had for yrs, so I stand by my original comment worlds gone mad £20 for a ferret kit and I dont care how it -

Has it a silencer ? Start simple check all your mounts I mean every screw make sure they are tight, I use lock tight on mine clean the silencer well, make sure that goes on tight, make sure the stock screws are tight and you can pass a piece of paper between the stock and The barrel ,set the parralax at infinity it's like a figure 8 on its side on the objective lense end. Of the scope the other thing are you letting you gun cool properly after setting up that could cause it, always set your rifle up on a clean cold barrel what I am saying is after zeroing the rifle let it cool right down, and
