  1. Good old hemp or as Andykelly said spun polly, trick is not to make it too thick and heavy, the problem with the thick heavy ones is they wont dry properly when hung and rot or cause other nets to rot by being in close proximity to them, every one gets the rabbit that will sit in the end of the hole, beacause the ferret is dealing with another and not close up behind it,I have seen that done with all types of net hemp/nylon/spun poly/ and irish lynen, garden twine seem to be too thick and solid, it allows the not to twist on the bite, and they end up slipping badly this usually shows up when the tw
  2. We used to use a block of coal tar soap, wash you hands in it,then your usual whistle on approach to the hutch,When you open the hutch make sure the first thing in the cage is the bar of soap, let the ferret bite on it it usually is a hard bite first time, leave it to spit and try to eject the taste from its mouth, then handle it do that for a while, usually around a week and the ferret soon learns to identify the smell before it has a bite,if you continually wash your hands in that soap for say a month, and its own memorie will do the rest, dont mess around when you pick them up neither, jerking your
  3. Thing is if the cull is within a small area they will have more chance to disrupt it, how big is the cull area?? And everyone they make a citizens arrest on, needs to sue for wrongfull arrest

I am no expert on them I know the farmer above me has a kelpie pure bred,he knows his kelpies he recons its got kelpie in it,I must admit they have similarities about them when I bought it the man of the house was not present, his wife told me the breeding, I wanted a beddy whippet and coudnt find one,so if there's major differences then I bow to your knowledge Sirious, this is the first lurcher I have owned for 30 yrs since I was 15 anyway, when I bought it I spoke to afew people who said get it, it wont disapoint you, some spoke of the huntaway being very vocal,[ mine isnt] the cattle dog being
  6. When I got mine I was told his dam was a lurcher bred from an austrailian cattle dog,the sire was a racing wippet,he is alot heavier built than I expected, thing is this does not seem to hinder him very quick off the mark, and agile in the turns, having said that it is a long time since I saw a good wippet run, so its hard for me to give a good working comparison, Leveller how tall is you dog?????????????????

  11. Good all round little dogs, mine seems to turn his hand to anything lamping /ferret work/ rat/ even retreives, pigeons crows and such, very hard little dogs they give there all when working, mine is really in his first year for work currently around 18 month old, 22 tts last time I checked, and a real pleasure to own,he has a few very small possesion faults, but skycat, has helped me with advice on that and things are progressing very nicely, I am not going to say they are the best at what they do,as they are some very capable breeds out there, but worth a try
  12. Really underestimated caliber,I grew up with them, never been without one used all three cartridge sizes, superb first gun, I learnt to shoot with one, I always take one ferreting. Before the lead ban I have used them on the side of a small flight pond, during the miners strike the 410 kept food on our table, nothing but fond memories of the little 410

  21. I think that is asking for gun club mate,if you are filling it in for use on land put a line through it, as they would use that info to contact the club to varify your membership, in order to prove reason to own a FAC,dont complicate things keep things as honest and straight as you can,and you should be fine, make sure you put all the land on that you intend to shoot that class of firearm on,if you are a member of a club then all the better, declare that as well, remember your first cert will probably have a close condition on it,you can only use your firearm on the land under the conditions it
