Ask them they won't bite you, most firearms officers will give reasonable advice, I will say no matter what people tell you the D.SC. courses are not compulsory to stalk deer, there are a lot of good stalkers out there that have never done it, it's no guarantee of a quality stalker, as for 243 well if you got one it leaves it open to stalk anywhere,north or south of the border, and they are very capable deer and fox rifles,

Well I suppose I will get corrected but sod it, I use 3 inch no 3 's and no 2 's on pinks, and provided I hit it, its down I am no expert but they are wild birds, not park birds, and I do tend to get a few, when I try, half choke in a 26 inch barrel, nothing special, you will be fine inland Scotland, rather than the softer hitting steel cartridges, used in England, ring the guy who's taking you out and ask what he uses, he wil know what range to expect them at,and if they are coming right in you might want no4's

I have had mine a while like Tyla, I bought it as a cheap shotgun. To take the knocks and not be worried, it's done that well I like it and shoot it a lot, but for clays and hide work I use a fabarm semi auto, and in fairness its a nice gun, apart from looks they both fire and cycle fine, both kill, it's a matter of preference, the newer hatsans are a lot better they say, for a rough gun to scrag around with, they are spot on in my opinion, but have no rear re-sale value, the markets flooded with them, but if you look around there's plenty of quality semi autos about at reasonable prices,
