  2. Couldnt agree more mate....id imagine compared to a dog catching a rabbit, a bird has a farrrrrrrrrrr better strike rate, not that im bothered, i have a dog, not got time for a hawk
  3. we used a goshawk and a ferret plenty of times, the ferret would be walking around out the hole and the gos wouldn't be interested....BUT....birds of prey are unpredictable at times
  4. ive heard the word cow legged or words to them effect before, some fella said its good that my dog doesnt have it, but didnt understand what he meant
  5. At least them rabbits will be there for you next week or the week after, some places around here if you took 10 rabbits there would be none left lol
  6. my dog was allowed to chase hard rabbits since a young age and yaps, hes getting better now tho after catching a few and only yaps from time to time. 1st dog, live and learn
  7. im a student anyway, cant afford to pay, getting my own land together now
  8. haha yeh just been reading the post down from this one. ive read them before about that place, sounds good, then people start commenting saying "it wernt that good" ha
  9. Thanks mate, i will work on what you have said. keeping on the lead and walking up to squaters!! i need to keep my own discipline, as i will be so tempted to letting him off.
  10. My whippet is 1 year old. i havent done much with him, apart from taking him out with the ferret and some lamping. Hes only caught when the ferret has bolted the rabbits for him. But i cant get the hang of the lamping, i understand about the weather, windy, slightly rainy?? I have got myself a lamp with red and white capability. I am sure the technique is passed on in the majority of cases, but as my hunting friend has birds of pray, hes never had a dog and doesnt know much on lamping. If theres anyone in the St Helens area who would be kind enough to let me come out with them, to sh
  11. seen it on animal rescue 24/7 i think it was the other week. These lads got caught in the next county with a full car, lurcher and a suspect range rover lol. they only got their car too off them coz ther was "faults with it", and they wernt even coursing just driving by lol
  12. great pictures, dog and ferret is great, wish mine where like that together, my ferret wants to just grip on the dogs face at times lol
  13. such a same, take it easy pal
  14. Yes hes a family pet aswell, but hes going in the right direction out in the field now. thanks mate
  15. Just a quick update, the dog is now 1 year old. He hasnt had a proper nights lamping as i have good looking land, but its a bit scarce for bunnys. But i take him on some other land just having a mooch with my ferret. I havent been netting the holes, as i would rather just see them run with the dog in close pursuit. Anyway, hes had a few good runs, but is getting caught out by the cover. He caught one last time i took him out last week with the ferret, and when i took him today, i bolted 4 bunnys for him, and i didnt hear a single yap out of him!! I hope i havent spoke to soon, but just tho
  16. My friend has one just like that but its only 3 and a bit months old, i said give her a slap on the nose everytime she does it?
  17. Alright mate, had my dog out a few times since we last spoke. Done a bit of work with the ferret (i lost one 3 weeks ago, so left with one), he doesnt pay attention to the ferret like he does at home, hes getting to know what the ferrets for and i am 100% confident with him. I havent been netting the holes just letting them run, with the dog close behind. You speak to your mate??

  18. your ferret bolted a fox? This is the second time ive heard of this, the ferret walked out fine apparently, but i know the lad wouldnt lie so i beleive him.
  19. I have just started taking my first dog(whippet) out with my ferret, how do you know its marking a hole? what sort of reactions does your dogs give? (just so i can look out for my dog doing similar things) Thanks
  20. Just keep taking your ferrets out, depends how keen ur ferrets are...ive seen a rabbit jump 3 foot off the ground out a hole with my ferret right behind it. My ferret has got better with age and experiance which is easily understandable.
  21. my ferrets have forever been getting out our garden for the last 3 years, but have always come back, until about 3 weeks ago one went missing from the garden and was apparently freaked out by a dog and we havent seen it since. They usually, remember where home is, and where the food at home is.
