    Ferrets wont go far if you have to leave them there.... i never use a locator as i cant afford one (student). I am put off going out now though, because my ferret seems to lay up everytime i go out. And , although i go back the next day or later on in the day and it will be ready to go home, there is a waste of meat down the hole. So i am waiting to lend one off a friend, i think its definately worth it if you can get one.

    Chicken legs are fine,right amount of meet and a bone to chew on. In summer months though dont put too much raw meet in their due to the flies getting at it.

    Birds know what the ferrets are for and usually dont go for them. One time my ferret backed its arse(sandy colour ferret) out a rabbit hole, the goshawk went for it, but pulled up last minute as if it knew it was a ferret. With the bird in a tree, the ferrets can walk outside the hole and it will be fine. Accidents im sure could happen though

    . What am i supposed to do dig up the whole of the warren? No mate, put a collar on it before you put it in...simples Only got one collar and it was a decent sized warren so we put two down. i cant afford ferret collars (student with no job)....its unfortunate that the ferret is gone, i would rather take it out with no collar than leave it stuck in a hutch, just wanted to know what could of happened to it.

    how do you keep losing your ferrets One went missing out the garden and the other(my mates), didnt come back out a rabbit hole. so i dont keep loosing them do i, ive lost one.

    Just to finish the post off, i have had no problems (touch wood) with the new ferret. It was supposed to be two ferrets joining my one, but we lost one of the ferrets. Bit of hissing goes on when it comes to food, but just glad mine has a bit of company again. All the best

    Had no collar on it, and the collared ferrets where just running around the warren as if theres nothing down there. What am i supposed to do dig up the whole of the warren?

    We went out yesterday with the ferrets and a goshawk. Ferreted a decent sized warren. First set of holes snow on the ground it become obvious that my ferret(had a locator on) was on a rabbit. As soon as i started to dig, it moved (due to the frozen ground i mate quite a bit of noise). A few minutes later, the other ferret which was also down the hole bolted the rabbit and chased it out the hole, and rather than having a sniff around like i have noticed they usually do, it ran straight back in the hole like it was spooked. It never come back out. We thought maybe it was on another rabbit,

    How do you stop them doing that without enouraging them not to go for rabbits?? I know when i take my whippet out for the first time with nets he will mouth them so need to know.

    Hi there.... I lost a ferret about 2 months ago, leaving me with one. I was thinking of looking for a friend which is also around 3 years old. Because as I am in uni, I don’t know where I will be in a few years and don’t want to land young ferrets with my mum. It’s getting cold now and the ferret appears to be cold in its hutch, despite the hutch being in the garage and there being plenty of bedding available, during the bad weather. I don’t know if this is to do with the fact it’s always had another ferret to sleep with for 3 years. I also thought of asking my hunting mate
