Today i went to a country fair at the village of Martel in the department of the Lot,France, it was quit a small affair but i had a go with a bow and arrow at Boar and Roe deer targets, it seems bow hunting is very popular in the area, i entered a free draw for a weeks Black Bear hunting in Canada. In one of the Marquees was a stand selling firearms, i was looking at a new double Baikel Rifle in 30.06 it came with some type of red dot scope, gun bag and a box of twenty rounds, it was selling for 899 euros which did not seem a bad price for close range woodland stalking or someone wanting to ge

I agree with previous posts, forget the remington cdl go for the T3, better trigger, proper magazine, great value.

Maybe not, but its not uncommon for a hunter to shoot his first deer, enjoy the moment and want to do it again, next thing you know he is buying his first rifle, and all the gear, and he is hooked, i see it all the time,

Hi Born Hunter In my first post i mentioned taking clients out, the SACS insurance does indeed cover you for a days stalking, the problem arises after you have shot your first deer, butchered it, and filled your freezer, you then shoot another and decide to sell it, at that point you are not covered by your basic SACS insurance, you need the enhanced package, which when added to your membership costs ends up about the same as the BDS, Cheers Geoff
-
Hi Born Hunter as i see it you pay around £35 for sacs including insurance, but if you want to take clients out stalking you need the enhanced package which costs another £30 so a total of £60 minus your THL discount so it is not half the price unless i am missing something ATB Geoff

Hi Born Hunter, could you please give the forum details of AHEM insurance so we can check if it is like for like as it sounds interesting thanks Geoff

If you are getting into stalking especially fallow stalking, save your pennies and buy a second hand pair of swaros 7x42 SLC or simular, I do a bit of guided stalking and often guests ask to try my binos and as yet i have not found better, its a fact that during the day most binos look good, its at last light when you are waiting for the buggers to come out you will see the difference, when you have used your swaros for say twenty five years send them back to the manufacturers and ask the to give them a service, they will come back with new eye cups lense covers and look as good as new and the

Sauer safetyA few days ago there was a post on another forum regarding the sauer safety position, i stated that once you have got used to it it is in the perfect position just lift your finger and you are ready to shoot.Yesterday Robin and i went out to look for a couple of fallow prickets to butcher for our landowners, we went to a permission where robin normally stalks and i wait in ambush, this time we decided to swap places and i was to stalk, i waited until robin was i position and then started stalking the wood, very slowly i made my way along a track watching the wind direction and glass

Hi Philluk We take out clients and our sucess rate is around 1 in 3 so our policy is, if we do not put a shootable deer in front of you on the third outing we make no charge for the session, Taking clients can be a very frustrating business as the fallow are so unpredictable often not venturing out until last light, one evening you may see fifty deer in a field only to find that the next evening they have vanished. We like to think that we give good value and the fact that our guests keep coming back must mean we are doing something right. cheers Geoff

hi Rake yes it was his first and i am sure it wont be his last, it was a pleasure to take him out cheers Geoff

Monday morning the alarm went off at 4am a quick cup of tea and slice of toast and i was out of the door, the wind was howling and a river of water was running as i drove over battery hill into hastings to pick up my stalking buddy who was waiting at the door, we loaded his kit and headed out towards heathfield to pick up our clients for a morning stalk, they were on time so we loaded there gear into the car and carried on to our destination, on arrival we parked the car and trailer and decided that as my client was a novice he would come with me to a highseat whilst robin took the other chap
