  4. have to agree shock collar is deffinatley the best option. alot of dogs will keep doing it if they see that taking a shout or a punch is worth the chase. a shock collar will very quickly let them know there getting punished for chasing sheep and its not tollorated. but dont mess about with the low settings put it right up and let them have it as soon as the first signs of them wanting or begining to chase them. trust after once or twice they should deffinately get the picture.
  5. so would it be safe to take the dogs to my vet to treat there wounds and say there of what? without any questions and if they do treat them they canot charge you with the cruetly part as you are treating them from a vet unles they can prove the marks/bites are of somthing else i dont think id like to chance it? there are some great vets out there who own working dogs thereself. theres one local to me and hes petitioning to legalise the hunting of deer with dogs. take anything to him he dont ask questions he just gets them back on the mend no questions asked. ask around between dog men you
  6. on my one i'd make him more gamer and on my other reduce his scent abilities as sometimes being bed cross puts his nose down a little more then i would like.
  7. mate totally gutted for you. i think you might be right they recon greyhounds are prone for there stomach twisting which can be fatal. they recon you have to leave them 12 hours after feeding at least to run them to lower the risks. but again gutted for you mate atb

  11. hes been a shooter for years and even if he didnt have the dog he'd be letting me on. he just asked when i was around on his could he bring his dog as hes trying to get in the running dog sport. they do pheasants and so on and use labs for retrieving but never ran a lurcher at night. hes an older bloke who just wants a bit of fun in the sport. this isnt the only farmer ive done it for so its more common then you think. dont get whats so hard to believe about it. most farmers land i use want some involment most the time. even if its just a simple as they have the rabbits for there dogs or for t
  12. see thats the thing i have now plenty of permission to go round. the last 2 years is hectic. it was just in that area it self, only had around 1000 acres but now its around 1400 with his farm plus the neighbours farm is around 800 acres. but thats little compared to my normal places i go. i could never run out of sport just be good company when my other mates cant go. i'd lamp every night if had the choice. just not as fun when on your own. so in all i dont mind. this is the thing most my land has come from where ive poached it before so in know what quarrys about its only been last 2 years i
  13. hi i went out for a walk today in the morning started with few miles of road work then bit of field work to keep them sharp. at the time i was on my permission when in the fields and i had the massive urge to cross over my boundries and keep going. after few thoughts just thought sod it jumped the fence and continued the dog work. within i'd say five fields i heard a quad thought here we go typical, then in the distance as expected a quad with two lads on, they pulled up doing the usual asking what i was doing and so on. at this same point my bed x comes out the bush with a bunny in his mouth
  14. no problems mate shes got a great home with you. you've got one of a kind there as you seen your self, she'l do you proud, keep in touch atb jamie ps and a big thanks to all the other lads and laddies who inquired.
  15. don't be silly fella its hard to beat a well bred bddey grey as an all rounder imo and experience i dont think he means it that way mate hes just advising not to buy one at a game fair. as like hes says most the time you aint got a clue what your getting. you would like to know a little more about your working dog then just what a guy trying to sell a dog tells you. plus alot of pups at game fairs are off alot of show not working types in my opinion thats what i ment mate, must try wordin what i say better befor it gets me in trouble lol yeah could tell, the other comments you said

  19. before you read this im not saying all whippets are like this. a good few whippets ive seen on the lamp are brilliant and serve a perpose well but ive found in bad weather these great performers dont seem to give the same working ability. now these are the same whippets in good and bad weather but often in heavy rain and when its very windy ive found them huddled to my leggs with there heads down and as a whole my lurchers done all the work but again been with others that are like the bloody sas and no stopping em . and a few of my mates whippets have had to be put back in the van. so i think
  20. Good on yer Jamie......Like said they do come along every now and again just not very often.I myself would seriously struggle to part wth a dog that I had taken on and put the time into traning, schooling and the like. but its every man to his own and I would rather see a man sell a good dog if he cant or dosn't want to look after it than see it wasted or even worse neglected. ATB being honest mate if i had the space she wouldnt of went anywhere. i didnt have the space when my mrs took her on when they were gonna pts at the track and struggled the last month. been desperate to find a kenne
  21. i agree no one would sell a good dog although sometimes it happens. yesturday i gave away the best working grey ive ever seen. due to rescuing her from a track when i was there with my trainer mates and not really having space. so sometimes very rarely it does happen. found her a great home though and we went for an hour walk. think they were impressed. she lifted one up coursed him into the bushes and picked him up in the bushes and retrieved straight out. she did get a cut though whilst out but once healed his gonna post few pics on here of her
