    I totally agree, i think the key is having your dogs fit before your first shoot day, i feed the night before as usual and nothing while hunting, if you are working them twice a week they should be fine, any more or they are looseing condition put them on 2 feeds a day on non hunting days. Mine hunt all year round so fittness has never been a problem. ATB Dave. I agree, fitness is the issue here, no dog needs a breakfast to put in a hard days work.     Ive got a beddy/whip x collie/whip/grey and she does very well indeed, for me anyway, and works well with the spaniel in the cover flushing for her, good in the day aswell but gets abit bored if there's no constant action, but miles better on the lamp. You don't come across these crosses very often, but crackers if you get a pup from working parents, especially 2nd cross on the sire/dam side ive found. I waited ages for one. The beddy just gives her a bit of fire, and as been said, the collie gives a touch of brain. Good cross i've found anyway

    Mate, i would advise to read anything by Joe Irving, especially Gundogs Their Learning Chain, very good book. Most people use a 210.5 whistle it would seem. That's what i use on my ESS. I think you would need to try the basic whistle commands on her first and see how you get on, at least then you would have an idea of what she does & doesn't respond to before you lay out some cash on training etc.. It will just reduce down what you need training wise if any. Are you just wanting her to pick up/retrieve or do you want to shoot over her etc?? In any case mate, sounds like you have a

    if she's already trained she will soon learn your own command's. the bloke would've used words like 'get on','lost' or 'hi lost' to send her out.while out i would expect he used one pip of the whistle for sit and a hand signal for sit.from there you can use directional signals to direct the dog.to get the dog to come back he would've used 3/4 short quick pips.to send her back he would of held his hand up in the sit command and then push it out in front of him and used a command like 'go back' Good advice there, she's probably on standard signals, it's good that the dog is looking

    I put bells on my pursenets when ferreting at night, makes it easier to know whats come out of a hole, a big bell rattle for a rabbit or a tinkle for the ferrret. Works for me anyhows

    Mine are on raw, but i do switch them occasionaly for a week at a time and the best one ive found is Chudleys Working Crunch. My dogs look good on it, icluding my spaniel, and ive noticed no difference in energy levels either. At £13 a bag, you can't go wrong. I fed Redmills once and they all went loopy and had the crumbliest shits ever. Working crunch for me.

    Good idea and can work. Last resort shock collar, when flushes, blow stop on whistle, if not stop, hard hit with collar. Soon learn. Dog that not stop when flush can get shot easy.

    I had one, fast as hell, had awesome prey drive and was game, had good feet but did pick up knocks, but after 5 years it took it's toll. So was rehomed to me mates mother as a pet
