  1. Cheers mate. Your right about the quad mate, I took everything bar the kitchen sink. The best thing was the lad who's got the quad shot home at 10 and brought back bacon sarnies, he's welcome ferreting everytime now.
  2. Good luck with the pup when it comes mate, hopefully you'll ge years of pleasure from it. Nice offer Troter, speak to you soon mate.
  3. Well done mate, thats some dog at 11 mate brilliant.
  4. Got out with the ferrets and dogs on some new permission yesterday, we had 9 but they were hard to bolt from these thick hedges. Got all of this for lamping though, + one of the lads who came out for his first day ferreting yesterday ( he's a shooter) has set us up with ferrets or dogs on another couple of farms down the road from here. This land is only 15 mins from my house happy days A quad for ferreting, I was spoiled yesterday
  5. Sounds like your new ferret done well mate nice one, defo put the collars on can save loads of time and result in a few more in the bag after a dig.
  6. Well done to the you and your new helper, thats it now he'll be harrassing you to go all the time
  7. As said mate, that is not a bad start at all. A couple of rabbits and experiance for your hob. You may want to concentrate on the smallish warrens at the minute 18 holes might be a bit much for him now. Well done though mate keep at it.
  8. Nice one mate a busy enough day by the sounds of it.
  9. Nice one mate top write up and great bag ,I can sympathise with the maggots, when I was a kid we travelled Ireland in a van, I fished every day, heaven, untill 2 pints escaped in the van my Dad didn't realise as me and my mum frantically found what we could ( you couldn't let the old man know he would've kiled me) he was a bit suspicious though, when there was flies everywhere a few weeks later
  10. cheers lads, Tegater, this was a proper hedge bloody thick and deep, would love to get onto some of those open buries I saw on your vid.
  11. Nice write up mate, would struggle to go without my jack she loves it. Hope you got a load of time left with yours,
  12. Cheers mate, top partner today with the sarnies ect + he lives in the middle of this land lucky git lol
  13. I know the feeling mate had the same myself today up to 5 ferrets in a huge hedge with loads of holes and just couldn't get decent bolts. Still a good write up mate and great pictures some cracking looking dogs too.
  14. Had a morning out on new permission today, and it was quite tough. We decided to try a big hedge between a cow field and an arable field. This was one big hedge and the ferrets had to work hard to push the rabbits to bolt, my jack russel was invaluble today taking a couple off the top of the hedge and putting enough pressure on a couple to make sure they hit the nets and not another hole in the vast warrens. We had the use of my mates quad and trailer today that was a big help it was his first time ferreting, he shot off at 10 and came back with bacon sarnies I'm gonna make sure he comes a lot
  15. Good write up mate, hope the dog mends well and is back at it soon.
  16. Nice one mate, you definately put the effort in and reap the rewards fair play to you and the dogs.
  17. Romany ( i think) made an interesting point a while ago, he mentioned that he kept tallys of game run and game caught for himself and for all those he had been out with. He said that often, when asked at a later date (years maybe), the dogs owners were often way way out in what they remembered their dogs catching, adding many to the bag. And there is nothing wrong with keeping a count for your own sake. I write down the numbers of rabbits ferreted on every trip, a long with where it was etc, so that i can accuratly tell the land owner and so that i can keep track myself of what land he
  18. Just go out and enjoy being out, if the dog misses a couple so be it if it nails every run brilliant. I personally enjoy reading lads posts on here of nights/days out wether it a couple or 100 hung on a fence, just enjoy your dogs lads.
  19. Nice one mate nothing better than getting the kids out ad by thelooks of it your lad loved it. Left work early yesterday to look after my 2 little ones ( my girls 3 my lads 6) for the aftenoon, told them we were taking the dogs out we grabbed a couple of ferrets and a few nets and had an hour and a half mooch on some permission. The kids loved it we had 3 rabbits one little dig and the others out of a bury under an old oak my lad had set 1 of the nets we caught in he was made up. The terrier also put a few out of the rough so we had a couple of good chases too, found a dozen mushrooms on
