  5. Good luck mate, must be nice to take fish on flies you tied yourself, full satisfaction Don't do a lot of fly fishing myself, mainly sea and coarse but appreciate the dedication that you salmon and sea trout boys have
  6. Like I said thy're not everyones cuppa tea
  7. Mines still a young she's had a few rabbits on the lamp and done ok ferreting, nice easy dog to have about and has started to work well with my terrier, she's 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy. Theres been a few threads on here about them put it into the search top right hand corner. I got mine for a little rabbiting dog and I'm sure she'll do fine at her jobs, ferreting, lamping and general mooching/bushing. My brothers got a first cross and she is a bigger set dog not a lot taller ( around 20") she'll start next season. A lot of lads have got them on here and most seem happy with them, but they're not
  8. good post mate to many p c hunters on here if you got a young dog it needs to be out as been said theres milkys out there in feb and the lad who started the post asked would it be ok to give is pup a few runs then every one thinks he is a summer hunter there is nothing wrong in getting a pup out for a few runs on rabbits better to learn its trade now than 5 months down the line and i dont think it was owt to do with running hares as its against the law any time of the year atb. Hi Bill Your right there mate hope the pups still doing well mine started to come good end of season, hence the oc
  9. My point exactly mate, you don't have to kill everything you see to keep the pup ticking over, and the season is getting shorter and shorter so if you stopped and started when you find pregnant does you would hardly ever get out. Although I will not run her next summer as I hope she will have seen enough to take a break. After reading on the ferreting section that people ferret all year round that I don't get
  10. My mate who sadly passed away recently owned the best lurcher I've seen run, gave me very happy childhood memories she lamped, ferreted and jumped like no dog I've seen since, but for me she was the dog that started my love of the game. My mates sorely missed and so is she.
  11. Took a dog out when i was around 17 was around 12months old lovely looking dog was gonna take it on if it was alright, was out with a mate and his experianced dog, let the dog watch my mates run a couple of rabbits and he was pulling like f*ck on the lead so next rabbit i slipped him he ran about 10 yrds then ran around in circles chasing his tail and barking. He stayed on the lead rest of the night and I gave him back the next morning.
  12. Think there's difference between giving a pup a couple of runs over the summer on some easy rabbits and going out and smashing every easy rabbit you see. My pup had just started to get it together end of last season and she'll get a couple of runs over the summer ( after a bit of rain) she'll also get worked more on all elements of basic training. Years ago it was any month with a R in it you could hunt, we were catching pregnant does ferreting in feb. When should you stop now? By the end of next season I hope the pup will not need ( in my mind) to have a couple of easy summer runs and she'll
  13. Looking at getting a kayak myself, got a small boat but like the idea of the ease of 'launching' a kayak. Good luck tomorrow should do well, I'm gonna get out early mon morn try a bit of plugging for bass, try and get some live eels and see how it goes
  14. HI Mate If you are a beginner mate I would go to your local tackle shop and ask for some advice on the local waters, tackle needed, baits etc, take a walk around the places you are thinking of fishing and have a look how others are fishing, ask the the anglers a couple of questions ( most people will be helpful, if there not they're idiots anyway) obviously they may not tell you everything they know about the water ( they've put the work in to find that out). Once you've got an idea you just gotta get out and do it. I'm not far from you in Devon and fish a bit in Somerset mainly on the r
  15. Was fishing the pier in Mevagissey, Cornwall when we were kids and my brother pulled in a shopping bag which had a packet of bacon and packet of sausages in it, he opened the packets and put a piece of sausage and bacon on the hook and dropped straight down the side ( crabbing really), after a little while had a bite and pulled in a flounder that was around 2lb in weight. Was looking at old photos the other day and there was one of him proud as punch holding the flounder up, happy days. Never tried sausage or bacon since, stick to peeler, rag ,lug ,squid etc. ATB Kev
  16. cheers kev thanks for that ill give him a bell No worries mate let us know how you get on
  17. As a kid used to do a small barn full of hay put long nets around it and sent the ferrets in had a few ( the old lurcher used to stand on top of the hay and watch the nets), caught a badly mixied one on a site we were working on ( it was in abad way and could hardly run) got some funny looks when I ran over and grabbed it and necked it, had one out of a stone wall last year just removed the stones and took it off the ferret.
  18. Nice pack there mate, really like the look of the beddy cross
  19. A few pics of mine, the last one was my lurchers first ferreting trip she looks the right way now (sometimes lol)
  20. I love bushing with my 2 my russel has done really well this year, she's caught a couple in the bushes her self( admittedly there only any good for the ferrets or soup lol), works well with the ferrets inc catching hole hoppers, marks well and has done a bit of ratting too. She tries her heart out every time and is quite obediant for a terrier ( this has got beter in the last couple of months). I love the daytime walks with her and my lurcher and next year I've got my brothers lurcher pup too happy days
  21. Thats a great offer on the peelers mate If your gonna fish live eels in the estuary you need to leave your beach gear at home, fish with a light rod ( coarse gear ,barbel rod or even match rod) and no more than 8lb line or braid on a small spinning reel. Attach a swivel and a 4-6ft trace and tie on a size 4 or 6 carp type hook. Lip hook the live eel and flick it out into the current and let it go with the flow (no weight) ( similar to stick float fishing in a river) there's no way you'll catch crabs and hopefully you'll catch some fish. If they've got eels on the back beach chances are th
