Thats good advice Johnny boy68, unless you've truly got the time to give to your dogs it's not fair getting them. I came away from running dogs for quite a while cause I knew i couldn't offer them the time they need, maybe your mate should walk with you for another season every weather good and bad nights/ days if he then feels he can offer a dog the time they need he should get himself one. Hopefully he does stick at it mate I guess your quite young lads and it's good that younger lads are still coming into it

whippet x bedlington or greyhound x bedlington

cheers mate, any other info would be great There's been a couple of these threads up recently mate check in the search at the top of the page theres loads of info on em For what it worth I've got a 3/4 1/4 whip beddy, she's only 11 mnths but has come on well good with the ferrets and coming on lanmping works well with my Jack Russel too. My brothers got 1st cross beddy whip much heavier built and more boisterous than mine she's about 8mnths now she came from hard working parents and I'm sure she'll become a good dog if she ever calms down she's fecking mad. If it's for rabbits I woul -
That dogs came on a treat mate, thats a great looking team you got there I've followed this thread as I stated before I'd be interested in breeding my JRT this way in years to come if she continues like she has, I think her drive and nose with extra speed would be a demon with the ferrets and out bushing, she's quite leggy any way so putting her with a whippet could throw some nice pups I'd think seems to have worked for you anyway mate fair play You never know one for the future maybe

3/4 greyXbeddie or 3/4 whipXbeddie....
NEWKID replied to sighthound1811's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I would say the main problem you would have would be finding decent beddy x greys as there definately seem to be more bull x around, I go out with a mate who runs a big bull X, it's a cracking dog and does what you would expect but it's not the sort of dog for me personally. I think now with rabbits/rats being legal quarry there seems to be more whippet x beddys ( supply for demand) around than grey x beddys is there enough decent beddy x greys around to compete with the currently more popular bull X.. As I said I found it difficult to find exactly what I wanted -
Nice one mate, I picked up 2 bits of permission last year down to my dogs being well behaved in front of the farmer/owner. Whilst working on one of the farms( replacing a barn roof) the farmer asked me if i would bring the pup up when she was ready as he would like to see her run, he was impressed with how she was around his cattle and kept saying what a nice dog she was ( I think he was after her really). I would say your dogs have done you proud mate whether thats because they are whippets or not I don't know.

3/4 greyXbeddie or 3/4 whipXbeddie....
NEWKID replied to sighthound1811's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I got a 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy, would have liked greyhound in the mix, but when I was buying her there was none around ( at least none that I could find). She's 11 mnths now and around 19" tts, it's early days but she's broken to the ferrets, started to mark, had a couple of bolters and had a few on the lamp we'll see next season how she goes as she'll be out most weekends with the ferrets and a couple of nights a week on the lamp. I've only got her for rabbits and I'm sure she'll be fine although in hindsight I think another couple of inches would have been handy for the lamping. The works be -
nice looking pup mate, all the best with her

Got out of the match scene years ago as it was all going to pulling as many over stocked pastie carp out of a puddle as you could in 5 hrs, I carried on fishing the river sometimes settling in to a swim sometimes roving with a bait apron you have to think on moving water, and adapt as the situation arises, I fished a lot on the tidal stretch of our river this again presented new problems as the depth of the river changes constantly and each swim can fish differently at different states of the tide, but there's some cracking fish in this stretch some real big bream ( if your prepared to sit it

Nice one Baz, roll on september you got a busy season coming up with the ferrets and dogs. Atb Kev

What were you catching from the barns? rats? No rabbits mate, used to put a long net around it, was an open barn with bales in, never big numbers but would always get a few
-
Hi mate You should have no problems keeping a lurcher in the house with your family dog, both my dogs live in they both work and are great with the kids too, alternatively they can be kenneled what ever suits you. As far as types if it's primarily a ferreting dog whippet x or straight whippets should be good or collie x greyhound are good rabbit dogs. ( I know other types are good as well) I've got a 11 mnth old whippet x beddlington she's done well around the ferrets and had a few on the lamp end of the season she should do well next season. As far as training get all the basics startyed

Think you boy's have said it all what a prick, no idea how to handle a ferret, waiting over the hole with a machete, and why did he keep sending the dog down the hole. What the f*ck was the dog doing to the rabbit at the end, this is the reason the general public don't understand what the genuine lads are all about, they'll watch something like that and we're all tarred with the same brush. Just another you tube clip to fuel the antis propaganda machine

Don't think I'd fancy putting a ferret through the brambles in case they found a hole could be a nightmare especially now with young around, my terrier was working through some thick bramble a while back could here her on rabbits but none would bolt, climbed in a bit myself and found there was holes in there that I never knew about would have been a pain in the arse to dig. Used to do a barn filled with bales years ago was pretty good and had a few out each time. Never done log piles though.

Good luck when you get your new ferrets mate. Good to see someone putting a bit of thought and effort into it for once fair play to you.....

I had a springer that was like that he was ran over sure he was dead, took him to the vets and he put him on the opposite side of the room and made me call him over, he pulled him self over to me the vet said he'll be fine, and he was. He fell down the cliff onto Barry Beach when we were fishing jumped straight up as if nothing had happened, jumped out of the back of the work van on the way home one night ( found him at the police station eventually). He was F***ing mental

Think there should be a thl award for the first member to post a pic of a cat they have just shaved a cock on

It's the piss you gotta be wary of more than a bite, mate lost a terrier to weils , was'nt up to date with the jabs. If your bitch has had her jabs and boosters should be ok. As said keep an eye on the wound. My terrier got bit on the nose last time ratting cleaned it out and some anti septic and she was fine. all the best kev

Was first taken out lamping/ferreting when i was 6 years old, 34 now so 28 years all told, had a long lay off though, could'nt give the dog the time it deserves but missed it like hell, started going out again a while back and got terrier, lurcher and ferrets plus my lad loves it he's only 5 would be out every day and night if his mother would let him
