Agree its too early to pick the sloes, they will be a bit sharp tasting, hence the old recipe of adding almonds to take the edge off.
October, freeze for a couple of days, tesco's own gin (tried with gordans-far to dry) 1lt bottle, half fill with sloes, add 500g sugar then fill the bottle to the top.
Do this all the time, left for xmas day, nice red, sweet alcoholic sloe gin, same with vodka too.
Will be trying with 'Tofoc' vodka, which is a Welsh toffy vodka, lovely and may be great with some berry fruit flavours in it
