markha replied to zini's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hi Si, yea Molly a good lad, I took them all for a tour round mountain rescue base and they were pretty surprised when I showed them our TETRA airwave comms! When your back home, get a few lads together and get an overnight 'in transit' at Capel Barracks, have a chat with Mjr Seaton to get it cleared as the gate staff are proper rule book, I had a guy from Royal Irish on a private skills week with me, he had just got back form the sand pit and still had his MOD90 and they wouldnt let him in to dos down. Take care speak soon. -
A phone call the other week from a friend being bothered by Charlie. Information was a vixen with cubs and in recent days had taken around 20 chickens/hens and was getting a bit bold. Naturally I offered to come over and have a mooch at some point. The weather hasn't been great for the past few days, but last night was rain free and fairly clear with a 1/2 moon so I took the drive over. Now, miss fox had been spotted walking brazenly up the track at mid morning without a care in the world and word had it that she would be out and about from 9pm onwards. A lamb had just died that mor

Landy, I know all about the plastic tips and mach 2 etc, however I never said anything about paying more for red tips than blue, I said I have never seen blue tips as my dealer has never had them and I mentioned the price my dealer charges for v-max and not that I pay more for one or t'other mate

Hornady V-max give me sub 1" groups at 100m and sub 2" groups at 170m and would probably get tighter if I went to a lighter trigger pull, however the new trigger on the 455 is pretty good and on its lowest tension mine breaks at just under 2lb. My dealer doesnt have blue tips and never has and currently pay about £15 for 50 v-max red tip which is a bit on the steep side.

Surplus to my needs I am selling a rare bit of kit. Kahles ZF95 6x42 sniper scope with Butler Creek flip front cover. Externally the scope has been re-enamelled in flat black. The glass can only be described as ' The colours and contrast you see with your MK1 eyeball is simply magnified by 6 times' Lenses are in top condition, image is superb as you would expect from the company that started it all off in the 1st place. This is a great scope in low light. This scope is absolutely bomb proof, its made from a single piece of solid steel, the reticle is as sturdy as it gets, you can b

What do you keep your licences & permission slips
markha replied to halloween man's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It depends on where you shoot, I shoot over some land where the police are on a drive by constantly and also areas where they like to have a quiet break time and have on occasion been approached for a general chat. So where do I keep my 'land authority forms'? In a large folder that's in my vehicle. Where do I keep my certificates? I keep them nice and safe on my person. Then if ever I get stopped and for what ever reason i have my signed copy of a land authority form with the land owners details and signature on etc along with OS maps of the land boundaries. And I can produce my ce -
browning a bolt,howa 1500,remmington 700,, 243
markha replied to tenbob's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi Tenbob, Im in the same boat at the moment regarding centre fire. Everyone keeps on plugging the Rem 700, eben the gunsmiths and those that shoot BR etc, I think its down to the sheer amount of them made and the very good back up for extra tweeking at sensible prices, plus the fact that the'apparent' sub MOA straight from the box on some of the models. I think the strength of brand wins for Remmy. I havent got round to looking at brownings yet but have been researching the Howas. I think you have to be honest about what you are going to use the rifle for and also how - If its lots o -
Well I did have a Hawke 3-12x50 on mine, however I could only just see the holes on paper targets at 100m. Now swapped scope off my AAs410 which is 6-18x44 and thats much better.

markha replied to David B Allen's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
An associate of mine whos ex Poole and is a long range marksman is extremely enthusiastic about his Rangemaster/Nightforce combination and he certainly knows his ballistics and shoots in the 1000m+ category. Also, if you have not come across it yet then head to UK Varminting as its all about long range. Also Precision Rifle Cheers Mark -
hehheehehehhahahahaaha Great gift from your wife though, I wouldn't grumble at all. Enjoy this rifle for longer. Mark

Cocpops please follow this link and then read the subsections: http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/wildlife-management/controlling-pests/ But for a quick recap: 'An Order has been made under Section 1 of the Pests Act 1954 by which England and Wales (except for the City of London, the Isles of Scilly and Skokholm Island) have been designated a Rabbit Clearance Area. In this area, every occupier of land is responsible for the killing or taking of wild rabbits on his land. Where it is not reasonably practical to destroy the rabbits, occupiers must take the necessary steps to preven

I do understand that we all have budgets, but never ever scrimp on insurance, the devil is in the detail and for me its BASC all the way, its not that expensive and just to make a point about detail, take Chimps recommendation for CCC3, yes its only £20 a year, and yes you get £10million civil and public liability insurance just like the CA and BASC. However the CCC3 policy does very clearly state that you get up to a maximum of £25,000 piblic liability defence legal bills!!!!!!! Yep that right Only £25K!!!! A Barrister in a negligence case will rack that up in a week! Kiss good by to

Boxes, boxes, boxes - Oh looks whats in this one!
markha replied to markha's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I managed to get away from work for a few hours on Monday basically to zero the scope. However with very stiff winds all day it wasnt a great success, I tried to set up the 100m target so I was shooting in to the wind as much as possible. Al done at the end of the afternoon I was managing 1.8" groups at 100m as an average with some shots in the same hole and other just touching. Its all work at the moment and wont get chance to get out till next week, hopefully Ill get a better day to have a proper zero. You can just see the 12x8 target at 100m -
Mikey, I have a twink mk2 in .22 size, Is this safe to use on my .17hmr??? Cheers Mark

There is subsonic special purpose 5.56 munition about, But then again you are seriously reducing the effective range of the round. There are some very good military/police only moderators made in the UK, but you will be paying a very high price for them, if you can even get hold of them! I tried one on a Rangemaster a few months back and was very surprised indeed at how well such a compact mod worked.

Hmmm, ballistic software comes up with a lot more than that............
