plenty of view's. helped no end! i've made a couple for an old aya-witch i'm not to fussed about but it is old so like to let the pins relax. i borrow my dad's lanbur now and again, that probally around 20 years old. it is in mint condition, me old man is funny about his kit. not a spot on it! a few weeks ago i took it claying and the bottom barrel miss fired 3 times i think. since i have bought some cheap plastic snap caps to let the pin springs relax it has not misfired since. fingers crossed! dad has always stored it pins cocked! 20 odd years for a lenbur is not bad a. i think i'll get some

adam scott replied to RogerTheCat's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
top man! well done. i went out yeasterday and had a few! they are harder to shoot and kill. but you'll get more if you stick at it a! -
what a day. got up at half four, first light. picked up me stap dad gary. been studiying this feild for days, so i know the flight lines. dropped off gary at one end of the feild and i headid for the other side. the crop was red wheat and pigeons have been on it in there plenty along with rooks, crows and quite alot of pewits to my suprise i also herd my first cookoo of the year. i set up my deeks 40 yards out. no need to push it. using the old faithful horse shoe shap i placed 1 rook decoy at the back around 15-20 yards away from my pattern. this did not work aswel as i'd hoped ,

wow. exellent going. i have a question for you. i have noticed that on the first couple of rabbits u shot, they were almost belly shots. not shoulder or head. i'm no expert but i alwys try to shoot for the shouloders or head of a rabbit for the quick kill. i mean we can never be perfect all the time! i'm just after advice. were these shots clean kills? only i have missed befor just like you said! above or below the head witch is a relitivly small target compared to the belly??

sorry to interupt the topic! but i'm loving your profile pic of the dog!!

thanks, i'll let u know. i've still got a couple of day's to do my reconisance. i dont wanna buy more than 2 rooks tho as i wont use them very often. 2 should do wont they?? i often just see one in the fields?

everyone on here is correct! practise practise practise! even if it is only a couple of shot's a day. get used to the idea of zeroing your site's all the time. u want them perfect if you are aiming for quarry. pace out your targets. get used to distances! so u know if u have to aim above the crosshair or below! air rifles are good untill about 45-50 yards at max strength. if your gun is new u need not worry about it not being powerful enough. as for farm owners! i almost knock on a door a week! i dont know them! i ask politely if i may shoot virmine on there land? they can only say no! a few s

wow thank you for the reply's! you guy's have done some seriouse shootin! air rifles are great cuz they are so quite arnt they! and as for that black rabbit! i have never seen one like it! and i've been walkin about for years! amazing! well i know u guys put me to shame with an air rifle! buy the way i use a gamo air rifle with a silencer on the end. not that it makes alot of difference a. air rifles are quiet anyhow. any how i over the moon with my 4! made good eatin too!!
-
is that an air gun?? well done! i went out this morning for a walk, did not c one rabbit very frustraiting!!
-
mate, why dont u look it up on google?? or go ask the farmer who's land u shoot on?
-
hello i will be shooting new land this friday coming, i have been watching the land today to figure out flight lines and such! the field is massive so i will take a friend to cover the far side. the crop is red wheat and the first time i have ever shot in the crop. pigeons on it in there plenty. but also there are plenty of rooks on the field today. i am thinking of a useing a couple of full bodied rook decoys to also bring them in. now correct me if i am wrong please. i will place my horse shoe pattern of pigeon decoys out as useual. 30-45 yard slightly to the left of me hide. then the ro

First outing on Pigeons
adam scott replied to Treacle Trackpad's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
choke what u fancy, i use 1/2 then 3/4. comfy seatbut light! hide built around you and not over you. horse shoe shaped pattern into the wind with the killing zone being in the middle of the shoe shape. i have waited 3 hours befor and then it picked up so whatever u can handle mate. deek's at 30 - 45 yards from hide, 12 deeks really to have better interest. freez what u shoot so they can be used for deeks in future or to be eaten. any thin from 6 to 7 1/2 shot i find will do the trick. always always check the day befor for flight lines! spend a good hour or two lookin at where they come from an -
good point! but i have also found that decoying in the same place one day to the next never serves. i try to move about alot more than just relying on one spot to provide all the time! after all would u go back to the spot you had been shot at yeasterday?? na but give it a month or so then i might shoot the same spot!
-
genius! would cilicone do the job? only askin cuz i got a tube if it in the van.
-
yeah i had one or two out the tree's prob would benafit with some lofters! was good fun. but think i'll stick to my shotgun now.
-
i wish to know how others have got on with a .22 air rifle. what's the best you've done in one day? last year i bought an air rifle, when i got it, all i wanted to do was go out and bag some virmin. my best was 4 rabbits in one walk. also i had 5 pigeons one day over deeks. has anyone had good day's like this? i felt very lucky with 4 rabbits.
-
yes mate! wise to let the owner of the property know that your gonna get one tho. or ask them if u can have one.
-
my guess! human. anythin else would eat the belly meat. does not look like it was killed for food. this is a waisted kill! looks like it was done for no reason! did u find the head or what was left of it?

Are flock coated decoys really better?
adam scott replied to potamkin's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
do not make the mistake of thinking shooting pigeons is the same as clays! pigeons change direction. but claying will get you swinging. i have never had a problem with plastic deek's. if your that worried, either add or replace your deek's with real ones after shooting them. try not to use really mangled ones from the shot. there is nothing better than the real thing. i tend not to if the pigeon's are coming in sweet. remember to prop up there heads with garden wire and tuck in there wings. pigeon will know if something is wrong.
