  1. just moved in with the misses, she has a 18 month old staff, timid as anything. never really considered taking her out, but walking her the other day and came across a pheasant shoot a couple of fields away. any way stood watching and after many shots i realized she was not bothered in the slightest. so on this basis i took her into some of my permission let her have a run and let off a shot at around 50 yards away. she did not batter an eye. to cut it short i now have been out with her around three times with the gun and she is great, even working hedgerows and flushing out a couple of ra
  2. helps no end thank you very much for your positive input. i would use a slug, but if memory serves i think you may have to have a fire arms license for that type of cartridge. i don't think that I'll be shooting them any time soon. i have only seen one on the land in 3 years, so i don't think it would have done too much damage. nice to c tho. didn't have enough time to shoot it with the camera so apologies. thanks for the help.
  3. i'm sure a 12 gauge shotgun with 5 shot cartridges in it would suffice at 10 yards. but thank you for the advice.
  4. out shooting for rabbits and pigeons this morning and a muntjack bolted straight across my path, i did not raise my gun as i am not sure what the rules are on shooting them this time of year in England. can anyone advise please?
  5. good work mate. looks really nice, subtle too. not as harsh as some camo's u see.
  6. please enlighten me. i have recently shot my first fox, and i squelled it in from 200 yards untill it was 10 ft from me and shot it clean dead. was a lovely feeling having a clean kill on my first fox! this method you have been talking about peg and tape is it? how does that work if you would not mind explaining?? thank you.
  7. the definition of a rimfire or a centerfire rifle cartrage. centerfire = haveing the primer at the center of the base of the cartrage. (like a shotgun cartrage) rimfire = have the primer around the rim of the baseof the cartrage.
  8. i think someone else better answer you questions buddy. i am only just getting into rifle shoting. have only ever been a shotgunner. some of the questions u ask i would like to know myself. i'm not sure what rifle u would get for foxes. but for rabbits i shall be getting a .22 + mod for stealth and a .17+mod for range. so when it comes to applying for the rifles u can put in for what u want and what would suit the job best! it wont cost anymore. i will put in for both. dont have to buy one strate away. the only thing that does cost is a vareation after u have your licence.
  9. cheers! have not seen anymore! i am still putting out bread for birds. are rats nocturnal?
  10. i have been in a very simular position. dont worry your sgc will be with u in a matter of days! mine took roughly 3 weeks, it all depends how busy they are. but i was goin out of my head waitin for it! they have taken the money and aslong as the officer who came to c you did not find anythin wrong with you on there police check you will be fine! anyone who has ever done anything wrong will be on a file with the police. i'm talking so much as a speeding ticket. he would have told you when he met you. i have shot one fox with my shotgun and recently have been out rabbiting with a rifle a few
  11. so i thought i might sit in the hedge one night with my pigeon hide set up waiting for rabbits to imerge. sure enough rabbits started comin out of the hedge one by one. i picked a few off with my air rifle for the quiet factor and i had my shot gun with me for back up! all was quite when this fox started to make it's way towards an opening in the hedge not 10 meters from me. i have never squelled for a fox befor but off i went squelling away and the fox started bounding towards me. i grabbed my shotgun trying to be quiet and keep the squelling going! i could not beleive how much this fox wan
  12. the same thing happened to me! i was shooting at pigeons on the ground and a circle of dust went up all around them but not on them! so they flew off. i changed from a 6 shot to a 6 1/2. and i also tightened up my chokes from 1/4-1/2 to a 1/2-3/4. now i know u cant change your chokes so try a 7-7 1/2 shot ( a bit of an extreem change). i would say change your make but you can fault eley! i've never had a problem with them. paper wads dont help patterns these days. so u have to pick the right shot i guess.
  13. my misses bloody pet rabbit has chewed up my application form!!! ironic a!!! yes i must not forget the sound modifier! can i ask whippeter69- why did you not put in for both on your fac??? then in the future u have the option! i think i will!
  14. hello again. Since writing my last topic i have been out yet again with the same .17hmr rifle . it was a different night. we started off bashin a few clayes with a silver pigeon (lovely gun), then headed out for the rabbits. i started drivin and me mate nick had the first shot with success. head shot at 97yrs this one i would later skin and freez. no more in that field so we headed to the next. i jumped on the back of the wagon. spotted my first rabbit. missed!!! damn it!!!! so moved on! i missed the next two rabbit's!!! not possible!!! i'm better than that. . we set a target up

  16. dont give up so easy! it's better in the long run if u teach yourself to shoot with both eye's open. it may take time but dont get to cumfortable shooting with one eye closed. if after say 3 times out claying u dont find yourself improving with both eyes open. fair enough use one eye. but give it a really good go. do all this in the knowlage that shooting should come naturally to you if u have done so well so early. so whatever you do - however you stand - sight - or hold your gun do it however feels the most comfortable to you! goodluck buddy! keep the good scores rolling!!
  17. i would also like to know this as in the future i can see my self applying for the same variation. so why could u not justify this by simply saying you are now doin alot more pest control i.e pigeons & rooks and so the extra shots will be needed to deal with the extra pest control area's or land u are now asserting yourself to. i'm not saying lie. but bend the truth a little. yes u should only apply for it if u really need the shots. it sounds like you do. so why not state that there is increased pigeon activity in you permission area? and if u dont deal with the problem the land

  19. i have recently gained over 1200 acres of land for pigeon and rabbit control. witch is amazing. what i did not expect was a trip out last night with the farm chargehand with his rifle. i think it was a .17 hmr is it\? i'm not sure. this was my first time out with a rifle. i have fired one befor and i am well aware of how far they can go. but JESUS!!! i have really been missing out. i got the impression this is a small rifle and by the look of the bullets it was. after a quick target practise to get to grips we were off in the truck for what seemed like miles. great to have so much land. in the
  20. great read mate! can i c 4 rook decoys there?? i went out yeasterday with 12 pigeon deek's and 1 rook deek! i had two rooks come into the deeks but i was to late to shoot them by the time i spotted them. was lookin the other way! tsss! nevermind! do them come into your deek's better with 4?? and what sort of pattern do ya use? i use a hourse shoe with pigeons and have the rooks no less than 10 yards away from the pattern.
  21. MATE! that is something else!! love it!! excellent footage! she came right up to you! i would love to c somethin like that!
