walking anway from quarry has not been mentioned!!!!

fair enough. i get your perspective and agree with it, perhaps if it was a hobby id be the same. i will still stand by the fact that they can be bred and developed, some dogs just seem to get that the fox is meant to be on top and do their best to get it there. i have a place for them.

who said it was?? not me. so no not bollocks thanks moorman. edited to add can people please read posts properly before replying. i have already stated soft dogs and dogs that left foxes past are not what IM talking about. and yes this included 10 min wanders, yo yos and your poodle crosses.

im a glad an agree with every word you say. been there and done it to and wouldnt change it for the world. if you do enough then you will encounter all these situation and take them in-hand. however when theres a job to be done and results to be got in the quickest possible time you need all the tools in your box. i agree with the gun remark and have rarely used lurchers with terriers... perhaps now you see where i come from. so for having all the tools in the box and back to the original question, a dog that does this well and puts game above ground quickly and efficiently and also shows

if its in a stop end then it stays till its dug to. simple. however in big places they are more often than not in a stop end. not many dog enter an earth and work their fox in a stop end where they find it, with your time digging im usre you will now there is generally movemnet first. noone talked of dogs being pushed past, your right they dont warrent breeding of. as for the talk of soft dogs, most good constiant bolters are not soft atall, and like ive said in my experince tend to go in hard and then settle down. its the intial flurry of activity that tends to get foxes going. would

the lad define his thoughts on a bolting dog as one that if it dosent bolt a fox will stay until jobs done. if you dont think some dogs naturally bolt foxes better than others or that some just have a knack for it then you ha vent done enough. in my experience its the ones that go in real hard with little baying and then settle off half a foot that get them shifted. there are dogs that pass this trait on and work to great affect and there is nothing wrong with breeding form them to get a type.if a fox is required to be ontop quickly why use a dog that will keep it under the turf. as i

theres no doubt some are alot better at bolting than others, just comes naturally. i see no problems with breeding from these to get a type, i have seen it work consistently too. horses for courses.

where did you get those answers? gone to ground is traditionally 3 long blows. there is no need to give sharp blast for that as in calls to get hounds moving. different huntsman blow different calls for terriermen but generally not the above. normally 1 long 3 short or 3 repation of the call for a whip.

pushing hounds to holla, or over track/ride or find drawn cover blank, move on gone away (accompanied by hounds, best sound anywhere)

and no offspring. have seen atleast 2 better. halfx wheaten grey.... took all deer species and anything else you put infront of her.... a real joy to have about and an easy pleasure to work. only had one litter and retired at just over 9. i know one thing for all these dogs, they are made and not bought. it takes alot of time, dedication and careful handling to produce dogs that are considered very good. thankfully there are quite a few out there and people to put in the time and the work in their chosen fields.

It's a shame you chopped Simoman's head off in that photo

Dont mean to put a bad light on things but my local national trust were all set to give me a apprentaship until they found out i worked my dogs in the area.....on the land of two of the biggest farm in the areas....never been to or anywere near anywere with that green leaf symbol since thats odd because i have permission on 5 different national trust estates run by 3 different people and they couldnt be more accommodating. the trust as an organization are a bunch of back stabbing shafting twats, but a good way to start if you play the system, yet never had a problem with country sport

-
i think you have missed the point of my post. i am all to aware of what you called hard and "hunt" work and because of this im also aware that alot of the very good dogs will happily do 8 seasons and fair very very well and produce lots of good dogs that will in turn lasts seasons. If a dog is getting good results and has the mind and body to last a good number of seasons then there is no reasons atall to breed from a dog that dosent. some dogs die in their line of duty for many reasons but these are generally freak events and not as regular as some folk portray and certainly do not reflect a

perhaps try the national trust and similar organisations, there used to be a site called countryside-jobs that was full of jobs from local councils and things doing country type work and volunteering and apprenticeships. would be worth doing for a few years.
