Theoben Gas Ram
barrywhite replied to TheYorkshireHunter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
you need a spring press .I had to file a little of off the cross pin that holds the main spring in the gun.The part of the pin that holds the spring guide in place. Not to much (T W Chambers part number DP008) The gun did shoot well for a time at bang on the limit 177 .The ram failed after a time,so gone back to a spring . The add for the ram likes to stat how a spring loses power from the word go but some power lose can be recovered from a spring with washers. When the gas leaks out of the ram the power loss has to be lived . -
I had that problem .I ran a drill through the silencer about .5 of a mill bigger than the hole in the silencer .It worked fine but I was prepared to accept that it may have destriod the silencer .

have you damadged the end of the barrel [crown] or got a piece of tape stuck there .just a small dent or a tiny piece of tape or paint .
-
I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS TRUE HOPE SOMEONE CAN SAY YES OR NO .A long time ago I was lead to belive if an air rifle had the stock shortend so it was a pistol stock and the barrel was 12 inches long the gun was still an air rifle .and if an air rifle had the barrel shortened to what ever you like but it still had the full rifle stock it was still an air rifle .

holland has no power limits on air guns I think .but you cant have a toy gun or air gun that looks like a firearm this is a crime .I might be wrong .

lookin for a take down gun
barrywhite replied to kitch's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I got mine to shot ok .by making a ptfe and brass hammer that slid on the barrel and polished every thing.and set the valve to shoot heavy pellets [bisly mag, logan penertrators] at -12 ftlbs .So when you shot normal pellets 14 to 16 grain they would come out at 10.5 .If I shot two airarms pellets 16 grain each at once (16 x 2 =32 grain)they would ecceed 12ftlbs .waste of time .and it gives you a sore neck .and they are not cheap . sold mine and got a hw 100. -

NOT A STEALTH .NOT A STEALTH .get something with a air regulator . -
due to the big and lovely rainbow trajectory of a 12 ftlbs 22 the error due to cant angle will be grater also .
-
12 ftlbs 177.you can shot a heavy 177 pellet in gun if you want it to be like a 22 .A light 177 pellet will stop a rabbit at 60 yards + no problem if you hit it right.

What are the best pellets for rabbits
barrywhite replied to Alfybaby21's topic in General Airgun Discussion
lead domed pellets.they keep there energy better ,so have more down range power .and they are accurate .all the other pellets are just gimmicks -
Hatsan air rifle problem
barrywhite replied to dai bando's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
somthing may be out of center inside the silencer .the pellets hit the silencer so you may clear the obstruction with a round file or drill.or the thread on the barrel my be out of center .can you take the silencer apart? is the silencer nice and tight and not moving when in place? -
cutting the spring
barrywhite replied to lurchermania's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
cutting a spring can give more power if the spring is far to strong .I had a gun that was shooting at 12.5 ftlbs .SO I cut the spring a bit 13 ftlbs a bit more 13.5 a little more 14 .then I cut more and more until the power droped to 11.5 .the guns max power is 14 ftlbs . the spring was so strong the piston bounced at the end of the stoke losing power .Then at 14 ftlbs the spring was the perfect strength for the gun to get max power but illegal .So I cut more spring to take the guns power down to 11.5 . -
cutting the spring
barrywhite replied to lurchermania's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
does it have to be cut? you can cut the spring with an angle grinder or grinding wheel.to finish the spring properly ?????? all i have ever done is cut springs never bothered to flaten them with heat i didn t wont to mess up the hardernig and tempering of the spring. -
for shooting rats on my mates farm I have used a headmounted night vison monocular and a laser signt on my rifle.I can see were the rats are and walk around in the dark .they dont seem as spooked as rabbits by a little sound so to get close enough for a shot is ezey. The rifle can be used day and night no cliping sights on and off ect a scope and a laser [the laser on my gun is mounted on the barrle so I can check if my gun is zeroed if the crosshiar and the laser line up the sights are on.].the main problem are the laser is to bright so I choke of light with tape the other problem is the head

a gas ram can be gotten from theoben .It will reduce a lot of sound .I have had one and it failed quite soon .It did shoot well for a time but lost power and leaked oil. I have since gone back to a tuned spring .I fell it shoots better and quiter with a tuned spring ,spring guide and top hat.I like the spring better in a lightning .I was told if you wont a gas ram get a gasram gun like theoben hw90 ect .Dont mess with the drope in gas rams .I fell this was good advice but I had to know for my self .Get a tuned spring in your lightning . OTHERS WILL DISAGREE it is up to you .I can only tell yo

separate the man from the boys
barrywhite replied to hunter1989's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I like spring guns alot find them as accurate as pcp .If out shooting and you get bored, nothing to shoot but rocks you can shoot rocks all day .No filling of an air cilinder to worry about .I have just started with pcp because 100 times more QUITE that is the only reason I use pcp. -
yes I am through.MY HAWKE SR 12 RECTICAL SCOPE HAS A MAGNIFICATION AJUSTMENT OF 6X TO 18X .SORRY YOUR HAS NOT.

bsa xl tactical review ?
barrywhite replied to lewis collins's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I have a lightning in 177 .it has to be tuned with a nice spring and springuide .the gun is light weight .out hunting that is a plus but it is hard to shoot because it is light weight [the gun is accurate with practice} .I have a 97k also( untuned ).I like this gun better have gotten used to the weight when out hunting. For the price of a bsa you could get a better gun as mentioned. -
A HAND HELD WITH A LASER ON THE GUN WORKS WELL .MOUNT THE HAND ON THE GUN OR YOUR HEAD .AND YOU CAN SEE THE LASER AT NIGHT NO PROBLEM .CUT THE LASER LIGHT DOWN A BIT WITH TAPE AND A PIN HOLE IN IT .
-
I dont think it is posible to make a bsa metor go over 12 ftlbs with just a spring.I may be wrong .A to powerfull spring may make you lose power or damadge the gun for sure .
-
put something that mesures 3 inchs 25 ...50 ...75...yards ect .check the magnification .if my magnification is set at 7.5x it is realy 9x .So on my scope if I want 9x mag I set the mag ring on the scope to 7.5x .This error is for all magnifications.

get a pump .not to big a problem .if you shoot a lot .if you shoot a little not so good
-
