Breeding Genetics?? Info please
BredtoHunt replied to Francentey-FTB's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
If breeding was a perfect science you would get 1/2 white bodied 1/2 coloured. Genetics seem to pay no attention to mathematics so the outcome will only be known after the litter is here. Good Luck. -
If they are from his old line bred to working stock, go for it. Mine go back to Bethane Crib via JJ's borders.

Sounds like she was a good one for you and your family. Job well done Jade. RIP -
Working Borders exist. You may have to spend a bit of time and research to find em and even more to assure thier breeders that you are "the real deal". Went from the other side of the pond to a working kennel on the Emerald Isle. Was not disappointed in what I found there and am very satisfied in what came back home with me. Black dogs are great. IMHO the a lot of thier good traits can be seen in good working Borders and very likely came from the Border Blood instilled early on. The every mans black dog culture has indeed created a lot of good workers. Again IMHO this is a far differe

deben long range "help"
BredtoHunt replied to matty swinbank 123's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The LRT will do exactly as it says. It is quick, easy to use and quite accurate if used properly. The B&F is in a different league and will locate to a much further range. If the LRT's range is suitable for the work you do and suits your budget go for it. If not The digital locators are great and with the downsized collar are quite appealing. -
Genetics in its simplist form is that a dog has inherited one gene from each parent. For a terrier to express (show) white it must have 2 white genes (ww) as white is recessive and any color genes get expressed over the white genes. (ww) will express white (cc) will express color (cw) will express color The first cross of a white (ww) to a dog that has only color genes (cc) will produce all (cw) non white dogs. Cross the (cw) terrier back to (ww) and you will mathematically have half (cw) colored and half (ww) white dogs. As we all know in breeding mathematics don't always get expresse

Not sure what you mean by Tuning? Is the depth off by a lot. Did it happen all of a sudden? If so there is probably a break in the internal antenna.

Coyotehunter: If ya want some good digging and some challenging nuisance control feel free to join me about an hour from you this year right after the first cut is off. If we get there early am there is a good little pub that opens about noon.

In the Areas around me north eastern USA and Southern part of Canada it is very simple. If your mad about digging terriers you will be digging groundhogs. They are the pretty much the most abundant summer quarry. South of here you will find some coons in the ground in summer to get away from the heat but not very many. Those are usually so small they are a breeze. Digging groundhogs with fairly consistent success takes good effort on both the terrier and the mans behalf. Small dogs can get up to them easier but a medium sized terrier with heart can work em. Most of the repairs we

Yep you are the Luckiest SOB that I know.. Keep it up. Good job. -
Sorry mate but you are IMO way off the mark .If the two parents are that good then put them to another of the same breed .Too many people breeding for the sake of it and not for the right reason which is to provide future workers ,nothing else .Ive seen plenty of the sort you speak about but not many go on to reproduce anything decent .Maybe fixing something with a brother ,sister mating may work but times too precious for maybe's.The breeds were created by men who knew the game and knew what they wanted and to most of us that holds true today ,why f**k up years of creation by bastardising a b

Dos Equis?????? They pull all the good beer out of the coolers over there? Helluva Day. How did you make that possie look soooooo small Glad to see the wee man is still giving you some exercise. Keep it going. -
Good questions Cleanspade. Those that would go outside are more than likely the purists "Working Terrier Purists". Asked a mate what did he think made the best working terrier, his answer "Border X Lakeland". I tend to concur that first cross makes for some real good working terriers as long as they are out of type purisits that have bred best worker to best worker. In other words it is all good as long as the folks arranging the breeding have thier heads in the right place. Best worker to best worker reguardless of if you are a type purist or a working terrier purist will never
