Hi mate, I guess somebody has to come from Stags country Originally from Bolsover now live near Worksop. Dyed in the wool Spireite Though spent 12 years in Bournemouth in between times. I popped to Mansfield a few days ago mate for some pellets. Mansfield Gun Centre on Chesterfield Rd. £12.90 a tin for AA Fields 5.52. Back to bulk buyimg online from, now on

I have an original A&M Twink silencer, and very good it is too. I might take a pop over and have a look at the mark 2 version and see how it performs, only about 7 miles from me. Last time I went I nearly coughed up for a lightweight cylinder for the HW100, might not be able to resist a second time

Does heat affect muzzel velocity on a pcp?
stevieskin replied to masmiffy's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Heat does affect muzzle velocity to a degree. Most PCP will show higher velocity when ambient temp is higher. Conversely many will show a drop in power when used in the depths of winter. Its not all to do with air temp either, its depends how the lubricants used in the gun react to temp changes. There is a vid on from Cubbleycat on you tube about this. Shows very convincingly how just removing the factory grease and using a light oil significantly cut the power drop when used in winter conditions. One other thing, if you are using a Combro, they are known to often give erroneous readin -
You dont have to "apply" for one mate, but you do have to abide by them. As long as you are legally entitled to shoot on the land you are on and meet the requirenments of the General Licences then you can shoot the species on the licences.

Falcons are very well made pellets too. I weighed a whole tin one by one and they were the best I have ever tested for consistancy. Though maybe to do with the dies being brand new and maybe more variation will occur when they are worn in a bit ??
-
Just a quickie about the Falcon Accuracy Plus pellets. My Hw100 .22 shoots them better than Accupells , and as good as AA Fields. Trajectory is nice and flat as they leave the barrel 45 fps faster than the Fields. very accurate on paper targets out to 55 yards, just have not tried them in the hunting field yet. I seem to have a mental block about the heavier pellets hitting power being better, though loads of people are saying the Falcons are just as effective on live quarry.

The usual difference between different JSB variants of similar pellets is the skirt thickness and the counterbore shape and depth. FX and Fields are identical, indicating they are from the same dies.

KDR, just read the relevant general licenses mate. If you are convinced after reading them that you are in the right to shoot them then go for it. If you have any doubts then leave well alone mate. It is surprising how many people seem to think that the general licenses are a "free for all" to shoot any bird listed on them. There are specific conditions that must be met. Misuse of the licences can only mean more restrictions on our hobby in the future.

May or may not be relevant to you, but I went with BASC after being told by several farmers I visited they would not let anyone on their land without it. They dismissed things like BASA as "mickey mouse outfits" who would not be there if ever you needed them. I am not saying these landowners are correct in their assessment, but their opinions are what matters when it comes to getting permissions.
-
Why would they need to change the law because of kids with air rifles? The existing "without good reason" law would apply in that case anyway. I think they were making it up as they went mate, they got called out and decided they were going to get a "result" somehow.
-
You are allowed to carry an unloaded air rifle in a case in a public place if you can show good reason. Travelling to and from a shoot you have permission on is good reason and therefore legal.

Been to see farmer this afternoon. Lovely bloke , very approachable and friendly. Outcome is I got my permission all signed up. 120 Acres of prime bunnie land, loads of warrens in the banks bordeing his fields.

HW100 consistant performer.

I know what you mean mate. I quite fancy the new FSB model in .177, trouble is the Mrs seems to have selective hearing when I mention a new gun -
Thanks for all the good wishes and tips guys. Quite lucky to even get the chance of the shoot if truth be known. Farmer is a tennant on property belonging to a very large estate covering 15000 acres. Very few shooters allowed outside their syndicate guys. Farmer had to ring estate office to get permission to even consider anyone for pest control. As luck would have it I spoke to the estate head gamekeeper at length last week. He took my details for future reference if anything came up.So when the farmer rang to see if he could use my services the estate office knew of me already and said

I would like to run mine at 11.9 mate too. but I know that if I did then a different pellet type or weight would put all the shots over the limit. At 11.9 you are only 2 or 3 fps off the limit, even a lighter or heavier pellet in your tin could put you over. Dont forget the police can check with any pellets they so wish, not just the ones you choose to use. Not trying to be a nuisance mate, just would hate to see anyone fall foul of the law. Its up to you in the end.
-
Just my opinion , but I would get the power dropped on the gun mate. If you get it tested by the police for any reason you WILL be in possession of a section 1 firearm. With all the consequences that go with that.
-
No sweet spot on a HW100 guys. The regulator system gives it consistent shots right through the operating range of 200bar to 90 bar.
-
I have the permission forms ready for signing, already a member of BASC so insurance is sorted.

After what seems like an eternity spent driving, knocking, telephoning I have a chance at getting my first permission A farmer told me his neighbour had a rabbit problem so I got in touch straight away. Spoke to the farmers wife and she took my details and said he would call me back. Anyway outcome is I have to meet at the farm on Friday afternoon to discuss things. Finally life looks a little more promising.

Decided to put my Hw100S .22 over the chrono , as it has been a while since I gave it a check. Filled to 190 bar and using AA Field 5.52 15.9gr I fired off 7 mags, total of 98 shots, for an average of 570fps giving 11.47ftlbs. The shot to shot consistancty was very very good, over the 98 shots lowest was 566fps and highest 573fps. I think I can live with a 7fps variation over the whole string

Come on then...put that gun down and lets see how hard you are !

Hi mate, I tried the FX 16grains in my hw100 I found using the BC from AA fields 0.031 gave a very good match in chairgun to the trajectories I was finding on the range up to 55yds.
-
Not easy I am afraid mate. I have knocked countless doors, sent out endless letters and business cards over the last several months, and still have nowhere to shoot. Seriously thinking of getting rid of the HW100 and taking up knitting
